We've had this thread before. The 0/10 rating system is moronic and never made any sense.
99% of all games are rated between 7-8.
If they actually wanted to say something they would have used /5

1/5 means unplayable don't buy it
2/5 means it's not worth buying
      3/5 means it's worth buying
      4/5 is a recommendation
      5/5 it's a must buy

We learn nothing from a review system that will grade literally unplayable unfinished dog shit like that vampire shooter 6/10. This is why nobody cares about review sites and this moronic 9/10 rating they'd give to Zelda.

brainlet take. dividing the scale by 2 isn't going to change shitty review processes. the problem's not in the numbers but in the dependencies of the reviewers on the publishers.

No it isn't, it's "do you recommend this product?". Someone can like a game but not recommend it for some reason, it happens all the time.

            Anonymous

That is genuinely better. Seeing people not recommend the game despite long hours played is an actually a good way to see if their review holds merit. One of the big problem with modern review systems is games journos will play a game for an incredibly short period of time on the lowest difficulty and skipping all the tutorials then gives an incredibly stilted interpretation of the game because if they get their review out first, they get more clicks and more money. They literally will not know what they're talking about and you can't even say they've played enough to formulate their opinions. If a guy's got 1500 hours in a game and he's telling me it's an addictive shitpile, possibly due to a recent update (Name a big name reviewer who updates their reviews to correlate with big game updates - you can't) I'm more inclined to believe him, and I'll know if it was either resolved or the reviewer is just weak-willed or spiteful if they've put in another 1500 hours afterwards.

              Anonymous

I agree, but I was just trying to point out that it's not like a review score. A lot of people think a 90% on steam in a 9/10 or an A-, that isn't what it is at all.

            Anonymous

People with a thousand hours give the best reviews of a product recommended or not. They can go into depth on really specific reasons and what has changed with a game.
Thats why i tend to consult the masses instead of individuals when it comes to recommending shit. Contrary to what Ganker thinks the masses are thousands of times smarter and more perceptive than individuals.

There is literally no reason for a number system. It does nothing. A review should have text about how the person who played it felt and then at the end you should be able to figure out if you like it or not. The entire "7/10" shit is stupid. Humans are not even good at naturally utilizing a scale like this, and always tend towards certain numbers.

Number ratings are gay and only exist so they can be easy plastered on advertisements. A video game is way too complex to just tie a silly number to it as a whole. A game review should end with a 2-5 paragraph verdict and thats it.

the rating system is not the problem, the conzoomers who can't read for more than 2 minutes or think for more than 5 without a hot meal in their lap to keep their hands busy and subway surfer off to the side are the problem
Use your own ability to interpret the words they said about what the problems or qualities are and go from there
Trying to fixate on a number is literally the opposite of thinking
It doesn't even matter, its not like half of you actually speak with flesh and blood humans and get upset when they smile at a number rating while you hammer your fists on the table, right?
My favorite games are "6/10"s typically because at least them having problems that holds it back is more interesting to think about than whatever shitty story is written into it

      https://www.gamestar.de/artikel/starfield-test-steam-review,3399541.html
      >The only thing bigger than Starfield's ambitions is the wasted potential of the role-playing game. Nevertheless, there is a fun space trip in it.
      >It suits you if ...
      > ... you devour Bethesda role-playing games in all forms.

      > ... you liked the direction of Fallout 4.

          Anonymous

Yeah, this is the oddest part of all this.

We have had so many space games over the last 10 years which clearly demonstrate that the concept of an open world space game is not fun. Partly because true space is boring and partly because the cost of a giant open world seamless universe with meaningful content is too expensive to make.

Starfield is a scifi game, and instead of wasting time flying from A to B it teleports you, it works and its efficient. I don't understand why people want a 5 minute loading screen where you fly your ship from A to B. It literally takes half an hour in Elite to fly from two close stations, 10-15m in Star Citizen, 5-30m in NMS.

          Anonymous

while I do like space sim mechanics because I absolute LOVED Elite, even I can understand why bethesda chose the route they went with. It's a lot more fun to get to the action than to fly your ship in a straight line for 15 minutes to then spend another 15 minutes lining up with a planet just to land.

        Anonymous

So people's complaints are that it is too much like a Bethesda game and not enough like NMS? Just play NMS then what the frick this isn't a criticism. This is like saying " well the guns don't feel as good as call of duty so it's not a very good game"

Xbox games lack that Sony bonus. It’s that simple. Nintendo has it, Sony has it, Microsoft doesn’t. A Microsoft game has to be an absolute masterpiece, absolute perfection, to score above 90. And of course, forget about a MS game getting any GOTY ever.

