If you were offered 100k a year to work in the game industry(must be directly tied to game making/marketing) what position would you take?
If you were offered 100k a year to work in the game industry(must be directly tied to game making/marketing) what position would you take?
Director, obviously.
directors make way more than 100k lmao
t. multiple friends in industry
And I make about 25K right now. I wouldn't care.
have you considered not being a poorgay?
If you're such a richgay hire all of us poorgays for 30k each then, we'll take it.
you know you don't actually have to work at mcdonalds right?
I'm doing junior design work, 25-30k (before tax) is average salary around here for jobs like these. I'm not a burger.
Burgers just have overinflated salaries since they have to pay thousands upon thousands for healthcare, college and mortgage
I have to pay fricked up prices for school and houses too
At least my parents won't kick me out of the house and we have subsidized healthcare
Not in the small ass studio I'd work for
Composer.
No. Producers do. Directors get pushed around by the publisher/producer.
>directors make way more than 100k lmao
yeah, but they all suck penis and have to have their ideas approved by executive producer who will tell them to neuter the game
ideas guy
sorry, must be a israelite for executive board
audio engineer / designer
love that sort of shit in video games
>audio engineer
that's already my job. it's pretty comfy compared to other positions, hard to get a full time gig in vidja as one tho since most of it is contracted out these days. Being an actual wwise engineer sucks, it's grunt work like almost every other position.
I run a recording studio and mostly just do ADR sessions for games and animated shows, as well as freelance A1 for live TV
Janitor
>100k
would ask for more
Creative director I suppose.
social media guy. literal shitposting job
Diversity consultant.
This answer is the best as no one on this board has the technical knowledge or experience to do anything useful and diversity consultant is a do nothing job
"We need more Black person trannies"
Easiest job of your life
i already am well beyond that position while working in the games industry, thank you
I believe you, but only because you weren't able to complete your sentence properly. Just like all high income people in the industry, you can't finish anything properly.
Director of LBGTQI+ Relations
for subversive purposes of course
Prominent investor
H-scene mocap actor.
Physics director
Concept artist. Would be a dream come true
Got a folio?
Hideo Kojima
>If you were offered 100k a year to work in the game industry(must be directly tied to game making/marketing) what position would you take?
lead game designer at valve
just writing i guess, i don't do creative stuff
100k isn't a lot in this economic climate. give me 150k you capitalist pig or i'm starting a union
Live in your fricking car you filthy peasant you'll take 100k and you like it
>give me 150k you capitalist pig
*outsources your job to china*
we'll keep your cv on file anon, thanks for coming in
*shreds your cv*
Good morning sir. I am from India and I'll gladly take 80k as a game programmer
what a steal! better hire 2
im the guy who whips the rowers
I don't know anything about coding, modeling, art, marketing, or management so if I'm starting from scratch I might as well go all the way and be one of the 5 total AI developers in the industry
People talk shit about idea guys but we have tons of games with high production values and mediocre to bad gameplay, story, and overall design, I think we might actually need better idea guys
Systems design. You wouldn't need a dedicated employee for this in a small team, but it's my favorite aspect of game development.
scrum master lol
why would you do a job that requires actual work
Lead writer.
Your combat flourish writing needs work. It feels very robotic.
Yeah, it's been a while since I've wrote fight scenes.
Nah, I enjoy being a virtual assistant and even more if I consider that I earn triple-quadruple the monthly salary in my country of someone in my same position, all this while only working about 20 hours a week. For things like this alone I like to live in the 3rd world
I’ll get the coffee
Music composition if I also had ample time to make the soundtracks. Sometimes, the reason why some OST's are ass (despite the composer being very skilled and knowledgeable ) is because they're given very little time to actually put their heart and odd time signatures into it.
Modeling
Enjoy making random props like a pen, a pot, a chair or a turd 95% of your time
character designer for cyberconnect2 and I'd make everything 1% more lewd
CEO of course
I already make this much working remotely and have vastly better benefits and job security than I'd ever get in the games industry. People think it's a dream job until they realize it's not.
hand drawn 2d animator like Skullgirls and Cuckhead and not that pixel shit.
I wanna do pixelshit if it's anything like what Alim does, fricking love their spritework.
Same, wagebro. Even if I paid half of that to the government I'd still be making double of what I am now.
Conma-I mean concepts guy.
>can't code
>can't draw
>don't know anything about music
>know if i was given full control i'd just make something safe and formulaic or a replica of my favorite stuff
People have told me they like my writing and I'm good at nailing voices and dialogue. I don't have the courage to be a lead writer but I could help, I suppose.
greeter
>100k
That isn't even that much money, and I live in Michigan. I make $80k doing basically nothing at an ISP and work from home full time. I wouldn't trade that to work hard in the games industry for another 20k.
