Master device has i/o priority on the ide branch.
Best results are to separate two hdds on two ide controllers. Install os on one hdd, install game on the second hdd.
So your os doesn't send any random os related read write calls to the hdd where the game is.
Just don't leave your jumper on "cotton picker"
