There's quite literally nothing you miss out on if you 100% a 2D Mario. They're not exactly known for hidden areas and easter eggs that aren't hiding something like a star coin.

Mario's great and all but it's also gonna be like 20 hours at best and that's going for 100%. 6-8 hours just to beat Bowser and see the credits.
I took two weeks off for TOTK and got a hundred hours out of that.
Anyway hope you got some other interesting things to do on your vacation.
