If Yokai Watch scared Gamefreak into course-correcting for gen 7, then you can bet Palworld will definitely greatly influence gen 10's development. It's selling way better than Yokai Watch ever did and it's already similar enough to Legends Arceus as it is to the point Gamefreak can just adapt things from Palworld without fans batting an eye.

    >It's selling way better than Yokai Watch ever did
I just looked it up and apparently Palworld sold 8 million copies so far. That's impressive. It's more than each individual Yo-Kai Watch game, however Yo-Kai Watch still sold better overall. Yo-Kai Watch 1 sold 2.9 million, Yo-Kai Watch 2 sold 7.3 million, Yo-Kai Watch 3 sold 2.2 million.

I don't think there was an actual source to this claim. It's possible, but journalists jumped to conclusions for headlines. SEGA doesn't always give out the full sales numbers.

        >a copycat shitpost
Maybe those games deserve more credit than you give them.

        >outsell
It kind of didn't, Frontiers isn't the game that made it a massive cultural icon, it's just yet another success in a series of success that consistently sells at least 2 million copies. It's unlikely Palworld would be able to sell that much with each consecutive release.

I'm the only actual Yo-Kai Watch fan here apparently, because the only thing here that could even be argued to be "ripped off" is RotomDex (and largely only in the anime, in the games it and Whisper aren't anything close to alike).
Yo-Kai Watch didn't invent JRPG super moves, Boss Yo-Kai in Blasters aren't even the same fricking CONCEPT as Totems, Yo-Kai Watch isn't focused on dances and barely had any prevalent past the Gera Gera Po (outside of that Just Dance collab they made), Yo-Kai Watch didn't invent QR integration in 3DS games, Yo-Kai Watch didn't invent fricking MINIMAPS (The Yo-Kai Watch one isn't even on the Yo-Kai Pad like Pokemon's is on Rotom Dex), and SM's camera minigame acts nothing like Yo-Kai Watch's spotting just by sheer relevance to their greater games alone.
You people are so goddamn moronic. Leave this fricking series out of your petty shitflinging and go have a nice day while you're at it

I would have agreed with you years ago because these are all surface level similarities, but I think that's the point (nevermind that some of these are stretches, it still illustrates the point). It's not a 1:1 copy, but it's clear Game Freak took some hints and started doing things they weren't doing before. Surface level similarities as if to say "see, we've got that thing too!"

          >barely had any prevalent past the Gera Gera Po
It's not central to the series, but there are several in the anime as openings and endings, and Gera Gera Po isn't even the popular one, Yo-Kai Exercise 1 is.

          Anonymous

          >all very common jrpg stuff
Correct. but the key point is that Gamefreak only started doing these things when another monster catching franchise that just came out did it, and became very popular. Keep in mind that except for mega evolutions, they've pretty much just made no significant gameplay or UI changes: no new concepts for bosses, UI, move types, player companions, nothing. Even camera minigames were exclusive to dream radar, which is a spinoff game. So why suddenly drop every single one of those changes "coincidentally" when another game that did got popular?

I'd argue the anime was another big one. Yokai Watch came out with a comedy-focused anime and blew the frick up. Then when Pokemon gets to Sun and Moon they also did a hard pivot into comedy and abandoned the unbelievably stale shonen formula they'd been working with for over a decade to massive amounts of praise.

It was only divisive to weirdos and purists who liked their 10 years of Team Rocket failing to catch that darn Pikachu while Meowth quips and the local Pokemon get involved in the mischief somehow. Sun and Moon were a huge deal to most people and was actually getting recommended by people who'd long since dropped off of the anime because it had been perpetually spinning its wheels.

EVERYONE involved knows how much an anniversary year brings and how much a launch year generates. Which means they're *not* releasing a new Gen game before 2026.
Never mind the fact they wait two years after a new console launch to launch a pokémon game these days:
          >DS release 2004, DP release 2006
          >3DS release 2011, XY release 2013
          >Switch release 2017, SS release 2019

          This.
          1997 is still millenials.
Unlike most other generation transitions, there's less of a fuzzy space between generations here, because the key feature of zoomers is being mindfricked by nonstop advertising, brainwashing, and media overload, which cropped up all of a sudden.
There is a fuzzy period, but this fuzzy period is defined mostly by access to this stuff, with more unincorporated rural areas getting this later.
But 1997 is still to early for even the earliest zoomers, the very earliest zoomers were born in 1999/2000, with it becoming all encompassing by 2004.

Probably the entirely wrong lessons, like survival mechanics bolted onto games that don't need them. More optimistically, maybe it'll light the fire under them regarding the next Legends game, because Game Freak seems like the kind of company to bin the entire concept as a one-game gimmick.

At BEST, pokemon doing jobs in the background of like, towns and shit will happen.

You dumbasses need to understand that Yo-Kai Watch "scared" GF because it was on it's OWN home console, in the same genre (Monster-Catching JRPG), at the same exact price point, and it sold competitively with with a Pokemon game released in the SAME EXACT YEAR (in Japan).
Palworld is on entirely separate platforms at less than half the price and is an entirely different genre than every mainline game to date. It's hardly competing at all.

Also that it was a multimedia franchise with toys and anime and shit just like Pokemon. Palworld is just a video game, Pikachu plushies alone are probably outselling it. Yokai Watch scared them because it was competing against them in the same entire field.

If Palworld does influence gen 10, then I can see it happening like this:

    >Australia region (all but confirmed with hints)
    >You build and maintain bases, camps, or settlements in the outback
    >Story/gym progress is locked behind levelling them up, using Pokémon outside of your party to complete tasks
    >This encourages catching a frickton of Pokémon of varying types, so it serves two functions
    >Could have resource production, making your own pokeballs, medicine and farming berries
    >Wild Pokémon could raid your base for berries, you would have to come fight them off
    >Munchlax and Skwovet lines could be exclusive to this method

Idk, obviously any kind of survival element would be minimized because it's Pokémon, could be fun, though.

    >Palworld will definitely greatly influence gen 10's development.
here's the difference for you braindead morons
yokai watch actually did it's own thing and made it's ripoff it's own
    palworld is literal shovelware slop

Shovelware slop that is somehow more fun than any mainline pokemon game in the last decade. Cope.

If Palworld does light a fire under GF's ass to actually make a good game then I'd be happy but I doubt it because GF seems incapable of making a good game and are just coasting along through brand power alone.

And don't forget Game Freak is also currently developing a new non-Pokémon game

Why do they keep dividing their small team when they can't even finish their games?

          Money I guess.
Why hire more people and pay them when you can have a skeleton crew work on it and pay the bare minimum?

Pokemon burnout doesn't just affect the fans, it affects the staff too. There's no contest that people in GF are pretty tired of working solely on Pokemon.

Any chance of Digimon copying Palworld?

The main difference is that yokai watch was eating into the market share for merch, which palworld hasn't done yet. If palworld can get multimedia or merch sales to take off, then gamefreak will course correct.
