I think you'll like the game, it can be really comfy just making progress through quests and chasing long-term goals. I'm just warning you that you're starting what is now over 10 years of built up content. I don't think you'll finish the MSQ by the time FF16 comes out if that's your goal OP.
I'm trying to play through the entire series minus XI before XVI I beat I & II in 3 days but III is a slogfest, I keep falling asleep while playing. My plan for XIV is just finish ARR MSQ with my Balmung sex tourisim alt and move on to XV before the next patch drops.

XV guide: play the game until roughly six hours in, at that point you will stay overnight at some beach side hotel. turn off the game and watch the movie Kingsglaive. I love it unironically. It fills in the story. From that point onwards ignore every side quest. just play the main quests, the game is easy as frick once you learn how to play you don't need to waste your time on terrible designed side quests.
I was doing the same thing, have been stuck on V for 35 hours because it's infinitely more fun than the rest of the games. I'll get thru VI at least but I don't think I'll finish a 3D title, maybe it's for the best.
5 is by far my favorite. You should try some challenge runs if you ever decide to play it again. The game is way too easy by default and you'll never use some of the niche and bad jobs in a normal playthrough.

I play XII ever now and then too, I find the gambit system fun and the Zodiac job system is probably the closest we will ever get to a 3D V.

I started about 8 months back and it took me ages just getting through the full story, before even worrying about anything else. But for a new player, you should look into joining the Novice Network, since you'll probably wind up with a bunch of random questions about how quests or gearing or abilities work, and they'll be able to help you. Rather than relying on Ganker where half the posts will be shitposts or some random autist desperately trying to claim the game is somehow dead (despite doing better than ever).

The story is really overrated. The magic of it is that it's insanely long meaning the people that would rightfully criticize it get filtered out early so you're mostly left with cult-like fanatics to discuss it with.
Really ask yourself why you want to play the game. If it's truly just to "prepare" for FFXVI then that's moronic for obvious reasons. If you're looking for a good story there are plenty of better games, movies, books, or TV shows out there. If you're looking for good gameplay you should probably stick to WoW or something. If you're just looking for a casual game to waste the next few years of your life on then this is the game for you.

In fact, the only time I remember interacting with the refugees outside of uldah was some quests where we were looking for a criminal. The WoL and Scions seem to be classists who only do quests for wealthy business owners and politicians

There are areas outside of city-state control like Mor Dhona, Yafaem, or Dravania that they could have gone to and been completely independent. They went to Ul'dah because Ul'dah has money and they wanted to petition the other states to win Ala Mhigo back.

Refugees are not an easy solution. There is not enough land to colonize in Uldah. Also, I have a friend IRL who was hesitant to try it, and finally did a month back. They are finishing up Heavensward and moving onto Stormblood, and agreed with what I have told other anons over the years that I will pass onto you:
A Realm Reborn is the worst part of the game. If you don't let it filter you, it absolutely takes a qualitative turn for the better in and after Heavensward.
I have more hours than I’d like to admit on xiv, you’ll probably enjoy it id you like comfy games and don’t let the giant bland meatloaf of a main quest filter you.
I think he'll open a gate and bring a chunk of the void to the source rather than a proper rejoining. We need new zones for 7.0 and I expect him to create them. Either Ilsabard or Meracydia will get covered in void jizz or he'll make a new island entirely. Personally I think Ilsabard would be the best since it will finally give us an excuse to properly explore it and remove that shitty fog from the world map.
7.0 zones will be Meracydia and New World. They dont need to make up new stuff, plenty of space in those areas for the expac.

Golbez will be half successful. He won't cause a proper rejoining, but will ferry over enough voidsent into the lifestream that causes it to become sick. The 13th will still be a void. Then, in the next expansion, we have to heal the lifestream.
Bringing life back to the void would be pointless for an entire expansion because of the timescale needed to do it. Norvrandt at least had some culture left, you'd be starting with plants and at best, fish for the 13th unless you went full Ancient and started concepting shit out of thin air.

Okay, so? Aetherical contamination is localized, the Lifestream is cosmological. Dying Voidsent would locally contaminate the Aetherical balance on the source, but the souls going to the Lifestream doesn't pollute the Lifestream itself. If the Lifestream itself could be poisoned, it would have already happend given the events of Endwalker. The Lifestream dried up some in the wake of Birb's big ass damn, but we didn't see any corruption, which certainly would have happened if it could have in the face of what happens to all the other worlds.

