A player shouldn't be limited in their options, and you are not in UT. HOWEVER, any proper RPG has fail states and such for questlines if you choose options or perform actions that would prevent you from progressing that line. Killing people is the fail state for True ending, simple as.

Here's how I see it.
Postal 2's gimmick is that you have the option to either do your chores in typical Postal fashion, or to be a pacifist. For example, in the chore where you cash your check, you can either wait in line, get the check cashed and the bank gets robbed, or you could rob the bank yourself. However, either way, you have to get that chore done, and either way, you still have the same ending.
I cannot honestly see Deltarune pulling this same gimmick off with two different branching paths without the whole game going meta apeshit and deleting everything, ya know?

The good ending only matters if you at all care about the monsters which if you did you probably would want to get a run where you didn't kill any anyway. Your character still gets to go free on the neutral routes and the monsters stay trapped in the underground so if you think they're violent aggressors that would be a good end.
You literally can't get the genocide ending unless you actively go out of your way to kill every monster in every area. At that point the game IS justified in calling you a sicko if you do that. Outside of that the consequences you suffer from killing shit are minimal and boil down to personal differences in morality. For what it's worth the neutral ending is generally positive even if you killed every enemy but one.
You're also outright taught that most things can be reasoned with so it isn't even "bro I didn't know what I was doing" because doing so means you outright didn't give the baseline amount of attention to the game's introduction.

Yes if you run back in forth in an area for 10 minutes solely so you get off from killing monsters and do that 6 times and kill every boss some of which are outwardly portrayed as sympathetic characters yeah you're not all there. There's even a point where you're given a choice to kill the stupid Dino kid who's name I forgot and so long as you don't you get neutral. The game is attempting to assess the morality of the player character not of the actual player. There's no overt third wall breaking messaging like Spec Ops to suggest this a critique of the player or the medium of rpgs itself. Saving and reloading is a mechanic within the universe not something that's inherently attributed to higher being (ie: the person actually playing the game) which is suggested by the fact that other NPCs can have the ability.

I don't get it do you guys skip the text, the neutral and genocide ending sequences are both very good in their own ways too, so I don't see the issue. Replaying the game once to see the good ending is a very small time commitment and lots of the dialogue has branching jokes so replaying isn't even that boring so long as you enjoyed the writing (which is very hit or miss)

Its hard to explain how much this game means to me, and how great it made me feel, the game made me feel like I was home, and I meant something, and toriel cared about me and all the good characters did too, it made me cry so hard, its just an amazing game, I don't understand how code and sprites could do this to me, its just a game, but it feels way more than just that, it really had an impact on me. And im so thankful for having a chance to play it. Thank you toby for all the great memories I had with this game. You really changed me into a better person, and made me not take life for granted, and life is just a journey, and i'm determined to accomplish great things before I die now. For once I have meaning.

My main gripe with Undertale is that it's message is a twisted one of no redemption, which is hypocritical within it's own narrative.
If you cause a character's death and load back to correct that mistake, the game repeatedly taunts you for it, with no real choice beyond that. Sure, you shouldn't be praised for making such a fatal mistake in the first place, but recognized as someone who with good intent, not a psychopath like flowey.
It's weird that that in a game whose final boss is all about forgiving several edgelords, you cant be, meanwhile in the ""Good""" ending, a warcrime scientist doesnt even need to apologize for performing horrific experiments on the dead and making a camp murder robot.
