Super Mario Bros changed my life. Not only do I have great memories of playing it, but it taught me how to overcome immense conflict in life. I was (and still am) very depressed, and getting out of bed in the morning was a struggle. I always described to my friends as feeling "small" before I even knew what Super Mario Bros was. You can imagine how much the game spoke to me when I first played it. Mario never gives up. He dies over and over and keep getting up again and again to run the same course, all to fulfill his purpose, to chase his dreams, to bring about justice. It's bright, and colorful most of the time, hiding the true nature of his cruel world, but when he reaches that flag, it makes you feel new again. When Mario arrives in a new world after countless tries, his purpose is restored and he starts to fit in the world around him. Much like real life, we struggle, and find new obstacles, we feel pathetic and dumb, but those small drops of joy and accomplishment that refill our strength keeps us going. That is what makes living worth it, through all the pain. Super Mario Bros is about life, and that struggle. It's about existence, and trying to find meaning in a vast universe, full of greater things than ourselves. It's about people, and their desire to be more than a bystander to a cycle of pain.
