The shittiest part about growing up is that I finally understand all those stories about humans willingly marching to their death knowing they're going to die and just not giving a shit. Even with no god to worship, I understand it. I imagine that it was easier to come to this conclusion at a younger age back in medieval times when the quality of living meant you were going to suffer agony at an older age anyway. They had no aspirin to subside the working pains either lol, just weak alcohol, music, peasant food and the will to endure another day. People wonder how we can work harder than they did yet forget we have all these distractions and drugs to numb our suffering.

Nah I think it's the opposite. People's lives back then were much easier than ours because they had more fulfilling things to look forward to. Church (that you wholeheartedly believed in), strong communities, beautiful nature all around them, close and extended family that all live within walking distance of each other. Whenever you hear of some guy in a chinese shithole working 70 hours a week and sleeping in a cage they always say how they do it for their families. On the other side what do you have to look forward to? Empty entertainment on your computer, decent food, and a comfy bed. Literally nothing else.
