Pizza Tower is good, it would be great if it weren't for excessive need to appeal to speedrunners. It's hard to enjoy the crazy visuals and jokes when the game demands you to move as fast as possible. The level design mostly supports this movement speed, but it makes so you only need to speed through the level. Warioland 4 had the timer mechanic, but it doesn't force you to go Mach 4 every second, at every problem.

I disagree, the speed is like half the fun. The game's slowest levels like Mort's Farm and Oh Shit are also the least fun.
When the speed works, it is really fun, but when every problem feels like it needs to solved by one solution, it gets old. That said, I'm more about the adventure than the high score, so I can tell the difference between personal preference and genuine quality and PT is a quality game.

There's no need to run before you have to get out of level, even then there's enough time to make mistakes or be slow. Speed only matters for peepee ranks

Sure, but when the game's level design directs you to go fast and going fast is the best strategy, there's no way to avoid going fast. I don't know what it's called but there's a design flaw when you don't feel the need to experiment when you discover the best weapon/strategy early on.

You fundamentally misunderstand the reasoning behind that design flaw and are applying it incorrectly here. Going fast is in many cases the most effective answer to scenarios, but it is not a strategy, it is an end goal. How you get there and maintain said speed through each and every challenge is where the wealth of strategies arise from.

I feel like the whole "you need to go fast" thing is overblown. On your first playthrough you only really need to go fast during pizza time (and WAR).
If you're chasing P ranks then of course it's different, but I have to say it becomes a somewhat different game. And I've never been the one to speedrun games or chase high ranks, but I've thoroughly enjoyed getting the P ranks. It really makes you appreciate the movement and level design of the game. And I really like how all players can develop slightly different routes through levels depending on their playstyle.
But it's a fun game either way. Its sheer presentation and originality makes it worth playing.

The game is very specifically designed around your first run of a level being relatively slow. That's why there's only a timer when you've to escape, after you have an idea of the general layout. That's why there's secrets and multiple paths reliant on paying attention to the background. That's why the combo timer is extremely lenient, refilling after you do nearly everything and lowering (not emptying) if you get hit. That's why every level has a unique gimmick for you to learn to use. That's why you literally cannot die, only run out of time on the way back.

you're right actually, pizza tower is no joke one of the best games i've ever played. i genuinely tried to think of flaws and all i could come up with was nitpicks like not telling you how to unlock the costumes, or always having to run through the tower's floors and to the level doors instead of being able to warp to any floor or level you want
