I wish their was more desert areas in 2D pokemon games like this.
Outside of the 3D games, the only regions that have deserts are Hoenn and Unova. And only Unova has a desert like this. I prefer the red clay canyon type deserts over the beige more sandier deserts.
> I prefer the red clay canyon type deserts over the beige more sandier deserts.
Bone-Dry Dunes enjoyer?
Anyways, we need more Desert towns in general too.
One of my favourite tracks from Mario Kart. It's a shame desert tracks are not popular.
Unless it's from Wii. Or has a Train.
Kalimari desert is a decent track but doesn't have alot going for it aside from the train road crossing.
I do really like dry dry ruins though.
>I wish their was more desert areas in 2D pokemon games like this
>*posts a screenshot of 99% 3D slop*
That's not Kalos Route 13 tho.
I don't know why people say gen 5 is 3D, it literally isn't. Gen 6 was the first 3D game.
Gen 5 had 2D gameplay, but it used a lot of 3D assets in the overworld, that's generally what people refer to. If Gen 5 had 3D player models instead of sprites, it would look very much like a precursor to Gen 6. That said, it's usually used as a bad faith argument, most people mean 2D/3D as gameplay styles when it comes to Pokemon.
Ah so I understand their argument but my point still stands.
2D is an aesthetic when pokemon fans discuss it, it has nothing to do with the literal proportion of 2D and 3D
This. XY is my favorite 2D game.
Where is the 2D in XY? Even the marketing mentioned it's "your first 3D adventure" or something along those lines. Cope.
The point is its a meaningless distinction to make. XY still had a lot of "2D" gameplay elements. On the ground level, it plays more similarly to the games before it than the ones after it. It still has vestigial features like the grid, even if it's disguised by more movement options. So where do you draw the line? Gen 5 has mostly 3D assets in the overworld, but is considered a 2D game. XY has 2D gameplay in the overworld, but is considered a 3D game. If BW is 2D, so is XY, and if XY is 3D, so is BW. The only meaningful difference is trainers/pokemon being represented by sprites vs 3D models. If that's where you want to draw the line, fine I guess.
Just out of curiosity, would you consider BDSP 2D or 3D?
XY and BDSP are fully 3D because the world is created from 3D assets. Gen 4-5 depict world elements that you see and interact with as a clever mix of assets in both 2D and 3D.
> XY and BDSP are fully 3D because the world is created from 3D assets
You mean like OP’s screenshot?
No, that’s Gen 5, which blends 2D and 3D.
The world environments are fully 3D. ONLY the character/monster sprites are 2D.
Therefore they blend 2D and 3D. This isn't hard.
You said:
>XY and BDSP are fully 3D because the world is created from 3D assets
>because the world is created from 3D assets
>the world is created from 3D assets
>the world
This is true for Diamond and Pearl. The world is created from 3D assets. You were not talking about characters. You were talking about the world.
>semanticsgayging
Again, Gen 4-5 depict world elements that you see and interact with as a clever mix of assets in both 2D and 3D. That includes characters and pokemon, which are intractable elements of the world that you see in the same scene at the same time.
Diamond and Pearl is 3D because the world is created from 3D assets, now stop being dishonest.
No, it mixes 2D and 3D elements to create any scene.
The sprites are 2D. Everything else is 3D. It's not a mix to create any scene, it's just the sprites.
>it's not a mix to create any scene, it's just (ingredient in the mix or creating a scene).
Anon Gen 6+ never used sprites rendered in a 3d environment again. They're FULLY 3D games. Gen 4 and 5 are a special case in my eyes, as they obviously try to mix 2d and 3d.
> as they obviously try to mix 2d and 3d
Is that why OP’s screenshot is entirely 3D?
>Gen 4-5 depict world elements that you see and interact with as a clever mix of assets in both 2D and 3D.
Only the sprites are 2D.
Um….yeah? Sprites are 2D drawings
Those are in-universe sprites that represent the Pokemon on an in-universe screen. The actual tangible game elements are still 2D.
Game Freak fully recognizes XY as a 2D game
uh, the box sprites are 2d so despite the fact that the game uses models for nearly everything else it's clearly 2d
> Where is the 2D in XY?
The gameplay.
Holy shit stop being such a moron, Kalos was literally advertised as the first 3D non-sprite-based pokemon game by gamefreak themselves. Why do you need to be such a stuck up dense c**t about the technicalities? The move to 3D was gradual but it was clear that gen 4 and 5 were trying to replicate the aethetics of the 2D games while CY fully embraced the 3D. Just accept this and move on.
agreed, I like this place, one of the more memorable Unova locations. it's a shame there's no real thought put into geography anymore, they just shove a desert into regions like Kalos to check it off a list instead of it making sense. even Unova I felt was like that for the most part, the other desert north of Castelia feels so random. would have been cool to get a region with a proper dry climate, but that era is long gone.
