I want to play an MMO, but I don't want to spend any money. What MMO lets me do the most shit for free without dangling in front of my face "ah but if you want to do X you need to shell out some cash or buy a sub"? Age doesn't matter, it can be a pre-WoW MMO even, as long as it's not dead.
FFXIV has 200 hours of free gameplay if you like story games
It's 10 bucks on Steam for the base game
Star Wars the Old Republic is a free story game MMO, but the free to play version is a bit handicapped in terms of xp, bag space, money etc
Don’t buy it on Steam. Just download the client for free from the game’s website.
>a bit
I've done all the content, "a bit" is a severe understatement. That game is not worth playing unsubbed.
SWTOR is a great story based MMO if you like that sort of thing. I've clocked hundreds of hours and I can't even remember grouping with others. They even give you an assistant droid to do dungeons with if you don't want to group.
I played Sith Inquisitor and outside the competing with that one sith woman on that one planet it was a complete snorefest. Yet, it was one of the most highly rated storylines in the game. Doesn't fill me with confidence for the others.

Look for the free trial on Steam. But the Steam version kinda sucks, you should just download it from Square's site.
>But the Steam version kinda sucks
Why
Your account gets locked into Steam, you have to start the game up from there every time and you can't buy the expansions from Square's store that has discounts pretty often.
K thanks got the trial on DL now from Square's site
Nevermind it is a fricking nightmare creating an account and getting a one time password. Never seen such a laborious and difficult registration process. Frick it
you dont need to setup the one time password to play xv
lost ark is free and you don't have to pay anything if you have a lot of free time
If you like Star Trek, then STO lets you do literally all content in the game with no restrictions. And it's imo what current post-Nemesis Trek canon should be, not what nuTrek is. However, zen store ships cost money and they tend to powercreep everything that existed before them, but at least once a year you can pick a limited lockbox ship for free from doing the year-long event and some of those ships will carry you forever.
But if you don't like Trek then it won't do much for you.
Warhammer Age of Reckoning is free and pretty good. The devs have done a great job bringing it back.
Google "Return of Reckoning"
Swords of Legends Online. Only cosmetics in cash shop.
come home, white man
I got tired of EVE after a point
>play FFXIV
>make a Femroe
>be universally loved by everyone
>constantly surrounded by boinnys
