Combat is better, music is better, the puzzles are better, and some people prefer the edgier tone (I for one look back on the edgy early 00's with nostalgia).
I actually had more problems with SoT on PS2. Two different bugs; one more than halfway through the game that wouldn't let me progress (I think a door didn't open) and the final cutscene froze at the same spot every time which I had to quickly skip when it happened. Never had an issue with WW.
Also, level design. Back then it was cool how everything was interconnected and the places you knew would change when you made progress.
And the time travel gimmick was awesome too. And Dahaka was a fantastic enemy concept. The whole style of the game was really inspiring. Like, no matter how grimdark and desperate things get, you just don't fricking give up but go and do what you have to do.
>music is better
replacing middle eastern themed music with edgy rocky music is the equivalent of putting generic rap or pop songs in every game trailer nowadays
>music is better
replacing middle eastern themed music with edgy rocky music is the equivalent of putting generic rap or pop songs in every game trailer nowadays
The mix of heavy guitars and middle eastern infusion is actually really cool.
Reminds me of shit like Sisters of Mercy.
The setting was very different. Also, there are some little touches of Persian style theme in those rock songs. You can hear it even in the main menu music
AC1 was better than prince of persia and I'll fight you over this in a ring if I have to
AC is an open world slop, which was enough to win over normalgays back then. There was no recipe to make PoP open world, therefore Ubishit assumed it wouldn't sell as good. The open world meme is still strong, it's being pushed to this very day as a selling point. Just look at Starfield, derranged exec still think that saying your game is BIIIIIIIG will make the normalgays drool over the game and buy it.
holy shit this just activated a dormant part of my brain. So that's why I loved this game so much as a kid????? This game might be the reason I'm a coomer.
Sands of time combat is duller than clearing out crusader camps with counters in Assassin's Creed >vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger
Sure combat isn’t the main appeal of Sands, but it still takes up a shit ton of the game’s time. Every encounter has multiple waves of enemies it becomes so tedious. The game would have been better if they completely cut the combat gameplay.
this thread has made me depressed about the current state of games. no western dev, let alone ubislop, could even imagine making a game as good as sands of time again. and sands of time isnt even that fricking good
It was innovative. That was a period of time where a new game was coming out every other month that did something fresh and genre defining.
Now you have 5 types of open world slop with skill trees.
SoT was a mediocre game that people only thought of as good because so little else was released that year. It wasn't even as good as the original PoP that you could unlock in the middle of the game.
Nah, this shit is one of the main examples of the era of mass casualization. Until moronic western devs realized with dark souls success that people may not actually want games handholding them like they're a disabled infant.
This game, in the same way as assasins creed, feels like it plays automatically by just pressing 2 buttons
The problem is the open structure, which made 90% of the game playable with only the special power you got in that specific area instead of having fun with all the different powers at once.
It's edgekino. Had great combat too. Even the writing, as edgy as it was, still had effort put into it. I just remember the sound design being a notch or two underdone.
>Increadible level design with a great mix of exploration, platforming, puzzles, combat, and collectibles >Greatly refined and hyper egressive combat system with tons of unique fun mechanics and fast responsive animations >Fricking amazing badass rock metal soundtrack with harsh vocals and combination of both American and Arabian aesthetics >Fantastic artstyle with a lot of dark gothic European architecture with an atmospheric feel >Tragic tormented protagonist who goes through a deeply personal and existential story arc while learning from his mistakes and growing as a person >Sexy and stylish half naked girls who still manage to kick ass everywhere
Yep. I'm thinking kino
That artstyle and atmosphere screams in need for some deep lore and world-building. A pity the game literally only has 3 characters counting the prince, the rest are just random enemies.
I remember the time when Ganker used to seethe at WW because it was 180 from sands of time, glad that fellow zoomers are setting the score right and giving WW some love, it deserves it. Thoughbeitever SoT is early zoomercore too so I don't really know what drove the flip
this game made me love games in general. i love history and mythology, so the story hooked me immediately. and then parkour, fighting, Dahaka, the dark prince... loved it so much. and then i got the blue screen sometime in the middle of the game, before some boss fight. it made me so sad, not angry, just unbelievably sad as i didn’t know how to fix it. finished it few years later on PS2 tho
>as i didn’t know how to fix it
the trick is to eject the disc just as the game shits itself
hilariously, the request to insert the disc to continue playing overrides the crash
Two Thrones is my favorite Prince of Persia. Its gameplay is the most consistently good without major flaws like SoT’s bad combat or WW’s backtracking. The story is very underrated too.
Combat is better, music is better, the puzzles are better, and some people prefer the edgier tone (I for one look back on the edgy early 00's with nostalgia).
WW was buggy as hell its hard to enjoy the combat or the puzzles. The music in SoT fits the setting. I agree with OP.
Worked on my machine
I actually had more problems with SoT on PS2. Two different bugs; one more than halfway through the game that wouldn't let me progress (I think a door didn't open) and the final cutscene froze at the same spot every time which I had to quickly skip when it happened. Never had an issue with WW.

