the lighting is absolute garbage by today's standards.

      Anonymous

With some enb and various lighting mods like Climates of Tamriel it looks pretty decent imo. Especially when you compare it to modern Ubisoft Assassin's Creed games. The fact that Cyberpunk 2077 is still probably the hallmark of "next gen" graphics and game still has playdough looking models at certain intervals on top of being a 3 year old game at this point, I am honestly not that too picky on graphics anymore. After all BG3, this years GOTY wasnt that impressive graphics wise either.
Currently Skyrim's biggest issue for me is the really dated animations, especially when you compare the foliage with FO4 or Witcher 3. The trees practically just static models.

      Anonymous

      >but allt of the better ones seem to have conflict with FNIS
you need to use nemesis. Lots of dodge mods have behavior records that conflict with those of other mods. Nemesis is designed to patch these to work together. FNIS is not, it's zerosum. One behavior record from one mod wins out and all the others break.

i have nemesis, but its not detecting the majority of my mods, i probably have it in the wrong place or something i was happy with Vortex just doing most the installing and load order for me

If you're using it through MO2, you have to run it through MO2 as well so it can detect the mods in the vfs

          Anonymous

if you use Vortex or MO2 you have to run Nemesis through Vortex or MO2 since those use a virtual filesystem, it's not gonna detect your installed files unless the VFS is mounted and the program is run in that enviroment

Yeah it looks good enough when you mod it, but it's held back by awful rendering distance so the grass pops up in the distance quite noticably even if you have a perfect lod set-up. it just doesn't extend far enough away at the engine leel so you'll always have patches of no grass in the distance. Just look at OP's image (although it can be modded to be better than that at least)

No, when i say modded i obviously include dyndolod. It makes a world of difference and it's a godsend and fantastic piece of work, but there's still a limit to how much it can do. Stand on a mountain/high place and look down on the world and it will still look jarringly nbad even with the best lod's. And skyrim is a place where such a view happens a lot

There's only so much that could be done once we hit 3D. Yeah there's higher resolutions and improved lighting, but there aren't many ways you can do much more than that. There's also the fact so many developers use the same game engines, and making your own isn't quite what it used to be. It's nothing like the 90's and early 00's where so much technological development was happening all at once across the industry, that can never happen again.

    >b-but muh combat/skills/quest overhaul mod
Doesn't matter. It's a bunch of different individuals with varying opinions on how something should be made clashing different design philosophies together. It's not coherent like an actually well-made game. That doesn't mean that the mods themselves aren't impressive, because in a lot of cases they are, but there's only so much you can do to fix a game.

      >Are the combat mods worth installing?
the dark souls combat mods are incredibly impressive for what they are, and generally present with a decent level of polish and consistency that you wouldn't really expect from a fan mod. It's not on par with dark souls, it's obviously a little bit more janky, but it's not the total jankfest you're probably expecting.
There's also some guy working on a really promising KCD combat mod if you have dark souls derangement syndrome.
