What difficulty should I go for? I'm down for a challenge, but not something that i will have to bash my head against the wall for 3+ hours in the same zone.

It's one of the best examples of sandbox-type gameplay in classic CRPGs. There's a lot of towns, NPCs, sidequests, etc. Slightly upgraded mechanics over the first game. That said, 1 has the better, more straightforward story and a more consistent tone. 2 does have some jokey stuff and references, but honestly they're few and far between.

I am the eldest zoomer on this board and this game is fun, I think I'll give it another replay soon
Fallout 1 is better.
it gets by on its aesthetic and humor, gameplay is eh. youd be better off playing wasteland 2 or 3

Start with F1 they are very similar in terms of gameplay. But story will make a little more sense to you if you start from the beginning.
F2 is a superior starting place for newcomers, F1 feels more expert
Fallout 2 is the worst fallout by far. Both gameplay and writing is horrible. Skip it.
It's good. Aside from the Enclave, FO1 does everything better. FO3 failed to live up to the legacy of either game while FNV surpassed it in every regard.

It has that thing typical of old games where at certain points of the game you have no fricking idea what to do. And I don't mean an idiot marker like skyrim I mean nowhere does the game give you any fricking clue as to what you need to do.
I liked the first plotwise. I cant get my head around how in 2 the US government persisted for god knows how many hundred years manifesting only in a psychotic paramilitary unit. Like, what?