The level design and backtracking wouldn’t be hated so much if the game just gave you a functional map.
>music is better
replacing middle eastern themed music with edgy rocky music is the equivalent of putting generic rap or pop songs in every game trailer nowadays
yeah, because there's no middle east in WW, crazy huh
There's a lot more to the OST than Godsmack you know. It's a fusion of middle eastern music and "edgy rock music"

The mix of heavy guitars and middle eastern infusion is actually really cool.
Reminds me of shit like Sisters of Mercy.
The setting was very different. Also, there are some little touches of Persian style theme in those rock songs. You can hear it even in the main menu music
HOLY SHIT
It's kino to me especially the music where you're being chased by the dahaka
HOLY SOUL
farah isn't in so it's automatically better
I will never understand why you would ever go from prince of persia to asscreed
what a downgrade but morons will buy whatever garbage anyways
AC1 was better than prince of persia and I'll fight you over this in a ring if I have to
sure lmao, ac1 is literally shit simulator
>better atmosphere
>better setting
>better lore
>better gameplay
shit taste senpai
gameplay
That's where i stop you you literal down syndrome nutjob. not with that shittier combat
wow
how can you be wrong at literally every point you made?
that's impressive
lolno
it was more casual, sure
that's why it was way more popular
To be fair nobody knew at the time that AC would kill PoP.
AC is an open world slop, which was enough to win over normalgays back then. There was no recipe to make PoP open world, therefore Ubishit assumed it wouldn't sell as good. The open world meme is still strong, it's being pushed to this very day as a selling point. the game was designed to be played without the HUD.
replay it without the HUD and actually take in the full experience
>assassins creed is just about the combat
absolute mongoloid
>no counterpoints
ac1 is fricking boring couldn't bare another run
Because it was
Everything is better in it
I stand alone
You really don't know?
holy shit this just activated a dormant part of my brain. So that's why I loved this game so much as a kid????? This game might be the reason I'm a coomer.
don't forget Kaileena sucks his dick in the end cutscene (with an audible slurp sound), i'm sure that shit marked me i played this when i was like 11
?si=uNTd-8Ro68wN7erb&t=617
doesnt she like frick him from behind in that cutscene?
Sands of time combat is duller than clearing out crusader camps with counters in Assassin's Creed
>vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger vault over dagger
later in the game you can't vault over 3/4 of the enemies as they will counter you immediately
My memory is hazy, but I imagine it's some other 2 step flowchart.
This is the WW to SoS comparison thread. Both have roughly the same combat/navigation split, except SoS combat gets mindnumbing real fast.
I don't know why I called sands of time SoS
>it's some other 2 step flowchart.
Yeah. Jump on the wall and do a lunge attack.
you're right, I remember trying that and later in the game have to switch to wall jump attack to do basically the same thing
Sands of Time isn't for combat. The main meat of the game is figuring out what you're suppose to jump and grapple to get through a room.
Sure combat isn’t the main appeal of Sands, but it still takes up a shit ton of the game’s time. Every encounter has multiple waves of enemies it becomes so tedious. The game would have been better if they completely cut the combat gameplay.
This game is the cheddar man to mgrr's modern man.
Horrid level design, cheap bosses
Black person opinion
>enter and exit save area 100 times to switch time that is mandatory to progress
Awesome design
>Needing to backtrack 100 times
Skill issue, unironically.
100%ed, just not enjoyable
>It's okay when Metroid Prime does it
I don’t really like the Metroid series tbqh
DSP-tier opinion
It's better than Two Thrones that's for sure.
WW is great, but the backtracking and the shit you need to do for 100% is aids. Still love it more than SoT.
YOU b***h
I
STAND ALONE
If you didn't play this game back in 2000s while being a teenager, you will never understand.
I played it when I was 8 because my parents were based/didn't give a shit
Better gameplay = better game
simple as
I wouldn't say better but it's on the same level for me.
Combat is a step up for sure though.
Peak edgelord. Didn't it even have a Godsmack song in it?
damn fricking straight it did
godsmack is barely edgier than creed mate, i think you need to recalibrate your edge-dar
breasts
butt
boob
ass
metal music
and the gameplay is upgraded in every sense
because it's the best in the trilogy
but brainlets can't look past the edginess to see the greatness beneath
Worst in the trilogy
Two Thrones is easily the worst. A halfassed game that got butchered halfway through development.
another brainlet filtered
>Need to backtrack for 100%
>Backtracking also has a chance to brick your save file without you knowing about it until the very final part of the game
>Got softlocked before the final boss
No idea how this wasn't a scandal at the time.
happened to me too so I just speedran the game up to that point again
this thread has made me depressed about the current state of games. no western dev, let alone ubislop, could even imagine making a game as good as sands of time again. and sands of time isnt even that fricking good

