Now? Not much. The magic of these games was playing them at their given time. Pre-GE runescape, when you were a kid and still had your childlike wonder, no min-maxing, no wikis, etc. Not much point playing them now, the magic is gone, unironically you had to be there.

I'm 30 and I've never played Minecraft, but Runescape is based. I remember the day we got it banned in elementary school because a teacher heard we killed a guard.

RuneScape was cool over twenty years ago when it was one of the first online games I played. Minecraft was nothing special.
I think sadly both games will be disappointments for you. Runescape was fricking kino back in the day because people still had the imagination to feel like they were mastering a skill after all the grinding. In this modern age of instant gratification, where every level-up throws a party for you and gives you a million shiny new things, Runescape with its simple system may not have the same feeling of reeadd. The writing is still 10/10 and the quests are fun but most of the time spent in oldschool Runescape is grinding.
Minecraft has probably aged better but again old Minecraft was a much simpler game that relied on the player imagining themselves as a survivor/explorer/builder. Modern Minecraft has way more bells and whistles in it, more like a theme park ride. If you're used to that now you might find old Minecraft a bit empty.
I agree with you on all points anon. For me runescape is unplayable in its current form. Kid me loved logging in with my friends, but adult me just sees it as work.
Minecraft is similar in some ways but I like to use it as a creative outlet. Building and designing all aspects of my house is very fun for me, but I'm constantly hitting walls with mojangs pants-on-head-moronic game design. Maybe just a bit of mods would do a lot for me.
oldschool runescape is i think one of those games like the classic pokemon games, where you probably had to play it back in the day or as a kid to get it, and to get how special they were at the time and how huge and expansive and mindblowing they were

Also since I rarely get the chance to ramble about RS. I just want to add something else I thought was funny. Being a F2P noob in Runescape in 2005, seeing someone with full Rune was like seeing a prince. It's hilarious because Bronze to Rune were LITERALLY just recolours of the same equipment with better stats. The most basic changes, and yet the dopamine hit you got getting a new weapon or piece of armour was bigger than anything you get when a modern game gives you a a new over-designed flaming sword the size of a person every ten seconds. I guess because back then you still believed that it had meaning, you believed the game when it told you this weapon with a different colour was important, you BELIEVED in the game. And then of course you discover Dragon armour and your mind is blown because the armour actually looks slightly different, crazy!

The most boring of combat stretched out way more for endless grinding for a few number buffs for autistic meta chasers to go fricking hard in pbp.
