I think Redux is harder to be honest. Maybe I know the games too well, but Antila is easy enough on both versions, Tetrakarn + Makarakarn are a little to good in OG, and Shekina is fricking nuts
I though I'd probably just quit after aleph one if I replayed SJ through redux. Aleph is already a stupid difficulty spike that I could barely beat with an underlevelled team because I didn't want to grind out an extra 30 levels
The map changes showing where teleporters go makes it easier by itself. It's one of very few cash-in rereleases I'd say is worth it over the original however.
You still have 20+ levels of bullshit grind for the last boss even after doing the extra stuff they added.
>It's pretty fricking moronic to play the original when redux exists
Can you elaborate on this? I can tell you aren't the smartest but give it your best shot
Redux sucks not only did the ruin the art style of the original they ended up making things way easier messing up the tense atmosphere of the original. And the additional content they added are pretty moronic as well.
Redux ruins the point of the best story on the DS, ruins the balancing of the best RPG gameplay on the DS, makes the UI of probably the prettiest game on the DS uglier... it's a downgrade in everything but strict content.
It's sorely overrated. I genuinely had more fun playing MT2 and the SFC SMT games.
Co-op was a downgrade from Press Turn. Every dungeon in SJ plays out exactly the same (reach roadblock, backtrack to previous area to get item for said roadblock). Just about every boss will wipe your demons but can be solo'd with space marine.
The setting was cool but it can only carry a game so far.
I played Nocturne and it sucked too. When I said it, SMT gays told me to not play Nocturne and play some other SMT. I swear, you guys are like fighting shonen trash fans. >WHAAT you only watched 300 episodes of One Piece and didn't like it? It only gets good around like episode 800 xD
Frick you and your wild goose chases
I mean, kinda unrelated to the thread, was just making a comparison. But I do think it started out okay to pretty good. Once they hit the Grand Line it was too much padding, even in the Manga. If it focused only on telling the story it would be consistenly good I think. Also weird how half of any new characters are just some disproportionate old hags
I dunno if I'm really that mindless about that. Persona is even more popular than any SMT and after trying Nocturne I dumped like 150 hours into 2,3 and 4 combined just to realize I don't like Megatens. Been pondering about giving Nocturne another chance but I have somewhat of a backlog currently
DDS has the most brutal random encounter rate of any MT game and that is fricking saying something
Other games have worse raw rates but they have functional "estoma" (repel) spells.
Just go get rangda and some other reflector and she kills herself on them, it's the difference between grinding 5-10 levels and the 25-30 you need to go toe to toe with her fairly
I hate Megaten discussion on Ganker anywhere, it's just pure shit 100% of time >Whaaaaaaaat you liked this game it's overrated and shit no I will not explain why
Strange Journey is liked for numerous reasons >One of the most solid DRPG entries in the series up there with Soul Hackers >Story that actually changed the setting for once blending sci-fi horror classics into the Megaten formula >Cool art and new designs by Kazuma Kaneko >First DS Megaten to my knowledge, at the time introduced a lot of people to SMT and got first hand experience with mechanics the series does well like demon negotiation
It's not a perfect game but I hate shit eaters like you who make threads like "waaaah I hate things, you lied to me". Actually frick off you c**t or say why you didn't like it, and then course every brain dead Megaten fans replies "play nocturne that games overrated", overrated is not a metric. Both games have merits regardless of how lauded they are, how about try experience games in a vacuum for once instead of caring what random dumbass anons think
People meme about Personagays not playing their series but this issue is honestly more common with SMTgays. Its so fricking obvious most anons in SMT threads don't really play the games or if they do, they drop them super early.
>I hate Megaten discussion on Ganker anywhere, it's just pure shit 100% of time
I sympathise but it's shit everywhere tbh.
I think it was okay up until about 2013-2016. Once Final and Redux came out there was no going back, when the other translations started dropping it got worse too, along with youtube which-

