On the hardest difficulty I ended up with only two guns until the very late game, a shotgun for mutants and an AK for humans. I'd just sneak around and pick one at a time, snipers weren't worth because of ammo, but to this day I wish I could import a VSS Vintorez because of how much I loved that gun.
I wish they had went with the "aliens did it" explanation for the Zone of the original book, where aliens basically just stopped by in Earth, dropped some junk from their ships that alters natural laws in the landing sites and then left without even acknowledging humanity.

Enemies are less frequent and don't respawn at some kind of checkpoints and the mutants are more than just a decoration like in FC2. It's more similar to Fallout 3/NV.

It's still a fine rifle, especially 5.45 AKs. But in a pure survival scenario where I can keep plentiful ammunition of whatever I want, I'd still rather take an AR, it keeps shit out better and it's a lot easier to modernise overall (not to mention lighter).
