These are the current genre defining games. It's like saying call of duty isn't an FPS because you don't shoot demons and you can aim up and down.
there is no content in either game that involves the participation of a massive number of players. Wow may have started out with some but it no longer is there. A game of modern battlefield has more players interacting with eachother at a time than any content in world of warcraft or final fantasy.

They're supposed to be your friends. I know you have no idea what an MMO is supposed to be about, but you should at least be able to follow the story and see how the bonds of friendship are pretty central to Azem's character. The developers went and introduced a canon method for calling your friends to join you. FYI, WoL also literally walked to the adventurers' guild and recruited random adventurers for going to kill the Twelve too.

No, they didn't. Prologue is great, one of the best recurring songs in FF and leave a huge impact in FF4's final fight. Red Wings for the second phase was really good though. Not a fan of Zeromus remix.

SoD isn't really that interesting though, it has most of the faults of both classic/retail and not much good going for it. Hoping the p2 changes are interesting enough to give you build options and make something other than fury/rogue meta for once in classic's history
no, but the level brackets are nice so you can experience those dungeons more than you normally would. Thus you basically have a easy to create raid. I love my shaman tank which actually has a lot of changes hopefully i can do some damage in gnomey with some 2 hand rune or something

Final Fantasy has a far more generous free trial, you can play for hundreds of hours for free and it has the Novice Network a chat specifically designed to help new players along with giving new players a Sprout above their heads which veteran players will treat you extra nice and help you out.
WoW has nothing like that, free trial until level 20 in retail but that's nothing you can blast that in about 5-10 hours and you're done.
FF14 players/ community on the whole is also far more welcoming to new players than WoW, WoW likes to Gatekeep and if you don't have certain gear you will be locked out of content/ dungeons e.t.c. and there are a lot of shit bucket players who hate new players in WoW.

I can't recommend wow at all. Retail doesn't let you play the game. Queues take hours to pop since the game is dead as frick and endgame is filled with tryharding cliques that won't do content with you since you don't have parses or your gearscore is too low. It's literally impossible to play and more of a single player experience these days. Highly recommend to play literally anything else. On top of that the game is pozzed as frick and full of Black folk and troony npcs.
SOD: bit better and the only active part of wow. You play for 10 hours until you reach max level of 25 and then only log in twice a week for 30 minutes to raid because there is nothing else to do.
FFXIV: actually great game with tons of issues. Only mmo that actually feels like an mmo.
FFXI: more active than retail wow. Hard to get into at the start but once you got the hang of things the comfiest game over all
Runescape: autism the game. Great to kill years of your life with cool music and dialogue/writing.
Guild Wars 1 & 2. Both dead games but gw1 is worth any time since it's playable solo and the music is made by jeremy soule who also composed for morrowind. 2 is full of trannies and jeremy got falsly accused of rape and metoo'd. b***h got away and nothing happened.
ESO: pretty game but boring as frick due to level scaling and meh plot. Tons of great ideas that just didn't come through good enough. Its really boring and I wish it wasn't

Yeah, levelling up yourself whilst watching bunch of poorly animated cutscenes is what MMOs are all about right? Can't forget the worst itemisation in the genre, zero character building, useless and dead open-world, hallway dungeons and boring class design.
compared to wow cutscenes? FFXIV cutscenes are great. Wow doesn't have any character building either since you just rip a build from icyveins anyway because if you don't nobody will play with you. If you want prove just remember how people had to make new characters because they chose the wrong faction in shadowlands and weren't min max until blizzard fixxed it literally 8 months later. Same for SOD. Everyone is playing the same build. There is no such thing as character building. The community is too brainrotten for that and blizzard too incompetent to do it right.
Your pic and post reminded me about that femscalie that died in the first zone of Dragonflight, comparing her to the first fem Hyur that died in Shadowbringers is like day and night, even if both of them were only around for 2-3 quests their death and the effect it had on the characters could actually be felt in XIV unlike in WoW where the character is forgotten by the next quest.

Any MMO where you level up by watching cutscenes is shit. FFXIV is the worst game I've ever seen trying to pass it self off as an "MMORPG", but the game and parties are small as shit and has zero character building or meaningful progression. The only choice you have as a player is what variety of DPS/Healer/Tank you want to play, and they all basically do the same shit anyway. The only reason I made it to endgame in XIV was to play with my friends, but even those fricking morons haven't played the game since October 2022.

