Not everyone plays online games. With that in mind it's cheaper for them as a no hassle box to play vidya once every blue moon when a new release they care about comes out. Been a PCgay for decades but it's not hard to see the appeal of consoles for people that aren't enthusiasts and only play games casually.

Exclusives but consoles are fricking awful. There was a clear distinction between a PS2, Xbox, Gamecube and PC.
Xbox S/X is just a pre-built PC.
PS5 is all about 3 games none of which I would gravitate towards.
Switch is the best one in that but anyone over 14 looks silly with one and man children rather emulate the games on PC.
PC is the best platform for games but consoles are fine if you just want a plug and play device that requires little time investment on your part.
The series S is particularly fine, one of the better devices in term price performance and accessibility. Microsoft shot themselves in the foot for launching the Series X, it makes the Series S look worse.
Playstation 5 is the worst device. Aggressively anti-consumer with next to nothing to show for it. Not the best graphics, not the most affordable, not the best games, worst pricing but got the best controller.

Consoles are significantly more accessible for the general public. The price, the established fanbases, ease of setup and use, etc...
There are more people with a PC now than before since it has started matching those previous points more and more, but that doesn't mean that everyone is going to ditch the other options all at once. It doesn't matter how many benefits it boasts over console, PC is still more niche and for hobbyists rather than mass audiences. It isn't going to shake that image anytime soon. PC fats constantly shitting on consoles isn't going to help that either.

There is literally no reason for it these days. In the old days, consoles were a way to get gaming on something that was purpose built and less expensive than a general computer which was stupidly expensive, even more so for gaming, and out of date and unable to play stuff released the following year. However, as the time went by, that was eclipsed. There are reasonable arguments for the 6th generation (PS2, Gamecube, XBox, Dreamcast) as maybe the last justified console gen, but more likely by 7th generation (ie X360, PS3, Wii) or definitely by the 8th (XBOne, PS4 etc) consoles have been mostly using PC-style hardware, simply placed in a locked down proprietary software platform.
The Steam Deck is perhaps a great example that the supposed benefits of consoles can be available without it having a console lockdown mindset - even taking perhaps THE most tinker-focused OS and putting it into a custom, portable, gaming focused, unusual combination of hardware, platform they succeeded in making not just a "console" experience but a portable one without locking anything down. Sure, Valve could have gone out of their way to make just run Steam, but even on the official SteamOS they didn't - they gave 2 UI setups and knew that users could install anything they wanted, even if it was another game store's content etc..all without having to sequester it from Steam or reformat the whole thing.
Consoles only exist for platform owners to profit by locking shit down. They COULD and should make games and peripherals for PC OSes including not just Linux or Windows, but Android on the mobile side. Everything else is just an excuse to lock shit down and we don't need any more of that
