Did they ever make a mod or something so battle brothers looked less moronic? Can't get into the game because of how bad the troops look.
Graphics aren't everything but a game needs a style at the very least.
No its fricking fugly as sin graphicswise. I get what its *supposed* to be but it looks terrible. It is purposefully bad. Shit is almost shadow empire tier bad. Doesn't fit the rest of the art style at all.

I was interested in BB a while back. Looking at the previews I was like nah. Although the gameplay sounded good, the graphics, as you said, just looked moronic. I guess I'm saying I agree.
The gameplay is great is why it irks me so. I *really* am not a graphics guy but a bad style like that ruins shit. I play jank games almost exclusively so I'm not trying to play graphics snob here kek
I didn't say it didn't "show everything I needed" I said it was ugly as frick and doesn't fit the game and the rest of its art style. And it doesn't actually "show everything" because it shows little fugly chess pieces.
The game world, the art for the game, the places where you do battles, the non combatants, how the game is advertised, every other part of it doesn't fit their moronic chessboard figures.

Wdym how the game is advertised? Literally shows you the gameplay in the trailer.

Thats a painful dishonest way of stating what I said originally and expanded upon more than once. An otherwise ok srpg was fricked over by a horrible art style. Based on all the sperging though I can guess that no one ever fixed the game.

It seems like you were just filtered by the artstyle since it still sold really well. My main complaints about it are the lack of a real endgame and the level scaling.

>filtered
kek sure if it makes you feel better to think so. I guess I was "filtered" by all the time I spent playing games like DF, kenshi, rimworld, etc. with 0 graphical mods too.
Game is ugly despite having the ability to not be. That is bad.

None of those are even similar to BB and Kenshi's graphics suck ass.

I didn't say they were similar. >Kenshi's graphics suck ass
Nah, its ugly but its got a cohesive style and does what it sets out to do. Unlike Battle Brothers.

How does BB not have a cohesive style? Do fricking chess busts trigger you that fricking much?

1 last time: The rest of the game does not match the pawn pieces. The art style is not cohesive. They stand out and look awful. The rest of the game is drawn WAY better and has a cohesive style outside of the pawns. I've now said this multiple different ways more than once.

None of those games prominently feature handdrawn art except Battle Brothers. You might as well complain that KoDP is mainly just maps and sliders

Why would I complain? KODP had a great art style despite its menus. I didn't say any of them were handrawn. I stated (more than once now) that they are janky games with "bad" art that I have 0 problems with.
I love SRPGs and despite that pawnbrothers didn't work for me. Shit isn't complex.

Well then it just seems like you have an aesthetic complaint I can't reasonably argue with since it's your opinion.

Yeah. Its why my original comment in this chain was a general question if anyone had modded the game. I like games like this so me not liking it sucks for me.

The models are unironically way better than the pawns. Everything else was stepped up, but the actual characters on the map got way worse.

Last version is literally the worst. >first version is cartoony but cohesive >second version is more serious but still cartoony enough that the busts look fitting >third version is extremely detailed and so the chubby busts don't fit anymore

I'll take the soldiers from the first cleaned up a bit and the rest of the art from the third, thanks.

Unironically prefer the first one, they just needed to fix them up, not get rid of the legs. What the frick were the devs thinking?
>ummm yeah my statue of david looks great but I think the legs could use some work >nah bro just take them off, trust me, people dont even like legs anyway
You should either go for JA1, original x-com(1994) or JA2.
Also, the original developers of the serieses no longer exist, so don't feel bad about pirating them
>Dead state
Really loved the concept and effort on this game, one of the better post apoc zombie games to ever exist despite its unfinished jank state.
Whichever one is on sale honestly. Gameplay is so similar, if you like one you'll probably like the other. They both come on sale frequently. On steam, I paid less than 11 bucks (lol) for Xcom 2 including all DLC's last December and just over $30 for JA3 a few months ago.
I got it in July with all DLC for like 7. It was like 90% off or something ridiculous. I just now started playing it because I finished Enemy Within. It's really fun and was an absolute steal IMO. >pic related: tfw you successfully raid a black site for the first time, but at a terrible cost
The new XCOMs are riddled with narrative driven bullshit (THING NOW SPAWNS BEHIND YOU OUT OF NOWHERE WOOPS TOO BAD YOU DIDNT PLAN FOR THAT HUH), turn limits out the ass and the action point system being dogshit, I cant understand how people can continue to reccomend this.
JA3. New xcom feels extremely limiting and dry in its tactics. It's like doing math homework.
If you insist on fighting aliens, Gears Tactics is better than Xcom but it doesn't have replayability.
X-COM 2 was a huge disappointment to me. From the pre-release stuff it seemed like it was moving in a good direction but the actual game is the same shit as the first reboot game with some minor upgrades. I can't believe people actually like that garbage. Could never get into Jagged Alliance myself (I would probably agree I was filtered) but JA3 somehow seems to be actually good, which I was not expecting.
Though the better answer is probably to play something older that you can get for free since there's not very many people these days in the industry capable of making a good turn based strategy game.
I don't remember what settings I had for the game I started. I'm over a dozen hours into the game and I don't know how to check if I have the settings I wanted or not.
How do I find this or is it not possible after you've already started a game?
Both are great. you should play them both eventually (war of the chosen is a must if you grab xcom2.)
JA3 have better story/quests even with some choices and overall better core combat gameplay.
Xcom 2 is much better/more satisfying progression outside missions thanks to its r&d/building/leveling up system.
Summary:
JA3 win on pure fire fights gameplay
xcom2 win on feeling of global progress moving from a mission to an other and variety of soldier classes/skills usuable on field.
ja3 wins on story/quests. It is bordering a crpg.
Honestly, I can't choose between them as both excels amazingly in different area .
Just go with your preference for what to play first. You can't go wrong. Just keep in mind both are super brutal in first hours than become fair if you don't frick things up and even easy much later
i recommend JA3 but you might get more out of xcom 2 with mods
If you want good strategy, no one of that.
You should try battle brothers instead.
JA3, XCOM 2 sucks.
Boring game with zero strategy aspect, just randomly generated battles on the same handful of maps.
ok so what do you have to offer?
Did they ever make a mod or something so battle brothers looked less moronic? Can't get into the game because of how bad the troops look.
Graphics aren't everything but a game needs a style at the very least.
Battle Brothers is actually pretty good graphics wise, it's supposed to be like game pieces.
No its fricking fugly as sin graphicswise. I get what its *supposed* to be but it looks terrible. It is purposefully bad. Shit is almost shadow empire tier bad. Doesn't fit the rest of the art style at all.

It shows you pretty much everything you need, it's the same as Rimworld
I didn't say it didn't "show everything I needed" I said it was ugly as frick and doesn't fit the game and the rest of its art style. And it doesn't actually "show everything" because it shows little fugly chess pieces.
How does it not fit the rest of the game's art style? All the units are pretty much done like that.
The game world, the art for the game, the places where you do battles, the non combatants, how the game is advertised, every other part of it doesn't fit their moronic chessboard figures.

JA3 is basically a CRPG
JA3
Open XCOM is fun as well
JA2 and OpenXcom
Old XCOM > Xenonauts > NuXCOM
Dont get Xenonauts 2 though, its so incomplete I feel scammed for having gone for it.
JA3 if it is cheap, otherwise Xcom 2
avoid the shilled open xcom garbage
If you already played vanilla ja2 then ja3
I also recently liked cheesing Dead state(too bad its buggy as hell)

JA3 is easily better
Lol. Boy, this thread got sidetracked. Did you ever decide OP?
yeah i decided to install grindr and suck wiener instead