Some people have ambition and haven't found a hole to crawl in and die.
Cool, enjoy your part time job at burgerland bud
LARP thread
Pure copium. Learn to push pixels and you too can cash in.
Larping is not videogames
lol must be nice to think what I said wasn't true 🙂
They're not larping, people use strings from family and friends to get jobs 70k right out of college
breast milk thief
Writer. I dunno what else that would bring me joy other than working on the lore, giving item descriptions, creating dialogue, screenwriting for scenes, writing whatever needs to be written on the UX, etc
ayy
Why would I want to make less money than I do now working a job I'd like significantly less as well
Catering
Bethesda QA
>not expected by anybody to do my job
>get to just play my Steam Deck all day
>people here say they make more than that already
>here I sit in a wage cage living on not even 25k
Where is that wage cage wojak
>here I sit in a wage cage living on not even 25k
What the frick do you do for less than 25k? Where do you live? You can get more working at a fricking grocery store easily.
>You can get more working at a fricking grocery store easily.
Giant
You live in whitehall? Dude go get a job at meijer instead.
>Whitehall
>look it up
>it's in the UK
Now I see the breakdown in understanding
whitehall michigan. it's where the headquarters of Giant is you fricking mongoloid. I live in Michigan.
So you assumed I worked at the headquarters like I'm some kind of X-men recruit?
>What states are Meijers in?
>Overall, Meijer operates 248 supercenters and grocery stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.May 15, 2020
I never even heard of this company/store until you brought it up
so what the frick do you do for $12 an hour? Unload trucks or something? Learn a fricking skill.
Cashiering
You're over here going on about how much more could have been made at a grocery store and then you go "not that one" like you're Namco when it comes to the Tales series and then you do this
Just post the wage cage wojak like I requested earlier
Go apply at 5 other places right now and make more money, Quit being a little b***h acting like this is "Happening" to you. You're the reason that wages are so low. Go pursue a better paying job and quit being a fricking passive homosexual.
I didn't act like a b***h, all I did was point out that I made less than what people say is so low and for someone to post an image, you're just the one being an overly aggressive dick about it like you're on some kind of aggressive drug
You sound like a b***h.
And you need to lay off the drugs
I'm straight edge.
That's doubtful considering your state of residence and your attitude
>I live in Michigan
Hi neighbor
Oh hey there bud how ya doin?
>100K
poorgay
>dreams are jobs
What a frickin con
I make over 100k, and do nothing lol.
What i've learned over the years is that the more money i make, the less I do. I also do next to nothing lmao.
you can pick another do nothing video game job and you make a free 100k ya dingus. im a landlord and make 14k a month, but sure ill be a part time ideas guy. gimme that 100k
I would take a 25k job. It's worth a fortune for my country anyway
Which position requires the least amount of work?
>4 fingers
why and where did it come from?
I make 150k annually as an unreal engineer.
Jannie
i dont get how people can stomach programming
We don't, that's why we work from home. We actually only work a few hours a day. It's all held up by 1% of programmers who actually work 40+ hours a week while the rest of us procrastinate
yeah well I hate that kind of arrangement. on one hand I'm okay that I get to do the menial shit but on the other i'm pissed that I'll never attain that one guy's skills to advance in my career
id make 3d models. i do that now and make 70k so itd just be a 30k raise
what do you use?
is blender gonna be okay for a good while and will the skill transfer easily to the big boys' software like maya or 3ds max?
not him, skill transfers extremely easily. the hard part is figuring out all the new menus, options, keybinds and names for features. youll spend a while googling "how do i do [blender feature] in maya", get extremely frustrated, then finally find a blog post that says "yeah just press alt+shift+q lol" and want to bash your skull in at how obvious that solution was
I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself then. Still got plenty of studying to do in Blender
what do you make? what do companies look for in portfolios?