There's a newer wave of people who now get into the series by watching youtubers and regurgitate their opinions. It's pretty dire imo.
I was never a hardcore oldgay with megaten, I started with III like many other Westerners and I played the AG romhacks, learned Japanese (for more reasons than gaming) and was sating my hunger through the early 2010's.
Accessibility has really changed that along with social media. I think it's great ATLUS are doing fine under SEGA and we're not in the persona merchhole like we were under INDEX but good god.
We're at a point where I now see people regurgitating opinions about NINE (which they haven't played and have only watched videos on) and I just let it go.
ATLUS aren't a super interesting developer to follow with huge development personalities like Square or Enix and they're not interesting in the way N1S is so I can live without megaten discussion in my life. Any discussion surrounding ATLUS just boils down to the surface level not my batman shit on the level of FF mainline ranking. Completely vapid.
Does this game have a sudden difficulty spike on the last dungeon or something? I've heard people talk about this game being hard, but I just reached sector E and my party is always just the demons that I most recently fused and I'm trying to get to max analyze level before fusing them into something else. I haven't had to worry about party composition at all.
I'm playing Redux though, so it might just be that alternating the extra dungeon with the main one means I'm technically grinding.
Mainly mem aleph just needs either a very specific counter strat or for you to go grind for a few hours, it's like they just removed another dungeon that would have gotten you to the appropriate level for her. This is the DS game, DNP redux
*And SJ has level based damage formulas (as in for a certain level disparity you do half damage and take double, at a greater disparity you do 1/4 and take 4x, etc) it's very difficult to get around a neat trick is that you can exploit this formula with reflection, since the boss will apply its level multiplier to the damage it does to itself. There are videos of people fusing reflects down to a level 1 demon and mem aleph oneshotting herself on it
Filtered.
>implying a blobber dungeon crawler is a JRPG
>getting filtered by Strange Journey
It's for the best of everyone that you leave and never return.
>dungeon crawler
>blubber
You can't create your own party in sj though, it's a jrpg with first person dungeons like persona 1 or soul hacksrs
Not a dungeon crawler much less a blobber
fatlus isnt the best anything lol
*Sucks your fat anus*
hot
I think Redux fixes the mechanics to be more engaging. It’s also way easier, but not necessarily in a bad way.
I think Redux is harder to be honest. Maybe I know the games too well, but Antila is easy enough on both versions, Tetrakarn + Makarakarn are a little to good in OG, and Shekina is fricking nuts

Mem aleph not aleph one. that's the marathon source port
It's the best SMT, not the best jrpg.

Is this the consensus? I just started the og a few days ago and am enjoying it
It's pretty fricking moronic to play the original when redux exists but it's a mediocre overrated game anyways so it'd whatever.
>It's pretty fricking moronic to play the original when redux exists

redux fricking sucsk

Hell no lol
Redux sucks ass but keep in mind Fatlus tards are just consooming subhumans with no standards
Go back to playing your quick time event slop like ff16. Strange Journey is a good game.

Can you explain why its bad? i didnt play it and i want to read opposite opinion on it.
I want to like smt, but the endless dungeon crawling in textureless 3D hallways get’s old very fast.
People here praise it because it doesn't have them teenage characters and that's it.
Literally a poser game people pretend to like to trick others into suffering as they did.
Devil Survivor is better.
Strange Journey is massively overrated within its series, play SMT Nocturne or SMT IV instead
Frick you and your wild goose chases
one piece is best during the first half though, if you don't like it you just hate fun
I mean, kinda unrelated to the thread, was just making a comparison. But I do think it started out okay to pretty good. Once they hit the Grand Line it was too much padding, even in the Manga. Wan Piss is ugly as sin.
rule 1 of 4chinz: if game popular/good=trigger response "mindless contrarian"
I dunno if I'm really that mindless about that. Persona is even more popular than any SMT and after trying Nocturne I dumped like 150 hours into 2,3 and 4 combined just to realize I don't like Megatens. Been pondering about giving Nocturne another chance but I have somewhat of a backlog currently
"What's the best SMT for a newbie" is a question that will never be answe- it's Digital Devil Saga.
DDS lacks too many core elements.
DDS has the most brutal random encounter rate of any MT game and that is fricking saying something
Other games have worse raw rates but they have functional "estoma" (repel) spells.
What? Nocturne is easily the most overrated in the series if you don't include the Persona games.
nocturne is boring as frick
Nocturne and IV are even more pleb
>use fire on ice for instant win free turns
>Strange Journey is overrated
>play Nocturne instead
It's the other way around moron, they are both great games though
>I thought this was supposed to be the best JRPG?
no, that's mother 3
Lmao
https://glitchwave.com/charts/top/game/all-time/g:jrpg/
That site is filled with moronic pseuds, had to reply to your bait
It's a good game, one of the DS' best RPGs, yes. However it is also aimed at SMT veterans and is bastard hard from the get-go.
OP here. I was wrong, it's pure kino
>supposed to be the best JRPG
>not a PS2 era Atlus title
Video game confession: I did not beat the final boss of strange journey on ds. I just quit and watched the ending on YouTube
The final boss ruined the game for me. I fricking hate this game. All that just to hit a brick wall at the end
world's most intelligent fatlus fan
Just go get rangda and some other reflector and she kills herself on them, it's the difference between grinding 5-10 levels and the 25-30 you need to go toe to toe with her fairly
I'm trans by the way.
Play Shin Megami Tensei with your friends and make up your own story.
>Play Shin Megami Tensei
>with your friends
Haha yes, your alignment differs from I..
sounds gay
>smt
>friends
🙁
Shut the frick up Dagda, even your mother hates you

Gay and bait.
