But the community from Balmung is indistinguishable from any other server on the NA datacenters.

The localizers in XIV are also part of the lore team and precedent set by Koji gives them a lot of sway in the worldbuilding. Koji is a turbo autist who loves worldbuilding so he's responsible for doing huge lore dumps in levequest descriptions and inventing languages for the beast tribes and stuff like that.

Alchemist. ALC and CUL are the best for earning steady money at lv90, but CUL is harder to level because every recipe uses 6 ingredients.

they use all gatherers, but mostly BTN and enemy drops, yeah
BTN and enemy materials (meats, tendons and plants), but yes. ALC crosses over into MIN materials much more often than CUL does, which basically only wants Rock Salt.
You should level one retainer as BTN and one as MIN, then you can use them to farm almost any material for any craft.
alternatively, make them go on quick missions instead and get a random assortment of dungeon gear to desynth into any item in the game

It's worth noting that a big part of the problem regarding the run animation come from a tons of players cranking the height slider to the fricking max, the most blatant and common example are the bullied teenager playing max height male aura.
Granted Square should've thought about that, but it's important to keep in mind that as long as people have a lot of freedom regarding the height of their character, some animations will look fricked up no matter what.

XIV just plays like a really tightly designed Wrath era WoW. You could argue that the higher GCD makes it slower than WoW but jobs get enough oGCDs to offset that IMO.
ffxivs combat is significantly slower than wows and apm doesnt tell the whole story
wow combat is designed to keep you on your toes at all times, most commonly achieved with procs and random swirlies you have to dodge
ffxiv combat on the other hand is way more deliberate, the boss does a tell for a mechanic you have anywhere between 5 and 10 seconds to resolve, you go to the place to resolve the mechanic and then you wait 20+ seconds for the bosses next tell
during those 20 seconds you’re not even interacting with the fight, you’re just sitting there autopiloting your also completely deterministic linear dps rotation
note: im not saying either of these is superior or inferior, I enjoy both for what they are, but ffxivs combat is designed to be significantly slower in regards to consistent brain activity needed