>what do companies look for in portfolios?
if you are trying to break in to the industry, include something soulless that shows you made it for another company. too many artgays load their portfolios up with epic 10,000 hour fursona renders. you wont be doing that on the job. lie on your resume and say you made a generic car model or office interior for xyz advertisement consultant marketing firm and they used it in an insurance commercial. that shows you know what its like to work as a drone on the company's pipeline
i havent applied for a 3d modeling gig in over a decade so maybe things changed. who knows
>Work my ass off in management
>Everyone who works below me hates me
>Everyone above me b***hes at me constantly
>On call 24/7
>The rare 40 hour work week feels like a vacation
>The other managers equal to me act like this is all normal and just accept it
>Make 40k year salary
This is my final week in this nightmare, after this I’m going back to bartending where I can make the same, if not better money, and work less hours with less responsibilities. Currently I’m F&B manager of the biggest hotel in my city, responsible for overseeing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the banquet department. The pay I get is a fricking joke and the hospitality business is bullshit. I’ll just end up being a 40 year old bartender at this point.
by the time you're a 40 year old bartender, you'll also own the bar
Anon how old do you think I am as the F&B manager of a large hotel? They want like 10+ years experience for this position, which I have, because I’m in my mid 30s. The pay is a joke for the experience they want and the job they expect of you, they’re never going to reliably fill the spot.
>they’re never going to reliably fill the spot.
They should be paying you more then, cause they're going to have a nasty wake up call once you leave.
You could try switching to a better hotel and see if they pay better, or any time of person managing position that pays better, I think the skills would translate decently well.
If you want more money but sorta physically intensive work, try out for usps or amazon as a package handler, you're just moving mail and boxes all day for around 17/hr with high chance of OT pay. Probably pick up some skills on the side or something.
composer. i really love doing music for people's projects but it feels like everything i work on falls through, so an offer like that would be a dream come true
I make far less than that in the industry already.
Game tester
I'd be the janitor and just frick off lol
hey jannie the toilets clogged again
For a hundred k I'd fix that toilet right up mf
HR and I fire everyone
THE WARTHOG IS BACK
Some useless managerial one at Blizzard so I can just get drunk, harass women, and steal breastmilk to sell to gymbros.
Remote QA testing
Obviously, an idea guy.
Why learn to code or use blender to get 100k when you can be an idea guy and get 100k.
what if i have no ideas and just want to take orders like a monkey
AAAAAA I DON'T WANT TO THINK STOP MAKING ME USE MY BRAIN I DON'T WANT TO OWN ANY PROJECTS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I don't get it, you'd still be using your brain either way since you are a monkey (with an applicable skill) taking orders from someone who's arguably busier than you but lacks the technical skills of their subordinates
Not really, it's a completely different thing using your brain to do technical stuff compared to having to come up with problems, ideas, solutions, propositions etc. It's like doing what you're told to do vs coming up with things to do.
t.art autist who somehow wandered into ux design
well I suppose I understand being a codemonkey myself (albeit a terrible one), but still it's a huge hassle to deal with complex technical stuff all around
Work do be like that, only difference is what kind of hassle you're willing to put up with for the $ you're getting
shit I've been a NEET for almost a year already. either I need a career change because frick programming or just suck it up and try to improve
If you have a lot of free time you could look into taking up some courses for whatever you're interested in. Even if nothing works out you still get to pad out your resume and show what a hard worker you are doing night class while working or whatever.
yeah that's the hardest thing for me. I got a lot of udemy courses that I haven't started yet and I'm slipping fast.
Just get started, motherfricker
That's usually the hardest part
im doing my damnedest here ok
moron wrangler. Someone has got to wrangle up the morons who pitch their moronic ideas that causes 6 months of work to be useless and make everyone else crunch every day to try to kludge their moron idea into the engine. b***h I got important jerking off to Lusty Argonian Maid porn at home I got to do. Worse yet, the moron that decides that the project needs an engine change after half the work is already done, frick that guy.
this guy is usually that 'tard. frick this guy i'll beat him with the cinderblock.
Having to be around sjw leftist types and have to pretend to give a single frick about the inane moronic wrong shit they say isn't worth 100k to me
Any position where I can work from home and not be bothered by anyone.
Map Designer/Mechanical consultant.
I wanna be the guy who explains exactly how to logically implement interactivity and atmosphere using shitass engines that are outdated so you have to do triggerbox frickery to get the desired results the engine wasn't made for, and then curse the very existence of said engine while doing it all over again next time because I'm a fricking masochist that lives for environmental storytelling and will not let said shitass engine get in the way as long as I have triggerboxes and animations/soundevents I can activate with said triggerboxes. This must be what hatefricking feels like.
>t. already have mapping experience for the source engine and GZDoomBuilder
Am I guaranteed not to get fired no matter who shitty I am? Probably a concept artist or some shit.
Art Dept
Character Design & Concept Art
QA and I will always say that their games suck
Social media outreach and in house content creator, aka the guy who streams the new games for people and gets to interact with the fan base directly.
checking if the game's female characters show enough skin
Trainee molester
Concept artist, vfx or animator
I will be a director and force them to make attractive girls.