It's because the Auteur Era of video games is long gone. No Patrice Desilets, no Prince of Persia/AssCreed.
It has better gameplay so it's better.
Sands Of Time had annoying combat.
this Black person scared me as a kid
psst, anon:
Sands of Time was worse in every single regard.
SoT was a mediocre game that people only thought of as good because so little else was released that year. It wasn't even as good as the original PoP that you could unlock in the middle of the game.
INSIDE
best pop coming thru
I like the art and the overall design and the banter between Prince and Elika was great, but it was inferior in every other way to SoT trilogy
Nah, this shit is one of the main examples of the era of mass casualization. Until moronic western devs realized with dark souls success that people may not actually want games handholding them like they're a disabled infant.

filtered because it was too hard for you
sad
Man....remember when ubisoft made amazing games? Miss those times
It's edgekino. Had great combat too. Even the writing, as edgy as it was, still had effort put into it. I just remember the sound design being a notch or two underdone.

Yep. I'm thinking kino
i miss old ubisoft

YOU b***h
Kino time.
I remember the time when Ganker used to seethe at WW because it was 180 from sands of time, glad that fellow zoomers are setting the score right and giving WW some love, it deserves it. Thoughbeitever SoT is early zoomercore too so I don't really know what drove the flip
Zoom zooms are 1996/1997+. Aside perhaps from pokemon generations, nothing before 2008 at the earliest is "zoomercore".
>play it as a kid with my cousin
>didnt collect the swords
>finish the game
>didnt know there were two endings
I agree with you OP, that game is not good, and it could never beat The Sands of Time (OR the original Prince of Persia back in 1989)
this game made me love games in general. i love history and mythology, so the story hooked me immediately. and then parkour, fighting, Dahaka, the dark prince... loved it so much. and then i got the blue screen sometime in the middle of the game, before some boss fight. it made me so sad, not angry, just unbelievably sad as i didn’t know how to fix it. finished it few years later on PS2 tho
>as i didn’t know how to fix it

hilariously, the request to insert the disc to continue playing overrides the crash
Only Zoomers think this. Us real OG gamers knows that you havent beaten Prince of Persia, till you've beaten Prince of Persia 3d
>watching retrospective of entire series
>gets to 3D
>uh this game is shit I didn't play it
FILTERED
>7:55
lol that structure doesn't make any sense
ABSOLUTE KINO
the combat system was a massive improvement.
Controversial opinion here. I love every single PoP game. Arabian kino.
they both have their own strengths
AND they both are better than the third one
I don't? It's got better combat but the setting isn't as charming.
TT is too short but it could have been better.
Two Thrones is my favorite Prince of Persia. Its gameplay is the most consistently good without major flaws like SoT’s bad combat or WW’s backtracking. The story is very underrated too.
>hot babes
>massively improved combat
>better level design
>the prince has actual character development and depth
how can other girls even compete?
