a high bank roll if you're buying a non-Jap Saturn. US Saturn games can retail for over $500 in the today's collector market.

Treasure made some of the best Saturn titles

    Buy Satiator

Plugs into back expansion slot. It has an SD Card reader. Buy 200 gb SD card (they're cheap now) and load every saturn game you would ever want to play onto it. Put SD card into Satiator.

Get 3D Nights Controller. Enjoy having access to the entire library. Saturn has a treasure trove of great games waiting for you to discover.

would I still need a RAM cart with the Satiator?

For the few games that need it, yes.

no, only arcade ports use it, which you can play in MAME with better sound/graphics/no slowdown etc.

what you need is a backup cart for save games because the battery memory is useless.

        frick the satiator lol
get a fenrir instead, costs half, does the same, has better compatibility, doesn't randomly refuse to work if you insert the cart at the wrong angle.

An ODE is essential in 2024. The games are expensive (even Japanese ones) and the rate of disc rot is just way too high. Get a Satiator.

Looks like a cute Halloween game.
But given that Ed Annunziata was behind it, why didn't they just make a new Ecco the Dolphin?

FRAM mod to replace the internal SRAM chip for save data. Pretty nice since the regular SRAM chip will get erased whenever the internal battery dies. It's really cheap and is easy to install if you know how to remove and replace soldered ICs.
With an FRAM chip installed, the system clock will reset when the battery dies but all save data and settings will be intact.
Otherwise you should use a backup cart to avoid surprise data loss.

FRAM is pointless, just use a backup cart, same thing but cheaper, no soldering, 20x the space for saving.

I got a Satiator. Its pricy but works perfectly. Backup save cart and a 3d controller. Twin sticks if you wanna play Virtua On. Mission Stick if you wanna play Space Harrier or Night Striker. Arcade stick if thats your jam.

Essential games in my opinion are:
    >Sega Rally, Daytona, Touring Car
    >Powerslave, Duke Nukem, Quake
    >Galactic Attack 1&2
    >Darius 2 & Gaiden
    >1942/43
    >Panzer Dragoon 1,2,3
    >Dragonforce 1,2
    >All the Sega Ages and Night Striker
    >Virtua On, Gungriffon 1&2
    >Virtua Cop 1&2, House of the Dead
    >Die Hard Arcade
    >Dungeons and Dragons 1 & 2
    >Radiant Silvergun
    >Shining Force 3, all other Shining games
    >Tomb Raider/ Castlevania/Croc/Wipeout/Megaman and all the other great ps1 crossplatform games ok here or on ps1.
    >Nights, Burning Rangers, Sonic R and Sonic Jam
    >Steep Slope Sliders
    >All the other Shmups, find a list lol
    >Virtua Fighter, Last Bronx, Megamix
    >Capcom Fighters
    >Elevator Action, Metal Slug
    >Astal, Clockwork Knight, Shinobi, Psychic killer Toromaru
    >Stellar Assault, Bulk Slash
    >Bomberman games
    >Grandia

Get the Rings menu for the Satiator, it makes per-game saves by making auto backups your sram whenever you load a game onto your sd card. It’s neat.

    Saturn doesn't exist. Meme console.

This is kinda true. It's a console that manifested itself in this reality by mysterious means. The definition of "exist" in this case is relative.
