I thought Let's Go had amazing art direction for a 3D Pokemon game and made me excited to see how they were going to improve on it for the Switch (only for it to not happen).

Did anyone else feel this way? Or did you think Let's Go looked like garbage? Remember this is visual design, not gameplay.

It looks better than any 3d game made AFTER pokemon battle revolution but that's not a very high bar to beat, though specifically the actual world aesthetics outside of battle definitely look better than any 3d pokemon game to date NormalBlack folk like to posture as playing more games than they actually have + legit gayfreak shills here

the fact that you think battle revolution looks good means your opinion isn't worth taking seriously and you just outed yourself as a braindead nostalgiatard.

So Colosseum and GoD reuse all the N64 models from the Stadium games and bump up the polygon count on them but in exchange there’s a proper story mode with locations to visit and such.
Battle Revolution does the same thing again now including the Pokemon from the GC games but there’s seemingly nothing new aside from the new Pokemon which added less than Colosseum did. Was it really that necessary to rush this game out a year after GoD/have it be near the launch date of the wii?

I don't like LG's artstyle period. Less the execution, the whole thing looks like garbage to me from conception, even the chibi-fied artwork.
SV looks absolutely terrible but it's closer to how I'd like the mainline games to look like. Pokemon finally having textures instead of looking like a world of plastic was a long time coming. It's hard to even praise it, but better late than never I guess.

Especially the chibi-fied artwork. I wanted Skyrim with Pokemon in it, not rock paper scissors with pokemon.

People here were (correctly) insulting LGBT's awful graphics and model reuse before the game even came out; this "LGBT actually looked good" revisionism is a product of every subsequent game somehow looking even worse

Have you seen modern switch games? They look worse than third party 2008 PS3 and run at the same framerate as them

was it really that hard for them to make a DP remake look more like this? it's the minimum i would have settled for.

I absolutely did, and I got what I wanted. Style is faithful to the originals but all the shitty parts (grinding, Hms, stopping to switch pokemon, limited mon variety) are removed through some new feature or another (XP share, the pokemon helping feature, box swapping on the go, Grand Underground).

I always thought Let's Go was complete garbage that did not need to exist. Now I'm here thinking it's the best graphically of the Switch games.

After BDSP i think it looks amazing. but then again, compared to bdsp everything is amazing

Yeah, still the best art style/art direction of any mainline 3D game.
However, i feel that it's a bit too colorful and they didn't fully utilize how expressive everything looks.
Remakes should be closer to what LGPE than to what BDSP is

Yes it looked perfect IMO and they should stick and upgrade this arttyle. Realims dont fit Pokemon.( I DO like new Pokemon textures and effects though)

The graphics were polished well but not all that impressive. Honestly what stood out to me was the character models and how nice they looked. Specifically the girls.

It is. I bought it last month for $35 and I'm actually enjoying it. The presentation is good with nice art direction and consistent graphics and the game has the advantage of having a good map design thanks to the fact of being a remake.
In retrospect, Let's Go is truly the best Pokémon title on the Switch and the only one with the dignity of being its own thing, a remake aimed to newcomers and returning fans.

i liked it. it felt like the proper art style for a pokemon yellow remaster/remake

but the entire game was ruined by how easy it was. there was no challenge whatsoever. it was fisher-price pokemon

There was something tragic about people having decent expectations once "Pokemon for Switch" was confirmed after that whole Pokemon Stars bullcrap. Then the average pokegay's standards got lower and lower.

Then the Ishihara interview after the general disappointment of the LGPE trailer
      >”The new title coming out in the second half of 2019 will be a completely different game [from Pokémon Let’s Go]. It is not an entry game, but a game that we want longtime fans of the Pokémon series to look forward to.”
      >“The game will give a good understanding of what an evolved Pokémon game looks like after it has continued to succeed the traditions of Game Freak.”
      >“We want to make Pokémon fans say ‘this is what I’ve been waiting for’ by delivering a brand-new product packed with gameplay elements and plenty of new Pokémon to encounter.”

I think it looks great for what it is. It has a ton of polish and care put into it and compared to the other Switch titles, it does what it set out to do the best out of them all. BDSP, being a chibi art style also, should have taken inspiration from Let's Go. Nat dex and the plethora of other issues aside, it would have greatly benefited from taking notes from Let's Go even though the art style genre is chibi all the same. That being said, I think where Let's Go's visual design lacks is the Pokemon models. The texturing of the models isn't necessarily bad albeit it ranges from no changes at all to okay, but it's the stickered on eyes and mouths that absolutely ruins it for me.

TLDR; It's better than BDSP and SwSh by a long shot, but I would never settle on this style as the definitive style for Pokemon. It's good for what it is.

The idea of it is hilarious and imagining TPCI seeing the sales for what I assume plateau by the time Sword and Shield were coming out should have been a tiktok.
