More good games than I have time to finish in the end, so not gonna take stress over stuff. If I see an interesting new game, I'll look into it. If it isn't fun, I'll go back to (re)playing old games.

Yeah, a lot of people don't know that eco-terror was a big deal back in the 90s. Avalanche isn't very far off from EarthFirst or other similar groups that were around at the time. Is this why they're b***hing about Barret and trying to get him changed? Calling him comedic relief and a token black guy when... Barret is one of the best written black characters I've experienced in a long time with Remake/Rebirth. Last one I remember being written so excellently was Lee from Telltale's TWD. To this day I still love Lee and his final charge.

You don't get to say someone can't act certain way or have a certain hairdo just because of their ethnicity.

It'd be pretty ignorant and even offensive of the devs of FF7 to make an Ainu character and have him behave and dress like a Mr. T caricature. Ainu have been traditionally looked down upon by the Yamato population so I guess you couldn't put it past them. But really it makes no sense if they wanted to give people any clue he was Ainu.

The NPCs in the new games are anime NPCs, shitty voices, lines and all. Shit was jarring ,especially when it came to NPCs in the slums.

He also said the previous movie, Tomorrow Never Dies, was also reflecting the real world with the villain's plot, and we're certainly seeing the truth of that in current year.

It's called the euphemism treadmill. Any term used to refer to something negative or undesirable will inevitably become an insult. Although using something more verbose/less fun to say does seem to slow the process down, as evidenced by "intellectually disabled" holding up substantially better than "moron" and "autistic". Although the true winning move is to just not care. b***h, wiener, and ass are all still used in their original meanings by people who deal with those animals.

This is pretty much what happened with “Black” and “African American.” Both started out as PC terms for black, but became negative over time since it’s not the word but the character of the people behind that word that defines it.

          Anonymous

They became 'negative' because every explanation for black behavior is negative. Non-whites hate being classified because it shows in no uncertain terms how subhuman they are compared to us.

The concept of purely escapist media that isn't based on anything in the real world or doesn't have some kind of message is a pipe dream unless it's something purely action based like DOOM. Almost every author or director is letting real life bullshit whether it's some unresolved trauma or politics or some long held belief influence their creative process because that's how people feel the need to say or express anything at all. The problem is if the political shit is boring or not or how well it fits into the main plot.

Spiderman's politics are incredibly boring and lame and the messages are something anyone that would agree with it already does and anyone that disagrees won't be convinced. They're also shoehorned into irrelevant sidequests and feel like guided tours separated from the main narrative. Even if you agree with the politics it feels like pandering. FF7's environmental politics make the game's setting more interesting and it's woven into the main narrative so that the uninformed don't even notice.

    FF7 is about death
The planet is dying because shinra is sucking it up
The economy is dying because resources are drying up
People lives are fricked up because shinra used them as wageslaves
    Peoples mental health is dying
The only thing left for those who are not top dogs in shinra is just hedonist life like going to wall market or gold saucer
    People dreams are killed (Cid)
    Aerith dies

We're only 2/3 of the way done, this may be me being optimistic but I'm thinking the final ending is going to lean more towards something depressing, they're just building us up in Rebirth in order to tear us down later. It will probably come down to a choice of whose lives are worth more, then making that choice. I expect the 3rd game's ending to be bittersweet.

I liked how Bugenhagen was blackpilled and flat out said nothing the party could do really mattered in the long run. The Planet was close to the end of its natural lifespan anyway and stopping Shinra and even Sephiroth wouldn't do much to postpone it.

so many people in this thread don't get that the OP is satire. he knows that FF7 is political, that's his point.

i'm staggered at how moronic you all are.

FF7 isn't 'full of forced politics' politcal and no amount of cope on your part is going to change that
Anybody with half a brain can tell the difference, so what's your excuse?

I hope that anon doesn't have a massive brain tumor like you suggest, but you're right, there has to be some medical explanation for stupidity of that degree