It is pretty fun. I've only been playing on an off for a year myself and just finished Blood Storm/Ivalice/Omega stuff. Biggest number most important piece of advice I can give you. For the love of God DO NOT RUSH. There is no "end game" to dash to the finish. The game is pretty much a 11/10 FF title with how immersive and massive the world is. The story is solid and even the side stuff is interesting (After ARR that is a fricking slog but bare through it). The music is absolutely mind blowing. The game has a decade of content to bukkake over you and there is metric shitloads of stuff to rabbit hole you for weeks and months. So again, do not rush to cap and blast past the story to "get to the good part". The whole game is the good part. [Spoiler]After ARR holyshit that was a grind but HeavensWard more then compensates[/spoiler]

Yeah blind is the way to go. Unless you are running into a brick wall which typically only happens on the savage versions of the same content. In which case peeking the guide isn't just helpful it also reduces a lot of stress on your party. That Ivalice raid aside I don't think there is any main story content I was not able to force my way through. After which I do watch the guides because I want to know the best way to handle it if it gets thrown in my duty finder.
He/She I was able to do blind and am very thankful for that. Almost all of Omega is just endless nostalgic hand jobs for all the older titles. The ghost train was my favorite.

It's actually amazing that Square hasn't changed ARR since it's very well known to not be very good and literally filters people because they don't know it doesn't actually get good until the first expansion. Wonder how many actual players have been lost to that?
Found the most sloggish part of ARR to be post which I heard they had toned down by the time I'd done it. I'm a masochist who does every single side quest regardless of how shitty it was designed because outstanding quest markers drive me up a fricking wall.
Not him, but I've done very single side quest in the entire game. They also drive me nuts to see them sitting there.
What I didn't do is any of the Ultimates, and a few of the Extremes. That's the only content I have left, but I'm not sure I care enough to do them.
I don't particularly care what you believe, it's super easy to do as you level alts. If nobody did them, Square wouldn't waste resources on still making them in current expansions/post-game.

I watched every single episode of one piece and all the movies without skipped a single filler. Do not underestimate how much punishment I can take. I also played XI for 7 years if that is any indicator.

The Ea never said how long we had left, they deliberately refused to because it would "upset" us. And considering they are immortal, even eons if it were that long wouldnt feel like much time.
It was also the fact that everything they've ever strived for would be be meaningless in the end as once the universe froze over forever there weren't gonna be anyone in the future who'd ever carry on their legacy. So they just thought "well why bother with any of this shit then" and an hero'd.
I quit XIV for a year and a half. Happened to catch a stream of someone playing Heavensward, saw the story actually goes someplace cool, then clenched my teeth and dealt with ARR to get to the good part.
If I didn't happen to see that stream, probably would've forever dropped 14 because of ARR.

So, what kind of game design is this? You'd think such freedom would lead to more varied job and encounter design, but it doesn't. I really don't understand the goal behind this design, especially when every role bar melee DPS shares one set of gear within their role.
I imagine they're gonna perfect 2 minute meta even more, rework classes more into the 2 minute meta, and find a way to more or less remove 2 buttons from each class.
Then they're gonna add 2 actions that you pick from, role dependant somewhat a la bozjan lost action, and progression after 99 will be customizing/adquring these actions to make progression a little more horizontal, and then begin a new balance threadmill from ther once 2 minute has been perfected
every single class rework has been made to attune it, theres 0 reason they need to make more work for themselves in throwing all of that out; the game isn't quite in "frick with core combat design to make more work for themselves" age of the game yet

It's literally "Just play it for 300 hours then it starts to get good". And, it really does if you survive through ARR and most of Heavensward. But man you have to suffer through a lot of shit to get to that point. It's not something I'd recommend any casually dabble in. I play the game, and I enjoy it, but I'd never recommend it to anyone because of that first month of pain.

