re4 supported vertex lighting on most stuff, destructible objects had it turned off, the game came out in 2005 not in 1995, vertex lighting is used on all moving objects in re4, including characters that dont glow

Yellow paint and tape is the uncanny valley of game markers. It takes you out of the immersive world because it's a game element but it's not really a standalone game element like the UI or some prompt would be. This might be a hot take, even for Ganker, but this is one of the reasons why I think that "realistic" graphics are bad. It may be the fact that I'm a boomer who was raised with a NES, it may be my autism, I don't care. The more unnecessary garbage you add into the game, the more you are forced to ignore. If you look at games from the PS1 and PS2 era, and even bleeding into the early PS3 era, there is a whole lot of emptiness, but what that does is give importance to the things that are placed.
Think of an old SNES RPG like FF or CT; you walk into a room and there is a line of bookshelves, a table and one barrel. Everything else is tiling so you know not to interact with it; your brain recognizes it as inconsequential and makes everything else important. You WILL interact with the barrel. However, looking at a modern JRPG like octopath traveler, where there are unique models everywhere which, arguably, actively discourage you from paying attention to them by repeatedly being useless if you try to become interested and interact with them.
When you apply that sort of thinking to 3D games like the modern RE titles, you realize the main thing you are actively doing when you play is trying to ignore the visual noise and trying to find what you're meant to interact with and what you're meant to ignore, in the most direct sense.
Unfortunately, with how much money is put into games and how big the industry has gotten, the future I see has the larger companies putting out less "gamey" games which are more like cinematic hollywood films (think recent CoD titles) and the "gaming for fun, not for realism/message" falling onto smaller indie studios. If there isn't some sort of bubble that bursts in the industry, we can simply hope smaller studios gain a solid foothold in the indie sector.

Good post. I'll take it a step further and say I don't think we should be so excited for remakes. I enjoy older games as they are and do not need to see them changed to suit the tastes of "modern audiences" or to appeal to a "wider demographic". If the new devs working on this remake think they can do better than the original game, then they should take those ideas and make a new game instead of riding the coattails of a 15+ year old game. And if Capcom wants more money for the same game just stick to ports. It's not like they don't have a big library they can choose from.
