The Dark Descent is not scary. Play The Bunker, and then you will be immunized against Frictional's other games which are exclusively walking simulators.
>I also don't understand what's fun about being scared, so I just don't play horror games
Same, I don't watch horror movies either. I think there's something wrong with people who really get off on that stuff, on filling their heads with supremely negative and terrible imagery.
It's the only true horror game I could ever finish without shitting my pants. The only one I finished, one of the few I played, and it was very enjoyable. I was like 16 years old, I think.
But I kinda cheated because I had seen the PewDiePie playthrough before, so I kinda knew what to do and where to go, and what jumpscares to expect until some point. I don't think it's really cheating, I had watched it a while before, the game was still pretty fresh, at least until the end where I went totally not knowing what to expect.
Anyway. It's not the scariest game, there is tension but there aren't any cheap jumpscares or bastard tricks. Dying is the big spook in this game and you don't die quick, and there isn't a big loss in dying. It's not getting scared that you should worry about but the tension when you have to react quick and face your fear because sometimes you have to run past enemies that you very much expect.
Dead Space isn't really scary because you're kinda OP in this game. The basic weapon makes insane damage for example, it's just a bit gross and unsettling.
If you want to build tolerance to spooky games you can start with this one.
I love horror content, it’s literally all I consume these days. I like to drag the dregs of tubi for the sloppiest of the slop. More often than not it’s just breasts and screaming.
The best way is to just jump in, one can only conquer their fears by facing them head-on. Getting through Dark Descent on my own played a big part in hardening me to horror games, and it's definitely an experience worth sticking through. I believe in you, anon.
You have to face it. This is not a meme answer.
You have to face it and you'll realize that the game isn't really that scary, that it's all in your head.
The more you build it up in your mind, the scarier you think it is. If you just play it like any other game, it's pretty tame.
If you approach every corner with intense anticipation of something jumping you, then you'll be stressed out and scared easily. If you just walk around corners like in any non-horror game, you might die here and there, but you'll realize that it's really all just in your own mind.
Yeah it get worse with time. Finished Amnesia at like 16 without breaking a sweat, even played a couple of mods for it. I loved scary games, the few that existed.
Now I just can't. The tension is too much, I just want to chill or have fun with friends.
Last scary game I played is Phasmophobia. The game is great but its only purpose is multiplayer, playing with friends to have a laugh.
I don't want to get scared just to get scared anymore.
Don't worry anon, this game was produced during a time when people near-unanimously believed that the only real way to do survival horror was to make the player character completely unarmed and helpless. People also presupposed that horror was on the verge of being a dead genre, and Amnesia the last chance to save it. Thankfully neither of these fricking things were true, and the game itself is not particularly scary.

The Bunker stops being scary halfway through when you figure out how the monster works albeit
Very true, plus you get the infinite gas, but at least it's scary to start.
>infinite gas
wtf is that
Plus what was the point of the gas mask? never once you get to use it in the game. Same with the lighter pretty much
Just press pause when you're scared and take a break for a few minutes.
Why do you wanna play it, then? I also don't understand what's fun about being scared, so I just don't play horror games
>I also don't understand what's fun about being scared
I'm just trying to feel something.

To unlock costumes.
Im too big of a pussy to play amnesia or kinos like dead space or silent hill.

I would say you wait for your balls to drop but even little kids could get through this
The problem with these games is that you can't fight back.
change the soundtrack

I bought the collection on sale and only played the bit of the first one where you're just walking around the castle and nothing happens. Pretty lame.

Do zoomies really
It was like three bucks and I paid for it entirely with Nintendo e-shop points.
I can tell you all the scary parts so you can mentally prepare yourself for them better, if you like.
I find these games really fricking boring
sign of low iq or adhd, unironically.
Sitting in a corner looking at blurry shadows and waiting for npc pathfinding is not fun.
there isn't much of that in amnesia 1
anyone who doesn't like what you like is low IQ or ADHD
yes

I wish I knew , I was hoping I would stop being so scared after I got older but it got even worse with time