Again, haven't played WoW, so I can't comment on any of that, but FFXIV has those FATE events in the open-world. Except nobody ever does them because the reward for doing so is garbage amounts of EXP. Which means the most effective way of levelling after you finish the story, is to just spam braindead hallway dungeons until level 81 and then suffer through one of the ugliest and most empty zones in gaming, Bozja. Don't know why the moronic devs didn't make Fates give better EXP.

the world is fricking BARREN in 14 because it's only used for leveling and that's it. At least WoW has world quests, quest hubs with rep, event hubs every patch for collectibles you can come back and do, etc. 14 has absolutely nothing. Leveling from 1 to max level right now in FF14 is a depressing experience outside of your daily dungeon.
Join an FC, it'll improve your experience tenfold I promise you.

I tried to play because my friend who I love very much played the game and I wanted to play with him.
Mind you, I play many games, many old games where you put high amounts of effort like fricking Quest 64 or Phantasy Star II.
But this game was just too depressing and grindy. Especially when I got bored of Black Mage being just a WoW Warlock for toddlers and wanted to try the other jobs. I had no quests to play them. I only had the main story to get exp and the daily dungeon. The world barren, of course. I got to like lvl 60 and I decided to drop it. The most engaging fun I had was healing the little daily dungeon but I couldn't spam dungeons like WoW for leveling. I had to slog as Bmage through boring fedex quests or kill x of y. frick it.

Shame just ten more levels and you could access Eureka and then ten more you'd be at Bojza, not to mention the Diadem for crafters. Those are the "Open World" mmo areas you'd be used to seeing in a traditional mmo, unfortunately FF14 doesn't explain too well those areas existing.

that depends on the job you're playing, some jobs have a ton of off-gcd things to press, sometimes requiring you to weave 2 extra abilities inside of a GCD constantly in your rotation

FF14 also has jobs with lower than standard GCDs. And FF14 jobs tend to have way more oGCDs that have to be weaved in between GCDs. I don't think there are any Wow classes that actually need 30+ slots to contain all the action icons.
iirc mage classes in WoW average around six slots which is close to black mage, who still has a lot of random procs or timed procs, sharpcast to force procs, teleports and shields

This is how I know you don't endgame raid in FFXIV because 2.5gcd yes, but you have just as many OCDs to weave in between. Plus you can use materia to get that down to 2.3 in most cases Monk being the fastest class with a potential gcd of 1.9 but this is really fast as again you have a lot of ogcds to be weaving.

The hardest WoW mechanics have ever been are inconsistent. for instance, BFA is known to be an extremely simple design for bosses. However, it has 1 or 2 autism bosses like the final worm boss of Uldir. In general most WoW bosses are not complex, and the rotations have only become easier with time. Classic has also showcased that the old rotations where never hard either.

SoD is a fun way to engage in vanilla WoW. I'd dare say it has been more fun than hardcore, SoM and the initial launch. You get to 25 in 4 hours and you're done. You can quickly be done with the experience as well. Just don't level in the barrens.

There’s literally 0 long term progression systems (a core system for any MMO) so the expansions are just like seasons, you play through the MSQ then quit until a month before the next expansion release. You can grind any glamour relics you missed in a few weeks before the next expansion, it’s a fricking single player snooze outside of the month before and month after an expansion.

WoW is better at it than Final Fantasy. I've had fun with both, but WoW classic/Discovery is fun at level 1 onwards, and Final Fantasy was a brain numbing slog for dozens of hours until I got to some semblance of fun. WoW classic and Discovery are just better overall, especially at progression curves and pacing. FF is a frickin mess despite all the legit improvements they've made. I'd rather play FF than retail WoW though, so there's that.

Played wow for like 12 years, been playing xiv for 5. The only thing I miss from wow the my Warlock.
XIV surpasses WoW in almost every regard. Music, Story, Encounters. But I'd go for more Relics if it had WoW's transmog system. But that's about it.
Also, XIV has the potential of pulling from nostalgia string from more sources than WoW. XIV has a shitton of older FFs to sustain it for another decade. Meanwhile WoW completely trashed the old lore and every attempt of doing something original has fallen flat.
Plus, XIV has the potential of collaboration with other franchises. The Nier one was massive, I doubt we'd get another Alliance Raid that isn't FF themed. But we still have Granblue, Chrono Trigger and many SE JRPGs to collab with.
imagine if we got a WoW crossover and we got class tier armors in PS3-early PS4 graphics and WoW got the first custom armor models in ages with a dragoon or white mage set

Depends on your preferences.
WoW Classic is all about your journey. While the quests people do are all the same it still is a unique experience in itself to play with others. But once you are done it's either time to quit or start over with a new character. There is nothing desirable once you cleared all the content and retail WoW is dogshit.
XIV meanwhile is a visual novel first and MMO second. The long-ass story is what connects players and once you are done with everything it's your choice to either raid, become some kind of housing autist, fish, or just hang out in the gold saucer all day. XIV can easily be either the most social MMO of them all or the most lonely one depending on who you are and what you do.
