Again, PoE is by far the most popular ARPG game, it copied heavily from D2, they know about PoE, but I have to assume there was a business decision to not take anything in from PoE at all

My theory is that it's because they know consoles can't load anything beyond that field of view without serious performance issues so they just forced it on PC too. They let it zoom out for World Bosses because your confined to a smaller area.
They noticed by other ARPGs that people like to play really zoomed out so they can understand what's going on. So they disabled the ability to do that because they know better than you. You wanna zoom out? Well, you're wrong.
It's legitimately amazing how sadistic these devs are. You can be sure they do this shit on purpose. It was the same in D3, where they would write blog posts explaining their moronic, unpopular design decisions with things like "we know you wanted us to do X, so we didn't do it because we wanted to do something original". Again, it's amazing. I want to punch all of them in the face.
This shit would not be tolerated if these games weren't digital products that can be distributed without any face-to-face interactions with the customers.

arpg/hack n slash games are most engaging when you can just right click on enemies and basic attack them to death with fifty different stacking on-attack effects. If the game requires you to press literally any button other than right click, it's a shit fricking game.
Not to mention the awful fricking graphics, ui design, sound design, animations, et al.
