I tried Ys origin and was so fricking bored. I don't know how people can play ARPGs or say with a straight face that mind numbing gameplay is better than turn based. I'd rather just play a fricking Megaman game, that type of gameplay is just what ARPGs want to be but better in every way.

Probably best they get filtered by Sky. If they don't get Sky then they're not going to enjoy the series in general.
I played through the whole series and the only place where I considered dropping the series was at the ending of Cold Steel 1.
This, Sky is a Litmus Test for the rest of the series. If you pass you'll enjoy it, if you skip them then you're doomed to wasting your time and dropping it because it wasn't for you.

The filler and fluff is the best part, the main plot of these games suck shit.
Here's a tip - don't talk to NPC's. You can get through those games in about 1/3 of the time if you just don't talk to NPC's.
The localizers added about 140 times more text than was necessary to all the dialogue, so if you just skip the useless npc crap you're golden. It's all nonsense anyway, they just jabber on about how the magic doodads power their streetlights and shit - just fricking rubbish.

I beat that game in like 36 hours which is perfectly reasonable for a jrpg
