My issue with the game awards is that they very obviously show bias towards M rated games and against non-M rated games. Virtually every single game of the year winner has been an M rated game and M rated games get the vast majority of awards overall, with non-M rated games mainly getting less important ones like "best family game"
I know why they do this. Because if you want to make a story for adults, it's probably going to need an M rating. So from a story perspective, you should expect M rated games to be better. But this logic falls apart because the vast majority of video games are not story focused, and most people aren't playing games for the story. A game can even be designed for an adult audience and have an E rating. Pikmin 4 is a great example. It's a game designed specifically for adults. The entire game is designed around efficiency and micromanagement. These aren't things kids enjoy. Whereas for an adult man with decades of experience in games, trying to get all the platinum medals by perfectly organizing unit movements is exhilarating.
As a result, it feels like the show is made by people unfamiliar with the medium who are just here for the money, which it is.

It's the superbowl for video games and only an American mind can enjoy this low level form of entertainment. The live show started at 1:00 am european time because they knew that even if they shifted the time frame to make it a more global event still only Americans would watch it.

Award shows are always fricking gay, and this one tops the list also why the frick is Doritos Pope the one organizing it all, I don't remember there being gay award shows in the past for video games, you just noticed that at some point every game had a "game of the year" version, I thought it was just a meaningless marketing thing.
There were, they all died, now there are like 10s of award shows now. Mostly independent, because this is what happens when you sell out to get a bigger audience, you get complete garbage.
Magazines usually had awards, but nothing was particularly notorious. The Spike TV ones were pretty popular so once that ended Geoff decided to create something better.

Many are upset because they "parallel" the award with the game industry's crunch time and post tweets for the sake of virtue points. They also don't understand how speech timers work because they've never had to work in a professional field that gives speeches, debates or talks.
My only issue was the show being a bit too long with too much shown. They can cut back the amount of revealed premiers and extras. They had around roughly 70-75 things shown? Some were just DLC announcements and updates and I think they could focus it on more premier stuff and larger scope DLC's with a minor segments on indies between. For instance, Guilty Gear is fine and all to me, I like fighting games, but a character reveal and a game mode doesn't seem VGA worthy. That could have been shown off at some other fighting game event or just on a normal day like they usually do. I'd say they could cut down on revealed trailers to around 50 items. Assuming a trailer is at least a minute each that would save them like a half hour. If there is going to be a presentation from a speaker or musical, then plan a segment tp be around 4~6 minutes or so if they plan on doing anything showy. They don't need a celebrity or game developer talk longer than 4 minutes either.
