I would because if I was asked to remake it I assume I would be expected to make some money from my product and gamers today need "Quality of Life" features or they will review bomb my game and youtubers will make videos about me.

why are you defending an objectively terrible game design because of your weird hatred for modern gamers? weirdo

        >objectively terrible game design
It is objectively fine. You simply have a subjective contrarian parroted opinion.
        >because of your weird hatred for modern gamers?
Modern gamers are utterly moronic, as you have demonstrated with your meaningless drivel.

    Donkey Kong World
    -Eight playable kongs
-You select two kongs loadout with the tag barrel
-You switch between them on the fly with a face button
-You collect both of their color bananas no matter who leads
-The pause screen is the tag barrel, when you press start they kongs will manifest the barrel and take the time to leap up into it
-The warp pads are inside the tag barrel, you can return to where you last used the tag barrel
-There's no loading screens or transitions masking load time
-The DK Isle is a big level that contains many interconnected levels
-A second player can plug in a controller and take to controlling the second kong
-There's two multiplayer modes: a Mario Party where all the mini-games from singleplayer campaign are distributed across a DK Isle board that randomizes the path/ and levels that inspire the mini-games players compete in &
:a Diddy Kong Racing where you race kongs in customizable go-karts through he levels from singleplayer campaign.
-as a caveat there's three secret characters to unlock, and they each retain the abilities of two combined kongs, and can collect their two color bananas

For starters, I would just make bananas and coins universal, but keep using the tag barrel. There's more than enough currency for every character to purchase their upgrades. The tag barrel being kept at certain locations means we can still have puzzles about switching characters.

add easy mode that lets you tag anywhere but blocks you from beating the final boss unless you play on normal.

I would make Kong choice permanent, requiring that the game be beaten with the chosen Kong before another choice could be made, much like a New Game+ system. If the player missed something or later unlocked another path linked to a specific Kong, they would need to go through the game again as that Kong.
DK64 is unique in its sheer hatred for the player, it's one of the game's core qualities. And I feel that a remake should not only preserve that, but go above and beyond to enhance it.

teleport pads exist, switching kongs is already easy/fast imo and instant switch just feels like a band-aid.
    here are some problems:
-areas themselves are designed around backtracking and every corner is meant for you to explore 5 times
-minigame bonus barrels are repetitive and at many times feel like lazy ideas for a golden banana in an area
-draw distance is insanely poor for items
-bosses repeat due to dev time

I wouldnt do anything. I would listen to what the game had to say, and thats wht none did.

No. It's more fun to play as individual characters one at a time. It plays like five Banjo Kazooie levels within one world if you do it at that way.

You'd be surprised how rarely you actually NEED to switch. If you start the level with a certain kong (each level is different in regards to which one you should start with) you can activate the switches needed for the other kongs and then just do their stuff later. Part of the fun is planning that kind of stuff ahead and visualizing the optimal kong order to beat a level, if you're autistic like me.

There's no real need for colour coded pick-ups.
If they made a remake, they should just switch that off, and maybe have an optional retro mode, for people who actually like that stuff.

    >make all banans n shit collectable by any kong
    >remove banan balloons because theyre dumb
    >remove repeated bonus stages
    >add agolden banana total menu similar to mario galaxy
I wouldn't change the character barrel or add on the fly switching because the animations the kongs go through when you choose them adds to their personalities and makes you think about what you're gonna do next.

    Remaster? Yes. Remake? No.

In a remake I would address the many other flaws in the game so that playing as different Kongs is deeper than just what color of collectable you can pick up or what pad/barrel you can touch.

Wouldn’t remake it, I think it’s great as is.

A BotW type of game using all the “coconut gun” technology would be cool.

Sonic Adventure 1 style where you unlock other Kongs as you progress (as normal) but you choose them separately on a character select screen before starting the game, however, there will be a few segments where you'll need to play as one Kong to allow other Kongs to progress.

The "tag anywhere" hack is just an easy mod to bandaid the real issue.
I would redesign the worlds in general to prevent the need for it in the first place. Which means two things:
    1) Have warp pads always combine in one spot like your image
    2) Reorder collectables locations so that you don't need to come back as 3 different kongs just to clear a hallway.