Just be aware of that when checking the reviews and you’ll be less disappointed in those “journalists”.

Your assessment is about accurate with the exception ER still manages to be of poorer construction than most of said bland open world slop. But your take is for the most part in tune with reality. Most of the discussion of reviews is just a 3rd world hyena shit show.

Sony funding and managing productions so they are exclusives on their platforms is 'adding' to gaming. It isn't taking anything away.

No that was never "proven" in a court of law.
Square Enix decided that they wanted specific support from Sony's engineers and that resulted in them making the game exclusive so they could make it focused.
It is true that Microsoft complained about the deal but that doesn't mean Microsoft was correct. Especially since they had already bought Bethesda at that point.

I think the bigger moron is the one who isn't a dev, intentionally disbelieving the dev in question's own words.

its basically the same thing because of fomo. if people can't buy these massive AAA games at release then they might not play them at all.

I mean sure for you maybe. But for the industry at large locking down free agents to be controlled by Microsoft's business culture as opposed to some games being exclusive for a short while sometimes, is not really the same.

                >That wasn't proven. The only thing that Sony tried to do was to make "TIMED" exclusivity deals for games
It's only known that sony tried to make starfield exclusive to playstation, we don't know any details

This is true. But I'd say the prior deals were indicative of what sort of relationship that would be.

That wasn't proven. The only thing that Sony tried to do was to make "TIMED" exclusivity deals for games. Just like they did with Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo.
The TIMED exclusivity element it the primary thing that distinguishes the two and why one is worse than the other by a significant margin.

That still doesnt mean the statement is wrong.

        How has Sony been worse?
Sony funding and managing productions so they are exclusives on their platforms is 'adding' to gaming. It isn't taking anything away.
But Microsoft is literally buying out publishers and demanding that they scrap their playstation versions.
PlayStation isn't doing that. Bungie is still releasing Marathon on Xbox.

MS makes games available on two platforms at launch while sony usually makes them exclusive to their platform at launch to get the launch sales. it's objectively better for consumer choice

I'm just baffled at his ramblings about how he's wanted to make this type of game for decades and NOW is the time the technology allows for it... Todd wanted to make Fallout 3 (Oblivion with guns) with an aerial combat minigame all long? it wasn't possible on 7th or 8th gen??? wtf is he smoking? there were plenty of open world games with flight on those consoles.

I suspect it's really that Bethesda employees were sick of the same two tired settings (especially the generic fantasy movie trope collection that is Elder Scrolls, visually speaking) and giving them this project as an act of compassion. same template, different coat of paint.

I’d say RPG purists are the worst. There’s more literal “role playing” in Bethesda games (especially with mods) than there are in the beloved RPGs by FromSoft. I’ll never understand how anyone can find desolate open worlds with minimal lore, other than obscure ramblings from NPCs and scribblings, to be more immersive than Bethesda RPGs.

        Anonymous

No one genuinely considers Souls games RPGs in anything but arbitrary name only. Bethesda games are shit RPGs-cum-normie shooters where the combat blows and is sandwiched between looting pots and pans (why?) and clicking speech checks. FromSoft's games are a million times more immersive simply by virtue of the voice acting not being embarrassing, and the NPCs not being constantly fused into the world geometry.

Installed it, spent forty minutes in the character creator fighting the Black person/fat sliders to create Dick Cheney, ran around the starting area punching people (who all failed to react appropriately, given my apparent madness after contacting an alien artifact), noticed all of the dialog options are fake and just cause the NPCs to correct you and then proceed with the story on rails, refunded

You legitimately made a great character though. Looks sick.

Gamespot reviewer is the homosexual who called TLOU2 the game of the decade for being progressive, and shilled Horizon 2.

    >Gunplay looks as pedestrian and lifeless as one could physically imagine it being
    >Enemies in literally 100% of encounters shown off have almost zero situational AI and literally just run forward into the player or stand completely still behind whatever "cover" their model was placed behind
    >Planets are full to the brim with actual copypasted bases, fauna, flora, and periodically even the actual loot in chests are repeated in the copypasted environments
    >Literally not one feature of the game seems to be explored with any depth beyond shipbuilding
    >Base building is prohibitively resource-intensive insofar as they want you to not have enough time to reach the ceiling before the review window is over
    >Glitches that go all the way back to Oblivion have already been found in numerous review copies
    >Performance factually has been shown to be abysmal and optimization literally winds up ignored in favor of gwafix
How is this game supposed to be a 10/10?
