if you could choose between making the next one piece game a traditional fighter by arcsys or a pixelated retro-inspired JRPG made by the DQ team what would you pick?

I want to explore roguetown while comfy chiptune music plays
I want either World Seeker 2 or PW5, fighting games get boring quickly
Gotta go with dairy queen
Was that supposed to be a hard choice?
>pixelated retro-inspired JRPG made by the DQ team
Sounds about as bad as it possibly could be.
JRPGs are dead
I'd take the 2D fighter. DBFZ was great.
This. I don't want a shitty new story with shitty new OCs. Just give me awesome looking characters in a 2D fighting game you can play forever.
>OP has a plethora of cool characters
>We're gonna get at least 3 Luffy's and 2 Zoro's
Why did it flop despite having so much hype around it?
It didnt have much hype and I don't if it was a flop but it didnt sell a lot cause it's turn based and no one asked for a turn based One Piece game, I do like turn based but the story and revisiting arcs was bullshit
God, the moment I saw the revisiting arcs trailer, all interest in it disappeared. At least the Unlimited series did the idea of just fighting simulacrums of others cause it's a mystery island. Or World Seeker found an excuse to have everybody meet up on the same island (classic OP movie type of setting).
But recycling past arcs just felt so lazy, I couldn't care for how they'd do it. And knowing it'd be a turn-based game, I just had a feeling it wouldn't be as engaging as playing through thge other really good JRPGs.
I bet it's super linear and just constant talk/battle over and over.
I wanted so bad for this to be good. I can't fathom why they made 70% of the game ANOTHER retelling of the anime story. I couldn't even finish it, dropped it midway through Enies Lobby. If they had just focused on the original ideas and made a fun little spinoff adventure with premises that were at least as good as the movies, then it would have been solid.
Also the gameplay itself is not that interesting unfortunately, but I would be able to look past it if they had something else going on to draw me in. But it was just "One Piece: Again" AGAIN
genuinely the most disappointed I've ever been by a game. but maybe i shouldn't have had such high hopes for an anime game.
>why did the quick cashgrab asset flip fail
it's a mystery
Decided to start reading this, it's pretty good so far. I sort of regret not beginning to read it after my one coworker from years back told me I should.
The art style was a big hurdle for me back in the day to start watching and later reading OP. But if you're enjoying it already, then you'll get sucked into OP really fast.
I dunno what initially turned me away, I like the art style because it puts me mind of old fleischer cartoons or something.
They just met ZEHAHA man and rode a giant water geyser up into the sky.
Skypiea arc is one of my favorites (although I remember it had quite a few haters for some reason). You're in for a ride. Well, that can be said about the whole manga, really.
It’s so good. I wish I’d started reading sooner too. How far are you?
I would take the fighting game for sure. I really liked DBFZ and want those guys to also make a killer One Piece fighting game.
First one. I know One Piece has a very RPG vibe, but it's too 1v1-oriented for a JRPG. An Action-RPG where you sometimes have allies when appropriate would be better. But seriously, I think everyone's just waiting for the ArcSys game and would be more surprised if it doesn't happen.
My only worry is that the series has a frickton of characters and ArcSys can't make a frickton of characters. They can make like 12 and maybe 22 more through DLC over the years. But the Straw Hats alone are 10 characters. And then, you know exactly what would happen: "We gotta' get all the plot-relevant/fan favorite characters!" Who will be absolutely fricking boring and basically roster filler, meanwhile actually interesting characters will be wienerblocked because they're only like the 40th or 120th most "important" character.
If it were me, you'd only get in the game by being a post-timeskip character with confirmed Haki. Everyone else can cheer in the background, we need some kind of baseline to cull the roster.
>If it were me, you'd only get in the game by being a post-timeskip character with confirmed Haki. Everyone else can cheer in the background, we need some kind of baseline to cull the roster.
I came to this exact same conclusion when I thought about who should actually be on the roster in that game.
Bro nooo, they gotta add Krieg and random whitebeard mook #12, they are so iconic...
Frick you they have to add krieg
The Live Action didn't even add Krieg kek
It did, but he got jobbed by Mihawk
Krieg is a yonko tier pirate, don't talk shit
He only lost because he faced the strongest swordsman in the world, and drifted in the sea for weeks without food or water, and still almost beat Luffy
you stupid frick do you know what an admiral is
Uh he never lost a battle and has a fist made of Diamond
Sorry that you have to face this hard truth but Krieg is one of the strongest pirates in the series
>has the largest fleet in the series, only rivalled by Kaido and Big Mom
>never lost a battle
>luffy
>mihawk
*never lost a battle against civilians
>Sorry that you have to face this hard truth but Krieg is one of the strongest pirates in the series
Lol no. The reason he even has those bandages is that his ass got kicked in the Grand Line.