QA Manager, it's what I actually do and the best position in QA since you don't even need to touch the product, just manage the team and have infinite meetings with other managers. Also you never get fired at the end of projects like the engineers since they need you to start planning the next project and hiring new people.
>the best position in QA since you don't even need to touch the product, just manage the team and have infinite meetings with other managers.
is that why so many games release broken nowadays, the frick man
Nah, games are broken cause most companies spend like 0.1% of the budget on QA and most of the people designing and running the tests are either contractors or new in the industry and paid like crap. QA is an afterthought when in reality it should be involved right from the beginning of a project, even before a single line of code is written.
I guess writing, because I have no actual technical skills, and I could probably write better than 90% of people writing for games.
>100k a year to work for some soulless video game publisher who forces your entire development team to follow a boring formula and monetization scheme and makes sure you inject your game with contemporary politics like lgbt shit and diversity shit
Not worth it.
Führer
Idea guy CHADS rise up!
I will choose to be a Janitor. I already am a specialist from cleaning the bathroom and floor of my own house.
>He's doing it for free
The code monkey they keep in the basement
I'm good at 3-D modeling, storyboarding and texturing so maybe one of those. The real kicker would be avoiding crunch time and not getting fired after every project. Also not competing with Pajeets either here or across the world.
I'd also offer to write part-time since video games take themselves too seriously and could use a funny script once in a while.
I'm looking for work so this thread really speaks to me.
I would reject it
And I am a decent, degreed programmer
I genuinely hate most of the "people" in the industry to even be their coffee b***h let alone work with them
>I've never met anyone who works for a game studio, but I saw a picture of a woman with dyed hair once
Thanks to the wonders of modern media we can see exactly how the modern game dev acts and speaks to others, and the majority of them are insufferable buttholes
this is what "people" of Ganker actually think... must be good to be a kid
how many gay orgies did you have at work today gayme industry anon
Social media manager so I do nothing all day except make like 3 tweets.
I will be the guy who relocates the CEO's yacht.
Either writer or historical consultant.
Lighting, camera, and cutscene design. Games look realistic but almost always have awful visual direction and lighting. Cutscenes look terrible most of the time.
Is this mostly composition stuff or are you some kind of film major?
The entirety of HR, so I can purge problem employees and other dead weight while preventing those same kind of worthless subhumans from ever being hired in the first place and shitting up the company and its future projects
>pronouns? shredder
>sjw shit? shredder
>dyed hair? you're not what we're looking for and the shredder
>gay politics? oh shit it's the shredder
>other code monkeys have to constantly fix your shit? clean out your desk, right fricking now
>social media is filled with virtue signaling? shred it bruh
>no, we're not mandating any vax or masks or other gayness, if you don't like it, there's the fricking door
>If you were offered 100k a year to work in the game industry(must be directly tied to game making/marketing) what position would you take?
I wouldn't take it. I make almost twice as much.
Ganker shill.
fluffer
There's nothing saying I won't be held to the same standard as any other employee filling that position so I'd just get fired anyway
I would work on the companies Twitter, all I have to do is call our fans incels and tell them to frick off and not buy the game
probably be a paid shill
I already post here might as well just make money while doing it
getting 115k already in games.
Executive producer. I'll show up to meetings occasionally and nod sagely at everything
When i was young i wanted to be a game dev and i probably spent hundreds of hours making stuff in Maya. So probably environmental / vehicle stuff because i can't organic model
director
Community manager
>browse reddit and v all day
>find some fresh bussing straight up no cap lit ass memes
>repost it on twitter
>sometimes post some big chungus wholesome 100 on the reddit community
>every redditor from this side of the mississipi loves me
>if i get fired the company gets #canceled
Flawless plan, just dont say moronic shit like the blizzard phone guy or the war thunder CM who made a blacked reference
that wouldnt be enough as lead engine dev
Marketing or community director, because it would be a flood of pol after pol to ensure the longevity of the game with both quality and transparency
i wouldn't bother, because i know shit about that shit and would have been fired within a week, anyways.
Ideas guy with full control. Basically like Kojima but with actual talent.
You have no actual talent.
shut up Kojima
$100k is shit pay these days id take something easy with low responsibility like delivering mail
fart sound effects director.
Some Project Management Office position probably
A job where i only need to show up once a week and do barely any work
Chief diversity officer
QA video game tester
Character designer and director
Cowgirl
My dream job in the industry would be lead director. I'd like to bring the team together to make a kickass game.
Aiming a little lower than that atm
HR
