I've played A Hat in Time and all of it's DLC's and that was a year ago. I've also played Yooka Laylee, Spark the Electric Jester 2 and 3, and psychonauts 2.

It has very good art direction on the environments.
Phantasy Reverie took the exact same wii assets but just removed all the shadows and broke all the textures, the normal mapping, reflections, particles and all the cool effects.
I've played Klonoa 1 and 2 multiple times and I love the games to death. 1 much more than 2 but still. I'm fatigued of 2D platformers and I need more d e p t h
Some other games i came across while just randomly searching: Here Comes Niko!, Hell Pie, Spongebob Squarepants: the cosmic shake, Tinykin, PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC,Frogun, Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara.
While i haven't played all of those, i would recommend Voodoo Vince: Remastered.

That's because no one wants to make a genre that is fricking repetitively boring. Do you realize why it all ended at the end of the PS2 generation? because nearly every company in the AAA industry did everything that could be done. There's nothing to do with this anymore, that's why all you will continue to find is shitty indie knock offs. People sing the praises of games like A Hat in Time but even that is still just retreading old ground.

I wouldn't say anything stood out about the artstyle, but if you're into these sorts of games you might enjoy it. I'd definitely give it a shot if you don't have much to play these days.

they're not very good, the resolution is fricked, no graphics options and they initialise in fullscreen.

To be honest I'm surprised collectathon platformers aren't huge right now. In the age of TikTok zoomers need a quick high from seeing numbers move up in a bright colorful cartoon world. Wasting time in an open world sandbox learning weird building mechanics is the last thing I think would be popular right now.

You're gating yourself pretty hard then. The industry moved beyond this decadent genre for a reason, the only company who still entertains it is Nintendo. So if you have nothing to play then it's your own fault. Just play what was released in the late 90s and early 2000s and then move onto another genre.

3D platformers already peaked ages ago with all the classic Tomb Raider games. Collectathons are LITERAL mobile tier gameplay loops, and never ever use 3D as anything more than a glorified flat plane to do arbitrary jumping tricks, with zero complex level design that actually takes into account your full moveset to be used in developed and challenging ways.
Aslong as this remains the case. 3D platformers will be largely redundant, uninspired, and shallow. But you can continue eating up the churned out slop that will come out. That's rhe point of the videogames industry after all. To consume without thought, and to seek what is familiar and recognizable, over what is unique, challenging, not handholdy, and involved.

Anyone play Hell pie? Reminded me of Psychonauts a little bit in the visuals, at least a few of the levels in that game.
Yeah, it's pretty damn good. One of my favorite 3D platformers. Usually when people recommend 3D platformers on Steam it's always hat in time or some unheard-of indie shovelware, but Hell Pie is a game I can stand by. Glad I found it through the Steam Next Fest.

All of the 2D stuff is generally much higher quality, i had a hard time even suggesting some of these games in this thread because 3D platformers are the biggest gambles in gameplay. The depth is just not there. Like 90% of all of these indie games in the 3D space all have floaty controls.
All I fricking want, is a Mario 64-tier game, with PoP: Sands of Time's rewind mechanic to allow some frick-up leniency.