Except all of the raids are like this. This isn't a recent change, they've retooled jobs to fit into the way fights have been designed since fricking coils.
I wish it was the other way around and that they could have made more fights that greatly favored 180s burst and rush/delay timelines but this is what you get then 3/4 of the dev team has been rerouted to another game. They're changing everything to put the game into maintenance mode, it's a lot easier for a single dude to crunch the numbers when every single job plays the same and is within 0.5% tolerance of each other damage-wise.

The music is symbolic of the journey that brought you there and the reason you're fighting. That's also why they constantly reference song titles and lyrics throughout EW's dialogue. And why she's the EndSINGER.

Til you reach 90. Doing 3 tribe quests daily offer a good amount. You can those those along with your roulettes to hit the lvl cap. I usually do them while I’m in queue
the exp from the beast tribes scales
but you can only do 3 a day, or 6 if you rank up that day because the quests reset after ranking up
also, Deep Dungeons are always a good way to level up, so you could also spam Eureka Orthos

The entire second part of the Bozja storyline that now isn't happening because Gabranth died on the way back to his home planet.

They came in and started posting leaked private DM's from somebody's personal discord they snuck into to "prove" that people are "derailing" their threads by coming in and disagreeing with them. Which is a literal crime btw.
I reported them to a live chat agent at SE and told showed them the posts and said I will be holding them legallly accountable if they don't not only remove the posts, but also ban the Trancer homosexuals sharing them around. They swiftly went in and nuked the posts, but the Trancers have yet to be banned. According to the GM they're still "investigating" after it was escalated to "another department". But yeah Aveyond and co finally crossed a line and I'll be making sure they're banned for good after this. They literally commited a crime (assuming those were, in fact, from a private discord. I investigated and could not find any publically leaked discord from the user they were using the keaks as "proof" against, only 2 public discords shared on the forums and none of which contained the posts in the leaks, meaning they either forged them or somehow infiltrated a private discord and illegally disseminated private messages around ontop of using said private mesages to harass the victims).
Tho they have yet to be banned, the fact that the GM very clearly took it seriously as they immediately nuked the posts after I showed it to them makes it pretty likely they will be. I told the GM to ban them ingame not just on the forums too. If they don't ban them for it they are essentially condoning people going around sharing private DMs and inciting harassment on their forums which makes SE legally liable so they will almost certainly nuke the Trancer homosexuals for this if only to cover their own asses from legal action.
I mean Materia GM's are turning a blind eye to a literal child groomer so I dunno maybe they are that moronic enough to not punish them for this. But since they immediately removed the offending posts then they have already acknowledged that they violated the rules if not the law else they wouldnt remove them. I'm trying to play through the entire series minus XI before XVI I beat I & II in 3 days but III is a slogfest, I keep falling asleep while playing. My plan for XIV is just finish ARR MSQ with my Balmung sex tourisim alt and move on to XV before the next patch drops.

XV guide: play the game until roughly six hours in, at that point you will stay overnight at some beach side hotel. turn off the game and watch the movie Kingsglaive. I love it unironically. It fills in the story. From that point onwards ignore every side quest. just play the main quests, the game is easy as frick once you learn how to play you don't need to waste your time on terrible designed side quests.

I was doing the same thing, have been stuck on V for 35 hours because it's infinitely more fun than the rest of the games. I'll get thru VI at least but I don't think I'll finish a 3D title, maybe it's for the best.
5 is by far my favorite. You should try some challenge runs if you ever decide to play it again. The game is way too easy by default and you'll never use some of the niche and bad jobs in a normal playthrough.

I play XII ever now and then too, I find the gambit system fun and the Zodiac job system is probably the closest we will ever get to a 3D V.

I started about 8 months back and it took me ages just getting through the full story, before even worrying about anything else. But for a new player, you should look into joining the Novice Network, since you'll probably wind up with a bunch of random questions about how quests or gearing or abilities work, and they'll be able to help you. Rather than relying on Ganker where half the posts will be shitposts or some random autist desperately trying to claim the game is somehow dead (despite doing better than ever).

The story is really overrated. The magic of it is that it's insanely long meaning the people that would rightfully criticize it get filtered out early so you're mostly left with cult-like fanatics to discuss it with.
Really ask yourself why you want to play the game. If it's truly just to "prepare" for FFXVI then that's moronic for obvious reasons. If you're looking for a good story there are plenty of better games, movies, books, or TV shows out there. If you're looking for good gameplay you should probably stick to WoW or something. I think he'll open a gate and bring a chunk of the void to the source rather than a proper rejoining. We need new zones for 7.0 and I expect him to create them. Either Ilsabard or Meracydia will get covered in void jizz or he'll make a new island entirely. Personally I think Ilsabard would be the best since it will finally give us an excuse to properly explore it and remove that shitty fog from the world map.

