You post AI generated softcore on Ganker and talk about "flopslop", whatever that means. Also you're presumably 1 person trying to make an MMO. You won't make it past a week of development.

Does it *have* to be an MMORPG?

      Anonymous

yes. it would be like GTA online, where players roleplay their characters. i guess that's just MMO (massively multiplayer online) and RPG (role playing game).

Even if you win the lottery you can't make an MMO (this has actually been attempted) because you would have to have some knowledge about making games, servers, running a company, and related laws/legal challenges. Funds would be just 1/5th of the project, and you can't build a successful game that people want to play by buying a bunch of soulless mercenaries.
But, you're trolling and/or underage (at least mentally) so the point is moot.

      i know..

RPG simply means "role playing game". GTA is unironically an RPG.

there would be factions in-game but clans and societies would mostly be player organized.

          idk.

            Did you know?
GTA is also a fighting game, because you fight people.
GTA is also a shmup, because you shoot people.
GTA is also a survival game, because you have a health bar

wow, great job at describing a generic setting and thinking about none of the mechanics. You are definitely on the right path for creating the ultimate mmorpg.

leveling wouldn't be grindy. player power would come from magical items and specialized feats.

player death would be permanent in some cases.

      idk.

The mmo brand of excess will undo the feel of your setting I fear.

it would be based on real time. at night vampires can come out and hunt. at day time the hunters try to find vamp nests and dust them.

players would create safe havens that they control.

        Anonymous

Right on but would confing half the player base to spend 50% of the time with their thumbs up their asses would be terrible for player retention.

vampires would play in areas without sunlight during the day. hunters and human players would ideally hide at night but they dont have to if they are feeling brave.

Could be interesting but you didn't tell much about it except vampires
I have two main MMO ideas
One is humans vs a horde of undead, it has permadeath, your character gets raised as an undead when it dies so you have to create a new one level 1. But all the content is accessible from level 1, there is no "leveling" phase before reaching the actual game. Max level is 10 and you gain them by completing your one lorefriendly class quest which is a checklist of things to do to advance to the next stage of your profession.
The second is the ultimate grindslop/chatroom game, everyone is in a few (three) player hubs doing side activities and mini-games or grouping up to clear procedurally generated dungeons. There is no progression cap, you gain stat points and gear with bigger numbers as you play.

pic unrelated I just grabbed some cool pic from google

yes, it will be chatslop mostly, but your character has feats and magic items.

magic items will be available from difficult areas but also from the real money pay-to-win store, muahahaha .

everybody will be beautiful and fashionable unless you got robbed.

pay to win will exist, but any item can be stolen/looted from anybody deceased.

the idea behind pay to win is that a deceased player with deep pockets can almost immediately recover some of their power should they suffer player death.

            Anonymous

Games with that sort of loot system always tend to be niche and lack the appeal you would need for something like an mmorpg. Your best bet would be to find some other game you like that is able to accommodate the features you want and use that to setup a custom server.

              Anonymous

the idea behind this rare and valuable loot system is from Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 when it had the RMAH.

there are people out there with deep pockets who will pay dosh for items.

if my game had a relic weapon, only one in the game per server, that bestowed daylight walking powers among other abilities, all vampire players would covet it.

the idea is to create a highly social, role playing MMO game.

tfw i may be getting roasted by ACTUAL devs for daring to dream about the perfect vampire/hunter MMORPG with highly socialized interaction between players.

        Anonymous

mmorpg players can be surprisingly antisocial, also given that most of your focus is on chat and roleplaying have you considered using byond since that's more accessible to a single person?

          Anonymous

they can be anti-social, but the biggest powers would be vampire clans and vampire hunters, all organized by players.

the hunters will collect mature vampire fangs from deceased players as currency and the vampires can collect hunter skulls for currency, as well as drain their blood.

magic items will exist but be very rare and valuable. the clan leaders and head hunters and their generals may have one or two magic items. you can steal items if you kill them.

players can hide anything they want throughout the world. anybody who knows where to look can loot it.

MMO's require a lot of people and money just to make something mediocre. On your own you stand basically zero chance, I'm not too familiar with GTA online, but my understanding is that is has an active modding community and custom servers. Assuming custom maps are possible, you'd probably be best off working to build your idea as some sort of GTA custom rp server.

i know. a custom modded GTA server with vampires, vampire hunters, crossbows and feats would work lol

MMORPGs will never be good again. It's not even the developer's fault. It's the players. What made MMORPGs good was exploring and discovering things on your own. This encouraged people to experiment, talk to eachother, etc. Now everyone datamines shit so you know where the best items are before you do anything. Players want to know what exactly is in every new patch/xpac before it is out. You are expected to have watched a video guide to bosses you haven't fought yet even if the boss is brand new content only a few days old.

Look at WoW Classic. People don't play it the way it was played in the past. There was no mage boosting xp leveling.

      Anonymous

it wont be like WoW. WoW is a grind and raid simulator.

i mentioned GTA online because people create their character and play it online to roleplay as a drug dealing auto mechanic. thats what i want but with vampire secret societies and hunters.
