I see this game getting consistently rated the highest among the other ones in the franchise, and I cannot figure out why.
It has by far the least amount of content (except for the very first one), while not faring particularly better than others in any particular area.
I see no reason to play this when Omega C., Pulse, Pure, and even W3 all have basically the same (or even better) quality of gameplay, but with vastly more content and better graphics.

Omega Collection only has VR going for it, the music selection for it is not that good and the vehicle engine sounds are bad, 2048 and HD had way better sound design.
Wipeout 2097 was the entrypoint into the wipeout series for 90% of brit boys who have been into wipeout since the PSX days

Run Wipeout HD Fury in RPCS3 and Wipeout 2048 in Vita3K (just make sure to use Vulkan instead of OpenGL). You can get 60 fps with both easily (the Vita game needs a simple hex patch).
I only have a 970, I doubt it could emulate a PS3
970 is fine. It's your CPU that counts. If not, you can still try Vita3K, Wipeout 2048 has HD and Fury as DLCs, just make sure to also install the update files for the game.
Go get BallisticNG, people have modded in every single wipeout craft and track into that game already so you can just remake what ever wiepout game you want yourself in it. It even has all three physic systems already built into the game.

The game and the dlcs are dirt cheap even when they're not on sale, and most of the mods are in the workshop but I think you can download most of them int he offical discord channel.

Wipeout Omega Collection is probably the best one overall right now, but It's just a partial remake of Pure and Pulse (both of which I already own), and I don't really care about the 2048 content.
Pacer interested me because it was made by ex-Wipeout developers, but I've heard bad things about its gameplay.
So, right now I'm set for RedOut and RedOut 2, but I'm scared that the gameplay might be too different from Wipeout... isn't there a playable demo for PS5 or Switch?

Depends on what physic style you like, the PS1, PS2 and PSP/PS3/Vita each had their own versions.

They're not entire remakes. Fury has completely new content and HD doesn't even have close to half the content in Pulse and Pure.

Omega collection also has a shittier version of the 2048 engine sounds added to every craft, even HD and Fury ones. Play OG HD and Fury and 2048 for decent sound.

It is smooth and it auto centres. Think of it not unlike a steering wheel and for wipeout it is godly. Only downside is if you play a lot you will destroy your wrists.
You cannot understand what it felt like playing Wipeout on the playstation in the late nineties.