Sinnoh has a desert in the post game
That's also the sandy type of desert, and frankly speaking it's a pretty half assed desert (no hate, I love sinnoh but the post game biomes are pretty shittily executed)
It's bigger and more complex than Hoenn's desert
Yea but Hoenn's is more memorable for it's unique pokemon selection and being where you get the fossil. There's also the desert underpass in emerald.
It has unique selection in Sinnoh as well
I don't remember this route.
it's one of the only Unova routes I do remember.
Snowchads have it harder than you, outside of 3D slop the only region with a proper snow area is Sinnoh
Yeah but ice and snow levels are the same concept really, Kanto, Johto and Hoenn all have ice dungeons and Unova is snowy in the winter.
>ice and snow levels are the same concept really
No, not really. Ice caves are just that, caves. It doesn't have the same nice vibe as a snowy area at all
Yeah true. I also feel like their are different type of deserts. Like Reverse mountain and Desert resort are different types of deserts.
Unova has some nice ass snow areas in twist mountain and Icirrus City/route 8. Admittedly only in the winter, but they're very memorable if you ask me.
Yeah seasons definitely should come back
Quads of truth
Hoenn being the best region ever (aesthetically) like usual.
Out of 5 regions, 3 have desert routes and there's been at least one per game since the first desert route.
I don't know what else you can be asking for since 2D games are not coming back.
pokemon fans pretending to be like sonic fans will never stop being funny
crying about 3D will never work when the gameplay is exactly the fricking same and the games you perpetually wiener suck heavily use 3D anyway.
Not many pokemon fans claim 3D is actually reponsible for the downfall. Most people like 3D spinoffs like ColoXD.
>sonic fans
It's just as stupid, and I don't even consider them Sonic fans if they don't realize nearly every Sonic game has different gameplay regardless of 2D or 3D.
With Pokémon, I would say the games from SM onward have done at least a bit to set them apart from previous games, but it has nothing to do with the graphics.
A lot of people on this board do. It's been the common opinion since XY came out and it never made sense.
>A lot of people on this board do.
Not really, people talk about "the 3D era" as a figure of speech or to define the era itself, not to imply 3D is the problem
Literally no one thinks 3D graphics themselves are what made the games bad, are you seriously that dense? People just feel that, by pure coincidence, the series officially became shit right around the transition to 3D. At most people might speculate that the decision to focus on graphics might've caused them to make sacrafices in other areas for time and resource purposes, but no one says "This pokemon game is bad because it has 3D graphics and that's it"
> Literally no one thinks 3D graphics themselves are what made the games bad
lurk more
The implementation is just ONE of the reasons the era became soulless. Another would be something like butchering the cries of many mons, including making Pikachu say his name, and reducing the baseline shiny odds of the first time, abegginning of cheap battle gimmicks, etc. You don't have to agree with these to understand that people never say "this game is complete shit ONLY because it is 3D".
> The implementation is just ONE of the reasons the era became soulless
Thanks for proving my point that you’re a moron trying too hard to pretend you’re a sonic fan.
>B-BUT LE CRIES! AND LE BATTLE GIMMICKS! AND LE QOL!
I wonder why this where you draw the line and not gems or permanent TMs or shitty sprite animations.
limitless samegay
Why do you guys still argue about this? And we all know it's usually the same few people before some moron goes "hurr all anons one person."
You don't agree on the basic definition of what makes the games 2d or 3d and never will. Shut the frick up already. If you all were as smart as you think you are you'd be able to ignore the trolls and shitposters too.
>the basic definition of what makes the games 2d or 3d and never will
No, in the posts right above yours there is a clear agreement that 95% of what appears on the screen is 3D, with only the few small sprites being 2D. But, assuming they're not dishonest, some people think it is reasonable to use that 5% of 2D to classify the game as 2D.
>assuming they're not dishonest, some people think it is reasonable to use that 5% of 2D to classify the game as 2D.
So
>You don't agree on the basic definition of what makes the games 2d or 3d and never will.
Learn to read.
It is agreed that it's mostly 3D with a little bit of 2D.
The game is mostly battles so it's majorly 2D
Which game? Black and White has 3D battles.
i liked that city's BGM, it reminded me of a taco bell ad
