I'll improve the souls formula by never making another souls game ever again

    a return to DaS1:
    >tightly connected hubs
    >see that thing there? you can go there and kill shit
    >less twitch based, tracking shit like you see in DaS3
    >less emphasis on the cringe zanzibart storytelling/lore tropes

In addition to what other anon said
          >Health removal on death, making the effigy more important
          >Rat covenant, but place it in mandatory areas
          >Other covenants because even when they're jank, they're better than the nothing ER had
          >Small white soapstone
          >Stat requirement for powerstancing
          >Heavy weapons having too high stat req to powerstance, making it a small/dex playstyle
          >Bring back weapons with good base stats but poor scaling
          >Bring back infusions with zero scaling for builds that want the minimum stats in a weapon, but have stats elsewhere
          >Sacrificial casting
          >SPELLS HAVE CHARGES HOLY FRICK FP SUCKS
          >Weapon arts could also have charges to make up for their power level
          >Bring back vitality for equip load, and have endurance instead govern the amount of WA charges you get in addition to stamina
          >Remove blue flasks
          >Spell slots not determined by a key item (which makes FP mostly useless, even for casters)
          >Memory/attunement giving a percent of additional charges as you level it, in addition to extra slots
and not really a das 2 thing, but
          >Allow invasions where there is 1 host and 1 coop partner by default. If the host wants 2 partners they get an automatic taunter tongue effect and will likely be invaded by 2 invaders

I loved ER but absolutely hate that it kept the FP system from Das3 and made it even worse by making spell slots a universal freebee. In Das 1&2 sorcery was distinct from miracles because faith spells had far fewer charges and heals acted to bolster your limited flasks. In Das 3 and ER heals feel largely pointless since they're slower than flasks (and likely will get you killed in fights) and require you to sacrifice shit for blue bar and blue flasks

            >ER mentioned
There's a lot of nice things about it but I'm gonna shit if the next Souls-esque game has me fight another giant boss with only skinny legs for hurtboxes.

      >Lock specific boss weapons behind fighting them solo, without summons.
I like that idea, but it would probably be too harsh to the casuals. Maybe something like a 20% runes bonus if you beat the boss without summons would be workable without pissing off too many people

Make dungeons more interactive, kind of like what the Dark Souls 2 DLC was trying to do. Add in some actually decent puzzles and well done platforming to spice the game up.

    >Make fewer weapons with bigger move sets, there's no point in having 20 different swords that are slightly different from each other
    >Weapons that you're not currently holding don't count towards your weight, that way people might actually use the extra hand slots and do weapon switching in combat
    >Lower stat requirements for weapons/spells and lower upgrade costs so people can actually experiment with new things they find

    >give all weapons more weight and have more strength/dex swing them faster
    >make magic less braindead
    >fix the fricking AI, it still is easily cheesable in a lot of places if you jump up a ledge or go beyond a fog gate (with the boss already gone)
    >remove or rebalance a lot of the fricking arts
    >let HP be level based instead of a stat you put up

    >how would you improve the Souls formula?
Bring back poise to operate like it did in DaS1
Buff defenses of Heavy Armor so wearing it actually means something.
Far more emphasis on Impactful Armor special effects instead of a few pieces giving a special bonus like Increased Souls gained
More Armor and Weapon customization. Gem Slots or something like it.
Bring back Life Gems(More consumes that restore Health and Mana in general), Bonfire Ascetics.
Stop with the all the Chanting Orchestral music for every boss. Unique music again like Demon's Souls.
Less emphasis on BOSS SWING PRESS DODGE fight design.
Tweak the defenses system so every Infused weapon doesn't just become garbage.
Give enemies ACTUAL weaknesses and not "they take 50% reduced damage from every type except X which they take 30% reduced damage from:"
Add something similar to the Skill Tree from Sekiro.
Include FAR more utility spells that can grant combat benefits if used well together and Spell combos. Soul Sacrifice Magic mechanics are 10x better than Souls games

Make a smaller scale game ala KF2 with a vertically stacked map (like DS1 but more refined) that has a central healing fountain, you need to go there to fill your flasks and restore your HP/MP. Go fricking hard on the dungeon design, fill it with traps and interesting tricks so even veterans have to be watchful. Fill the game with interesting riddles you need to solve (I'm thinking Silent Hill 2/3 tier puzzles) some mandatory for progression others not so much. Throw in a magic system stolen from Eternal Ring but with more refinement, make durability count and rather than having tons of armor/weapons have a small number of them but make them all important.

    >Improve shields
    >Return Poise to DS1 levels
    >Remove crafting and just put that shit at stores in good/infinite supply.
    >Return game structure to be like Dark Souls 2, make multiple "hub" areas, probably 3, that run on loops and weaves like the beginning of Dark Souls 1.
    >Keep infusions working like Elden Ring, keep ashes of war
    >Add partial refunding of titanite from upgraded weapons
    >Opt in stat reduction (you can go into some settings and reduce your stats temporarily at any time)
    >Walk bosses back to be more like DS3, but with the situational awareness and responsiveness of Elden Ring. No ninja flipping, bullet time falling guys unless it makes sense
    >return bonfire ascetics
