I want to see Capcom do the OG Resident Evil one more time using the RE engine but every time I replay the 2002 version, it slaps me in the face with how excellent its mechanics are. It distills everything that was great about the fixed camera survival horror of the olden days.

The original RE1 is still the best classic style game in the series. REmake is objectively inferior in everyway outside of graphics, and were it not exclusive to a Nintendo console would not be anywhere near as sucked off.

      >and were it not exclusive to a Nintendo console would not be anywhere near as sucked off.
anon REmake was a complete flop, no one was sucking the game off back then
people realized how good REmake was after GameCube emulation became more accessible + modern ports

He’s sort of right. While not a “flop” REmake and RE0 underperformed when they first came out, leading directly to Capcom soft rebooting the franchise with RE4.

Only here could you find a person who's dedicated their life to hating RE's near perfect remake. Shows up in any thread remotely related just to shit himself in public, like we're supposed to congratulate his unique shitting himself routine.

I can think of a few. Sonic, kingdom hearts, pokemon, smash bros, mother, undertale, fnaf, zelda, final fantasy, mgs, xenosaga/blade, street fighter, persona/smt.

Why didn't Crapcom do R2make/R3make in the same style as 2002 REmake? It would have been a much better product.

tank controls don't meet modern quality standards of a major release. there's too much built in jank you have to accept. The boss battles with nemesis where you're just barely turning enough to keep up? It won't get past qa that's the reality.

Who said it needed to be a modernized AAA blockbuster? It was supposed to be a fan service project for the people that grew up with the original.

considering REmake ended up being worse than the original i doubt it would be different for 2 or 3
there is a reason what that piece of shit flopped and remained stuck on the Shitcube for more than a decade (no counting the lazy Wii port) while good successful games like RE4 were #1 on the demand list for games to e ported to other platforms

2/3 were more action oriented and always felt constircted with RE1 style controls

True, especially 3. That's actually my biggest gripe with 3, I wish it weren't as action based (It just didn't work great with the fixed camera angles and tank controls imo).

I’ve been trying for years to get it through RE autists’ thick skulls that the franchise shifted to action/horror way before RE4. Even RE1 ends in blowing up the final monster with a rocket launcher and escaping in a chopper before the whole place blows.

I agree. It was evident with 3 that it was meant to be more action oriented than the previous entries (way more enemies, new mechanics such as dodging, explosive barrels and wall charges you could shoot, Nemesis constantly engaging you throughout the game). Even with 2 it started to go that direction, but at least it still played relatively similar to 1. However with 2, it's basically impossible to run out of ammo or ink ribbons unlike 1. It definitely pushed combat more, especially due to most enemy encounters being in groups in cramped areas. The shift definitely occurred well before 4.

Some parts of House Beneviento in RE8 kinda reminded me the original RE1 mansion, visually at least. I think this is what an RE engine RE1 might look like.

      I can see that.

Zotova/Thompkins' Jill would be interesting to see in that situation. Characterwise, it'd be cool to see how she gets to where she is in RE3.

The room in the basement of the Beneviento House (where you get the scissors, I think) looks a lot like a piece of RE1 concept art for an unused doll room. So I wouldn't be surprised if they intentionally made it kind of echo the Spencer mansion.