>and still almost beat Luffy
lol. lmao even
>Had to be saved by Gin to escape Kriegs Gas
>Had to be saved by b***h ass Sanji
>Didn't even Beat Krieg, Krieg got knocked out By Traitor Gin
Krieg 100% won but Luffy was saved by plot armor
you will never be the new bejitagay
yes they did, they just relegated him to the proper amount of screen time that he deserved
One piece doesn't actually have THAT many characters that are that important, you can cut it down to only key characters in each arc and it would be easy enough to fill
Fighterz has 44 characters with 10 of them being Goku
With more money Arcsys can easily bump that up to 60 or 80 with maybe some issues with Balancing
>One piece doesn't actually have THAT many characters that are that important
I'd rather have Page One than Caesar. This is the problem. The game would be cool if it was the top brass of every major faction, but instead we'll get fricking Koby and Hanwiener.
Give it to SNK. They're the only modern fighting developer who can make a large roster in a relatively short amount of time.
Unless they reuse assets and make the game look as shit as 14, 15 and every other licensed garbage that bandai shits out with the exact same infrastructure problems they wouldn't be able to do shit fast. They don't even have experience making license/anime fighters why would you give it to them?
I'd rather have a new Unlimited Adventure or Pirate Warriors.
I feel those games use the license in the best ways.
I'll go with the former
>if you could choose between making the next one pi
I'd kill myself
Neither. Give me a fully fleshed platform fighter with 50+ characters (at least) or give me nothing at all. It deserves a Smash Bros. clone more than fricking Warner Bros or Nickelodeon
Gigant battle has existed for years anon, grand battle x too. Don't tell me you're a filthy EOP.
32 year old Virgin to one piece here. Im reading it for the first time ever for real after trying several times and the crew just got to the grand line.
I like the general tone and the crew have very fun dynamics. On the other hand:
>villains so far are awful. Krieg was particularly bad. I really didnt give a shit about him
>oda can't choreograph a fight for shit. I spend too much time trying to figure out whats happening in the panels. It really doesnt flow and so far he id not too good at showing the dynamism of battles. I honestly get bored when they fight. Arlong fight was very disappointing. It's like he cant translate well the slapstick and realistic pain the blows to each other cause. Kishimoto was honestly better at that. And toriyama id just uncomparable.
Other than that, usopp, nami and sanji save the show. Luffy is not too entertaining so far.
Fight choreography gets better over time. The villains do, only on account of them having more screen time. The East Blue Saga doesn't have an overarching plot line, it's just Luffy going from island to island recruiting nakama. The primary antagonists of other sagas enter the story earlier.
Is odyssey any good?
Would be cool to see a FighterZ type game - something like pic related in terms of roster. Either that, or genuinely something MMO-like in the OP world. There's so many things you can do with characters (genuine progression with haki, tons of race options with their own bonuses, devil fruits, fighting styles like sword types, gun types, brawler types, other weapon types, etc), boat progression and travel, ship combat, ship roles. Only real issue I can think of with this is the way Devil Fruits and Haki would be distributed - only reasonably and lore-wise makes sense to make them randomised but then it's just a good chance that your character is shit if you get unlucky. Even worse if they make the better hakis/fruits pay to win
>two versions of every strawhat, even fricking nami and brook
as expected of rostergays
on a sidenote, chopper got butchered
I feel like at launch only Luffy or the monster trio warrants having a separate pre time skip moveset, while the rest has alternative costume for pre time skip, their time skip moveset should at the very least be based on Onigashima as a baseline, as for forms I think only Gear 5 should be a separate slot, they could do Boundman, Snakeman or Tankman as supers or transformations, while gear 2 and 3 are part of the moveset, I think this is the ideal way to go about avoind to waste to many slots on alternative version, on a side note if they ever do a fighting game or even another one piece game in general they should honestly just give us more costumes from all over the series, its fricking annoying that they keep reusing the return to Sabaody clothes as a baseline since they are their worst post time skip costumes.
Why not both.
One piece is obviously ideal for any fighting game yet the world is a perfect setting for a classic jrpg.
Anyone remember Nanatsu no Shima, the One Piece JRPG for the GBA?
Neither, I'll take the One Piece Xenoverse with 10 years of DLC and I'll like it.
I miss Robin's bangs so much.
Chopperbros…..
I miss when zoro's eyebrows could move
>this picture is almost 8 years out of date
frick
I played odyssey and it was dogshit ill assume all one piece games are going to be low effort garbage
So much soul in this image. Timeskip was a complete travesty for One Piece.
I'm gay btw.