Why does it filter so many people when they see a colored banana they can't pick up? Just pick it up later. It's actually moronic to insist on switching right then and there because you're removing the bread crumbs from the level. Then you're gonna complain that the levels are too massive and don't have enough direction.

It's not THAT bad, but it also doesn't actually add a lot to the game. Having to change your character to pick up an item isn't a challenge.
It is definitely something that completionists who want to power through the game in an afternoon exaggerate though. You don't have to 100% a collectathon to have fun with it. They were never designed that way.
It's like people who can't put down a game now until they unlock all of the achievements. It's a particular brand of gamer derangement that I don't share.
Just stop playing the game once you've beaten the story, and reached the point where you've stopped having fun. That's what normal people do.
Going for the 100% should be something for people who are so into the game, they want to squeeze as much out of it as they can. If it's not fun for you, what are you doing it for?

I think it does add a lot. As I said, they function as bread crumbs. If you're playing through the level just one kong at a time, these clues serve to let you know where to go when you switch kongs next. You don't need to pick another kong's items up right then and there, just make a mental note and come back later. It's how you know which route to take as the various kongs, you go "I yeah I remember I saw Tiny's blueprint in this area when I was Diddy, and I know I can get there on my way to getting Tiny's cranky upgrade, so I'll go there on my way there". Take that out and it's frankly a mindless game.

so much this, and it's not even hard to understand if you played the game. if people actually took the time to try it out for more than the 10 minutes that they need to confirm in their minds whatever bullshit some youtuber fed them, they'd see that. the game does have some issues, but i swear they never come up in the list of the parroted opinions that bounced the internet for the last 15 years or something.

If it was just a case of bananas leading you to the relevant parts of the stage, that'd be one thing, but there are definitely cases where they drop an item somewhere just to make you turn around, find the barrel, and come back, and that isn't very fun.
Colour coded blueprints, at the very least, were overkill.

            Anonymous

You don't actually have to just drop what you're doing and enter the barrel though. That's my entire point. It's more fun if you don't do that, and it makes more sense.

              Anonymous

There are definitely points in the game where basically you find yourself in a room as one Kong, with something you can't grab, and do you turn around, enter a barrel and come back.
Specifically there's the part where you complete some sequence of events to open the pyramid, and then you get in there and I'm pretty sure you have to use Tiny to beat a segment, and then you move to the final chamber, and there's a barrel and a bunch of Lanky Bananas you can pick up.
Realistically, as a player, you're not going to leave all of that shit there, and come back for it later, because it's so far out of the way, and so you and you transform into Lanky, and you grab all of the bananas.
Not the worst thing in the world, but effectively padding for time. I wasn't having a lot of fun just walking to the barrel to turn into a different Kong. The logical thing would have been if those were either bananas anyone could pick up, or they were Tiny's bananas, since I had to be her to get in there in the first place, so the developers know I'm playing as her already.

Again. You don't actually have to switch. Just play one kong at a time. I have played this game for two decades, it's one of my most replayed gamed, and I never switch. The situation you're talking about was the exact scenario I was trying to describe earlier.

That level has three temples, one requires all five kongs to go through it, the other two require all five kongs but spread out (something like 2 for one temple and 3 for the other). You know you have to reenter the temple. So just reenter the temple later. Don't switch five times in one area. Just get your stuff and leave. It will all be waiting when you get back.

                >But it's so far out of the way and I don't want to back track
But it doesn't actually feel that way when you're just playing one kong at a time. It's all integrated in one route. You're not thinking "I have to go back to where I was earlier", you're thinking "this kong needs to enter this room for the first time". You already know the temple is required, so you already have it integrated into the route. The temple with the five kongs is the last temple each one enters, it's a good level closer, and the other one depends on which room the kong enters first. And the one kong method is designed to be played in short bursts, it's something you can do in between tasks, or with breaks in between, even with days in between, while just walking around and switching whenever you see something color coded is a longer session and a more directionless one.

Keep Donkey Kong and Diddy. Simplify it to needing to collect 10 golden bananas per level. Make it a Donkey Kong skin of Banjo Kazooie. Keep the other characters for minigames or subsections where you exclusively control them for that particular area.
