Seven is the safe score. Six is too low because once everyone plays it and sees how good it is they'll bring up their shit score. If they go an 8 or higher they'll get shit from their "journo" peers for being too high.
Their journo peers all gave it an 8 or higher, from Game Informer to Gamespot.
They gave it a safe 7-8 because they are also afraid of losing Sony backing despite hating the product. Notice how the only outlets who gave a 6 and below were literal whos not affiliated with any big companies.

The only thing surprising about any of this is that it was the Frenchman that penalized the game for sexual content.
Just because something is dramatic, does not make it more entertaining or a "better" video game.
The number doesn't mean anything. I guarantee the games they claim have good story, are generic, if not terrible in the gameplay department. This reviewer gave those story games higher scores, even though they are objectively worse games.
I could not care less about story or what some journalist thinks is a "complex" character. TLOU was unplayable for me. The gameplay is boring and the game sucks ass compared to what else was available to play at launch. I already played Gears of War in high school. That was coop. That game was way more fun, and also came out 10 years earlier. RE4 was way more fun, and that was on the fricking Nintendo Shitcube.
TLOU is using 20 year old gameplay to tell a story. That game has won tons of awards. What a load of crap.