FighterZ solely because i know that Arcsys can do something good with it. Meanwhile, we just got a Turn-based RPG and it was fricking awful and i don't see why the frick making it retro-inspired would be benefic for the game.
>you'd only get in the game by being a post-timeskip character with confirmed Haki.
I refuse to buy a game where Hody jones has more chance of gettting in than Arloong, frick that.
Here is my roster idea
>Luffy Pre TS(This one is maybe not necessary)
>Luffy Post TS (Onigashima based with Gear 4)
> Gear 5 Luffy
>Zoro Post TS
> Sanji Post TS(Diable Jamble as kinda of a default for a lot of his moves but Ifrit Jambe for stronger moves)
> Ussop Post TS
> Nami Post TS(with Zeus)
> Robin Post TS(with Demonio Fleur)
> Franky Post TS
> Brook Post TS
> Jimbe Post TS
> Law Post TS(with his awakening)
> Kid Post TS(with his awakening)
> Buggy
> Mihawk
> Arlong
> Smoker
> Crocodile
> Bon Clay
> Enel
> Rob Lucci(maybe awakened)
> Kaku(Maybe awakened)
> Moria
> Perona
> Kuma
> Boa Hanwiener
> Kizaru
> Aokiji
> Akainu
> Magellan
> Ivankov
> Marco
> Whitebeard
> Blackbeard
> Shanks
> Caesar
> Bartolomeo
> Cavendish
> Baby 5
> Senor Pink
> Fujitora
> Doflamingo
> Sabo
> Jack
> Carrot
> Inuarashi/Nekomamushi
> Reiju/Ichiji/Niji/Yonji as a team
> Judge
> Katakuri
> Big Mom
> Queen
> King
> Yamato
> Oden
> Kaido
> Ryokugyu
> Garp
> Roger
Keep in mind that if a character has a pre timeskip version then it should have those as alternative costumes
Here are some unlikely choices that are acceptable but shouldn't be a priority
> Kuro
> Don Krieg
> Wapol
> Mr. 5/Miss Valentine
> Mr.3
> Miss Doublefinger
> Mr. 1
> Bellamy
> Wyper
> Foxy
> Jabura
> Kalifa
> Blueno
> Fukuro
> Kumadori
> Ryuuma
> Bege
> Killer
> Apoo
> Drake
> Hawkins
> Hordy/Vander Decken/Caribou (if they really want something from Fishman Island)
> Monet/Vergo
> Diamante
> Pica
> Trebol/Sugar
> Koala
> Don Chinjao/Sai
> Leo
> Kyros/Rebecca
> Oven
> Perospero
> Kin'emon + some other scabbard
> Ulti
> Black Maria
> Page One
> Sasaki
> Who's Who
> Orochi
> Shiki
> Zephyr
> Tesoro
> fUTA
No Ace?
Oh shit, I could swear I placed him, just assume he is in the first list, even with Sabo there is no way he wouldn't be part of the main roster
>almost 100 characters for a 2D fightan
anon, this ain't MUGEN. in the BEST case scenario, the ending roster for a good OP FG would be made of something like 50 picks
The first list is mostly the main ones and even then about 10-15 of then could be moved to the second list in hindsight
>about 10-15 of then could be moved to the second list in hindsight
that is fair, i will keep shilling my own roster in the meantime
Pretty great choices, I do think some of them would likely be replaced by more popular characters like Sabo/Mihawk/Kuma/Carrot/Oden instead of Foxy/Perospero/Paulie/Don Krieg/Ulti
Replace Baby 5, Krieg, Paulie (wtf?) and the twins with Cracker and three of the missing Supernova/Shichibukai.
The fighter just because I'm getting bored of strive. Would main Nami even tho she'd be a puppet character controlling Zeus
neither. I'd rather have a good game that actually captured the adventuring and namaka vibe
Frick playing the straw hats give me an original pirate crew and let me sail the world on my own perogative
Unlimited cruise/adventure sequel. No, world r is not a real sequel.
Here's the premise. It's me alone on an island with Nani and Robin and we just have crazy sex over and over. So what's this about video games now?
>pixelated retro-inspired JRPG made by the DQ team what would you pick?
JRPG all the way. Hell, even the people Luffy faces are all basically JRPG benchmarks.
>Iron Jaw: first real boss fight (pre-DF Alvida is a joke)
>Buggy: first one to use Devil Fruits, and how you need to basically out-think them in addition to raw power
>Krieg: first fight to really fight as a team
>Mihawk, Smoker: the scripted boss fights to show you how weak you really are
>Wapol: get to use Chopper
>Satori: Haki user
>CP5 (first battle): no Devil Fruits, just that powerful
who would you main in a 2D fighter?
