Probably why they haven't bothered honestly. You could add new mechanics but at the end of the day punch is a very simple game and the wii version perfected it

Nothing wrong with caricatures but it's extremely easy to make memorable designs without leaning into stereotypes. That is not and will never be what would hold back or makes a punchout title.

I hope they don't. Punch out Wii was so definitive and up to date anything will be a downgrade, also Takeda was pretty much the only one that cared and is not in big positions.

I've been wondering how nintendo could make certain new entries. Besides punch out, I would have no idea how they would make a new mario strikers (before battle league was released). These games have honestly such solid gameplay and design it's hard to improve or extend without it being a copy pasta or a direct downgrade. With punch out you could at least have a proper controller in each hand when punching in contrast to the wii remote and nunchuck fricked in eachother. They could maybe bring back Super Punch Out with a new coating, just like they did with the wii

A game being kinda timeless doesn't really mean much to Nintendo (or the 95% of people that don't know about emulators) when they hardly ever re-releases anything past the N64 ever, and you can't carry the virtual console library forward either.
