I really don't care that they removed one line of dialogue or that there's a rainbow pin visible for half a second in a cutscene, but the game genuinely just isn't as good as FES. Reload doesn't have the same kind of aesthetics and atmosphere that made Persona 3 so memorable.

There are a bunch of small things that Reload does wrong, but I do like some of the changes to the combat as well as being able to interact with party members more frequently.
I would say that FES is the game that people should play first, and that reload functions well as a revisit to P3.
There's plenty of reasons to dislike it without looking to buzzword posts.

Something that immediately stands out to me is that there's a consistent color palette in the top pic. Reds, greys, and blues in the environment, the boss, and the characters. It's very pleasing to the eye and nothing feels out of place. The bottom pic looks like everything was made by different people and all shoved into one scene without any thought or care about how it all looks together.

Turning it into P5 Lite isn’t an improvement, it’s just a dumbing down for people who unwilling to try the tactics menu. AI party members while certainly dated are at least unique and set P3 apart from other games. It’s memorable meanwhile P5 just lets you trample the game with ease.
It's been almost two decades since they dropped AI-only party members, get over it.
Nobody would be complaining about it if they took the time to rebalance the game for party control. But it's pretty much the same enemies as 3, sometimes even easier, except now you have twice the tools at your disposal to deal with them.

FES is my favorite game, I don't think I'm going to like reload as much as FES, but it might be interesting to try if I'm ever in the mood to play Persona 3. Although I would have much preferred a FES port
Just beat the 1st full moon boss, I was able to get to the end of the 1st tower block in one night then never fought again until the boss so I see how much easier the combat is. That and less points needed to advance social links.

FES was terrible when I played it back in the day, but I decided to give the remake a shot. All I can is...wow. I'm stunned. They really pulled it out of the bag to make a great fricking game. Completely redeems the original in every way.

If you already played P3, there's no reason to play the remake beyond nostalgia (and it'll be a bad time when you're constantly comparing old and new). If it's your first time, this is the best way to get into P3 since your brain has probably been conditioned to modern visuals and QoLs that you wouldn't be able to endure from playing an older styled game.
