If you had to create a Pokemon fan game that was not just a romhack, what would you do?
Personally I think I would do some sort of mix between a tower defense and mobbage

        Something like
        >The region is a big artificial island
        >Gym leaders are in charge of all districts
        >You're the champion's personal dog
        >Evil team is made up of brainwashed people
        >Your rival is a hothead coworker who wants to receive attention from the champion (a simp)
        >Absolutely unhinged characters across the whole island
        >No new pokemon aside from 3 starters and one legendary
        >No gimmicks
And the whole thing is going to reference a lot of games/anime/movies

It would be stupid as frick but I'd combine a semi-open world with Pokken. So you would load into areas along with tons of pokemon and content, and the gym and trainer battles would be you directly controlling your pokemon in an actual fight. That way your moves, stats, and training would effectivley customize your pokemon to fight and play the way you want them to. Different stages would effect pokemon, weather would effect them, and so on.
Either that or the same concept with Mystery Dungeon.

Pokemon but cooking mama. You can go out in this neat open environment to catch pokemon for the purpose of cooking and eating them. There's cooking mini games, challenges like hosting a dinner party for the Elite 4, or a cook off with established chef characters like Siebold, Mallow, and Arven or whatever. Then there's this free experimenting mode where you can cook up whatever you want with your ingredients to come up with all sorts of shit. Maybe you could open up a shop and the higher your level the more customers and perks you can get for your eatery. You can choose a pokemon companion that's not for eating, they help you catch the pokemon. Yeah it seems kinda morbid but people eat Slowpoke tails and stuff in-universe so why not?

You and I want the same thing. I've tossed around that same idea alot, with cooking styles and special harvest balls that turn pokemon directly into ingredients.

      A Monster Hunter rip off.

Imagine making a sword with Aegislash and a shield made out of a Cloyster.
      Chansey coat for special defense.
      Groudon armor for defense.
      Toxapex hat.
Insect Glaive made out of Yanmega.
An actual Skitty helping you with support moves.

There just to much potential, and even more if we combine MH mechanics with type-based gameplay.

I have just the artist for you.

Not bad tbh. I like the Shedinja reference. But personally, I would make a pokemon monster hunter game with stylized designs (a balance between "cartoony" and MH's aesthetics), so I wouldnt go for this kinda realistic artstyle

That sounds fricking adorable and I would love to cook with

      >catch pokemon for the purpose of cooking and eating them
WHAT THE FRICK NO absolutely NO Jesus Christ. I was thinking Great British Bake Off vibes not a disgusting carnism fantasy. Pokémon is for COZY. I want to WITH Pokémon not eat them that’s gross. I want Pokémon to be presenters and co-chefs and judges and stand-ins for cooking appliances. I want Pokémon themed foods. I want to explore the word’s cuisine through Pokémon. a cute game for everyone not fricking eating my pets. The hell is wrong with you?

Heh. Well, I don't see pokemon as cute cuddly pets. And if they're gonna retcon real life animals coexisting alongside pokemon (i'm looking at you, indian elephants) this is the unspoken reality of the pokemon world. Real life chickens are cute and make great pets. But they also taste delicious fried crispy between two buns lightly coated with spicy mayo. Your idea is nice too. It's definitely closer to cooking mama for those people who are into that kind of thing.

A Pokemon game where the protagonist wakes up to find themselves in the middle of a colossal tree jutting up from the fog. There are other trees in the distance, and they're not alone here in the tree, a few other people woke up here too. The great tree is home to many Pokemon, but both the higher you climb and the deeper you descend into the tree the more vicious the Pokemon become, so the center of the tree is where the weakest Pokemon reside. The heroes then have to band together and find a way home. Descend to the roots, or ascend to the canopy?

A regular pokemon adventure but in a 3D world with action combat where you control your pokemon. Basically the anime but as a video game, what I always expected Pokémon to become.
If I have to consider a fan game budget then I don't know, I have tons of game ideas but none about Pokémon. All I want is a good adventure.

Assuming I'm able to make anything? I'd make a Pokemon Snap spiritual successor where you walk around a 3d world and try to sneak up on Pokemon, learning their behavior patterns and tendencies so that you can get the best possible photos of them doing what they do, and putting a big emphasis on teaching kids how cameras work through gameplay so that they can go out and start taking nature photos in the real world.

Assuming I'm just the random butthole I am today? idk a simple text adventure game probably

A Princess Maker rip-off type of game. You're gifted by Arceus or Giratina or whoever a Pokemon Egg, in which an Eevee hatches. There's a certain point where Eevee evolves, depending on its current stats. I think it'd be also funny if there was some secret way to prevent it from evolving, leading to some special endings. There are a bunch of endings by evolution, depending on stats and reputations, such like being good at fighting or having won contests. Yes, there'd be an ending where you marry your Eevee, probably a Sylveon locked ending.

If not, then a dating sim.

Ok, hear me out: a pokémon immersive sim, you start with an already established PC that you can customize appearance wise and have a prologue similar to this scene: https://youtu.be/OttP0sK4Glc?si=Obk9ny4KPMwJIaqU&t=320

A first person segement that fully immerses you into the world of pokémon at th same time it shows that this is is a breathing, living world with real people and not just static NPCs.

Once you're done with the prologue, you properly star your journey but with the caveat that there are multiple ways to get to one city or town to another, some more covenient than others from forest shorcuts to player made pathways like dug tunnels or breakable hidden walls.

Storywise, a lot of focus could be put on which people you interact with or how did you adressed different situations, maybe having a pokemon of a certain type to solve something as in a leak in a power plant or a water type to solve a local drought in a isolated town. Then have the player either rewarded or punished with unique items or follow-up quest upon completing certain objectives or even bringing secret objects to a place triggers special character interactions.

Tl:dr Gamefreak should make a pokemon immerisive sim on the vein of Deus Ex and the likes.

Basically make the edgy thread's dream game. SMT style.
(you) fight with pokemon, but pokemon are treated like the demons (he is useful, so I'll use him for a while). SMT 1/2 mechanics here.
Fight wild pokemon, fight humans, fight even mechas and tanks (remember, pokemon humans are built different).
The choices are Order (Law), Anarchy (Chaos), or the obvious Neutral.
Your choices are either become the dictadorship's lap dog, or go wild and turn the region into Bagdad circa 2008.
Or, renounce both, follow the path of balance, and reconnect humanity with pokemon.
The Cathedral of Shadows will be replaced by a crazy scientist that FORCES evolution on your pokemon, as long as you bring him materials and money.
You can fight mano a mano, equip weapons, or learn techniques (imagine a normal human throwing an Aura Sphere).
You don't get pokeballs, only the dictadorship, so the only way to get pokemon is to convince them to join you, and even then, it may not work.
It will be filled with some small references to both classic pokemon (what's an "American"?), and SMT (Move to Kichikoji? Where's that?).
And if you find some specific collectibles, you'll get the secret dungeon: you'll be teleported to Micon City, at the 8th floor of the Daedalus Tower, that is filled with Demons, not pokemon, and better get comfy because you won't leave until you reach the bottom, and kill the minotaur.

You get a small selection of Pokemon to form your starter team. Skill trees to learn attacks, passives, and they evolve after enough skill points gained.
Can catch pokemon in the Labyrinth and add them to your team.

Bosses are legendary Pokemon. Can't catch them.