Dying Voidsent would locally contaminate the Aetherical balance on the source, but the souls going to the Lifestream doesn't pollute the Lifestream itself. If the Lifestream itself could be poisoned, it would have already happend given the events of Endwalker. The Lifestream dried up some in the wake of Birb's big ass damn, but we didn't see any corruption, which certainly would have happened if it could have in the face of what happens to all the other worlds.

It is pretty fun. I've only been playing on an off for a year myself and just finished Blood Storm/Ivalice/Omega stuff. Biggest number most important piece of advice I can give you. For the love of God DO NOT RUSH. There is no "end game" to dash to the finish. The game is pretty much a 11/10 FF title with how immersive and massive the world is. The story is solid and even the side stuff is interesting (After ARR that is a fricking slog but bare through it). The music is absolutely mind blowing. The game has a decade of content to bukkake over you and there is metric shitloads of stuff to rabbit hole you for weeks and months. So again, do not rush to cap and blast past the story to "get to the good part". The whole game is the good part. [Spoiler]After ARR holyshit that was a grind but HeavensWard more then compensates[/spoiler]
Also play Roegadyn since it is the best race.

Not going to lie. I got hard carried through that last Ivalice raid. I had no fricking IDEA how long and hard it was. I try to do all new content blind on tank since I don't want to be spoiled and enjoy the thrill of face tanking god knows what. This raid humbled my ass I died at least 10 times and I was so ashamed.
I wish I had the presence of mind to have done that when I first started leveling. I was a little babby b***h that looked up guides for everything and I robbed myself doing obornne blind. Still got my ass handed to me though and I'm glad that post nerf cid is still fricking people up real good. Obornne I feel is a perfectly good hard raid that the game doesn't throw often enough at you if you don't go looking for it
Yeah blind is the way to go. Unless you are running into a brick wall which typically only happens on the savage versions of the same content. In which case peeking the guide isn't just helpful it also reduces a lot of stress on your party. That Ivalice raid aside I don't think there is any main story content I was not able to force my way through. After which I do watch the guides because I want to know the best way to handle it if it gets thrown in my duty finder.

the ARR MSQ might be one of the worst questing experiences I've ever had. It finally got tolerable once I got into HW.
I quit XIV for a year and a half. Happened to catch a stream of someone playing Heavensward, saw the story actually goes someplace cool, then clenched my teeth and dealt with ARR to get to the good part.

I wish it was the other way around and that they could have made more fights that greatly favored 180s burst and rush/delay timelines but this is what you get then 3/4 of the dev team has been rerouted to another game. They're changing everything to put the game into maintenance mode, it's a lot easier for a single dude to crunch the numbers when every single job plays the same and is within 0.5% tolerance of each other damage-wise.

I reported them to a live chat agent at SE and told showed them the posts and said I will be holding them legallly accountable if they don't not only remove the posts, but also ban the Trancer homosexuals sharing them around. They swiftly went in and nuked the posts, but the Trancers have yet to be banned. According to the GM they're still "investigating" after it was escalated to "another department". But yeah Aveyond and co finally crossed a line and I'll be making sure they're banned for good after this. They literally commited a crime (assuming those were, in fact, from a private discord. I investigated and could not find any publically leaked discord from the user they were using the keaks as "proof" against, only 2 public discords shared on the forums and none of which contained the posts in the leaks, meaning they either forged them or somehow infiltrated a private discord and illegally disseminated private messages around ontop of using said private mesages to harass the victims).
Tho they have yet to be banned, the fact that the GM very clearly took it seriously as they immediately nuked the posts after I showed it to them makes it pretty likely they will be. I told the GM to ban them ingame not just on the forums too. If they don't ban them for it they are essentially condoning people going around sharing private DMs and inciting harassment on their forums which makes SE legally liable so they will almost certainly nuke the Trancer homosexuals for this if only to cover their own asses from legal action.
