I wanted to like this. But this game sucks.

I wanted to like this.
But this game sucks.
The map is fricking horrible, and because of the jumping camera angles, it's hard to know what side of the room you're even on. Nothing is labeled on the map, and if you pick up the map item, now you have no way to know what rooms you've been in.

The enemies are ridiculous. The Raptors frick you up and repast constantly. They also take lots of ammo. Running past them isn't as easy as running past zombies.

I recently Marathoned RE1-3+V, and this game was harder and more bullshit than all of them.

The story isn't really that interesting. I'm not surprised Capcom won't remake it.

Time to give RE0 a try

I beat that a few years ago.
Dino Crisis was still more annoying to me. In RE0 you just dump your shit in the lobby, then remember to bring the grappling with you. That addresses 90% of the complaints. Still hate monkeys though.

Get good, dodging is super simple

Dino Crisis is not Resident Evil, running and putting dinos to sleep is your best bet. But if you want ammo, save your plugs for the red boxes (there is actually enough plugs to open pretty much all the boxes in the game though, but they are hidden)

With that said yeah the game is less fun and has a lower skill ceiling due to the gunplay not being as good, but it's still a great game, it achieved the survival elements better than RE which is what the game set out to do

What do you think of Dino Crisis 2? Is it as bad as people say or is worth giving it a shot? I played the hell out of the demo as a kid, but could never convince my parents to buy it. Too violent. You can play it when you're older. Fast forward to 18yo, out of print, can't find it anywhere and eBay didn't exist yet in my country.

dinos have only ever been cool to juvenile paste-eaters

Just admit you don't like video games anymore, dude, and move on. It gets so tiring reading through this board and seeing (You) b***h and moan endlessly. That's lame, that's for virgins, only autists like that, only nerds like that.. we get you hate video games. Kindly frick off to another board.

Dino Crisis 2 was great action game, or at least thats what I thought back then. Dunno how it holds up today, been meaning to try the rebirth PC version this summer.

Not sure if you mean DC1 Rebirth or DC2 Rebirth, but Gemini posted on twitter that DC2 Rebirth is on hold.

CAPCOM was weird during the early 2000s, a lot of their games had PC versions.
              Breath of Fire 4
Every Megaman X game, except for X2
              Megaman Legends 1 and 2
              Resident Evil Survivor

I recall Legends 1/2 and RE Survivor only had either Chinese or South Korean versions, I don't remember which one is which.

And not CAPCOM-related, but a lot of games from the late PSX era also had PC versions, like Jet Moto, Twisted Metal, Croc, Die Hard Trilogy, Fur Fighters, Metal Gear Solid, Mortal Kombat 4 and a few others.

DC1 is a great game with an interesting story you just have to get good at decision making, sometimes you have to kill sometimes it's better to just ignore, use the laser traps, etc.

one of the things I like about DC1 over RE is the multiple endings at the end of the game.

DC2 on the other hand is a masterpiece of action game, sure, it deviates from the slow horror formula of RE/DC1 but it's unique and fast paced. If you can't find a physical copy jut emulate it.

Tip: When playing DC2, master the dodge mechanic, it makes the game even better
(you have to turn it ON in the option menu)

DC2 is a great action game. Especially if you play on Hard (though Normal is recommended for a first play)

However the second half of the game completely drops the cake. They had this great gameplay system and instead the second half of the game is mostly just forced mini games and other gimmicky segments

DC2 makes DC1 feel like a tech demo (which it kinda was). It's also much more action-oriented and fast-paced. Personally I was hoping for something closer to the Resident Evil experience and didn't get that from either game, though 1 was much closer to it.

you're right, they fricked up the map since they don't fricking highlight where you actually need to go.

Well they're no names on the map at all. Just black squares. Don't know what you've been in, what you haven't, and also there's no way to know what section links to what. No arrow that says "outside" or whatever. Its the most useless map I've ever fricking seen.

Silent Hill 1 meanwhile has my favorite map of all time. Just throwing that out there.

Just wait until you need to find the Stabilizer and thewhateverelselizer, and there are two copies of each, but they're like 4 floors apart and the only tip you have is a file and the back of a cardkey.

          Anonymous

That part is actually super simple, and iirc it's skippable since there is another ending path that skips it entirely

            Anonymous

IIRC, there are two copies of each (you only need one), but if you go for one set, you can't go back and do the other way.
One set is already assembled, but you need to fumble around with keycards. The other set needs to be assembled, but it's easier to find the parts (the bad thing is, you'll be traversing a lot of rooms, which means a lot of dinos).

I still like this game, played it on release. Frickers even had anti modchip protection but it got patched within a week. My only gripe about the game is ammo is kinda scarce later on. The key card hunting isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but you can't really kill everything you see because of the scarce ammo and managing the plugs was kinda annoying.

I played DC on playstation 3 again years back when it got released as a classic. I think the game softlocked on me. I was at the end but was never able to complete it, tried every room but nothing. Some scene was supposed to be triggered but never happened. Did this happen to someone else? Still liked ot though, not as good as RE though.

Don't even try to fight the Raptors with your pistol. It doesn't work. The pistol only works on these:
    - to scare the Compsognathus away
    - to fight off the T-Rex when it breaks the window

You only ever fight the Raptors with the pistol when you're behind a laser fence, or you can see the Raptor trying to jump over a normal fence (if you keep firing at it, it won't clear the fence).

Don't try to kill the Raptors even with the shotgun, it's just a waste of ammo. Get some medical supplies and turn them into sleep or poison darts. You can finish most of the game with those darts.

Story was great though. Voice acting was amazing especially for PS1 game, Rick and Gail were cool and the multiple choices provide lots of replayability.

As someone who adores fixed camera angles games (especially Capcom's including RE) and is a fan of all of Mikami's work... I have to agree that Dino Crisis really isn't that great. It's extremely repetitive, lacks identity, and honestly just isn't all that fun to play. Just play 2 and thank me later.
