Yep. I don't get why they thought EW was a natural evolution to ShB. If their ultimate ambition was to tell the same exact shonen power of friendship story that we've seen thousands of times by this point, then I don't see why they even bothered wrapping this arc up. ShB had an infinitely more interesting story and conclusion, and honestly it wouldn't have made me angry if XIV ended there.
But to then have Yoshi P go all like "But the story would be better if it became an anime", I just don't get why he would ever think this. XIV was unique and different from every other JRPG story with how it bent tropes in interesting ways to make a wonderfully unique story, but now that story has been ruined and it's now among the most generic in the genre.

If the story had ended with 5.3, XIV would have indisputably gone down as one of the greatest FFs. If they had to do EW, rather than pinpointing and killing the cause of the Final Days it should have never been explained it should have been about taking on Zodiark's power to save Hydaelyn from Zenos.
5.3 MSQ is overrated and the patch is the exact moment XIV sold out.

I actually feel like this, like maybe Endwalker is a great stopping point in my FFXIV experience so I don't have to feel like I'm too invested into the new arc and having to continue putting up with how sterile the game feels now

FFXIV's lack of a voiced protagonist with their own personality, motivations, agency, and any canonical romance with other characters is the primary problem with the story. On a fundamental level the WOL fails as a protagonist, but the story is written as if he is one, which makes it fall flat in so many aspects.

And FFXIV is written as if the WOL isn't a mute autist, the story (especially since Ishikawa took over) treats him as if he's an actual character, but he isn't and that's the problem. When your lead literally can't fricking talk, it fricks your ability to tell a story around them in so many ways. That's why the Scions are just exposition machines and who the WOL never forms any convincing relationship with, because he can't talk with them, he can't banter with them, he can't disagree with them in any way. He can't speak himself so he needs the Scions to speak for him and explain everything that's going on at all times, and becaues he has zero personal agency, motives, or personality, he's just this blank slate who can't do anything besides nod at whatever they tell him to do.
And rather than write around this like other MMOs do (by just not having a covential story but focusing on the world and treating you but one of many adventurers and letting you make up you rown storie), they just write it as if it isn't this way and leads to a story that can never compare to one with a proper protagonist, one with his own motives, his own origins, his own wants and desires, his own personality, his own agency, and his own voice.
The narrative arc of the mute warrior of light, is not one of bombastic heroism, but rather a quiet exploration of the human condition. Through the lens of his silence, we are implored to ponder the ineffable mysteries of existence, to confront our own fears and aspirations with a sense of humility and grace. Do the writing team actually think post-EW was good? Did they not see how negative the feedback was from the playerbase? I don't think I've seen a single comment praising it. Even Preach, who's praised the story through all it's highs and lows (even loved ARR) said post-EW was "too cheesy" for him, with how it handled Golbez's redemption and the entire gay ass "MUH SISTER" plot, and how even for FFXIV it was too much "power of friendship" cringe.
Like there is zero fricking defense for the Tower PTSD plot-derailment that happened not once, but TWICE. If this is the standard of writing we can expect for Dawntrail than it's over.

The patch series was written by the underlings from what they've told us, there is another person/team writing DT. I feel as if they were too timid, they didn't want to commit to a full 5 patch buildup to DT and instead elevated the trial series into the MSQ and said hey enjoy.

I hate this thing the game does in cutscenes when you have dialogue options, and after picking one your character just autistically flaps their mouth without saying anything for 5 seconds. It looks idiotic. Baldurs Gate 3 handled this better by just immediately skipping to the NPC's response after you select a dialogue option.
I loved ffxiv when i started in shadowbringers in 2020.
Now the game feels boring as frick. Don't care to find another static, but all the regular dungeons are boring as hell. There's zero guild/fc content aside from roleplaying and hosting made up events. Nobody talks to each other in party finder and it feels more like a chore than anything. All the endgame content kinda blows and is locked behind a second part time job of waiting for mechanics to resolve and pressing the same buttons as they light up every 2 minutes. Every class feels like a homogenized mess of oversimplification. All the gear is the same garbage with slightly higher numbers.
FFXIV really is just write off mounts off a checklist simulator now. it blows. I don't know what they could possibly do to rekindle the spark. but 8 trials 12 raids 3 alliance raids and a handful of hallways just isn't gonna cut it this time around.

I'm genuinely curious what content the "endwalker bad" people actually do, because it sure as hell isn't pve. The only bad content in this expansion was the post 6.0 story, and the alliance raids (which were great thematically, just had shit fights which these people don't seem to care about because of all the above)
I was worried about Dawntrail initially because the story after 6.0 was pretty weak. But going into it knowing the raids will be great and eden ultimate will be incredible, its sure to be at least good content wise.

Its legit the player issue. They played it so much they are bored by it now or burnt out. Nothing the game changes will keep their interest. They don't even miss the old versions of the game like they will claim. They just miss the point in their life they were at then and the people/friendships they enjoyed the game with back then.
From observing these threads it seems to me like what they actually want is casual grind content in relics, Eureka-likes and more side dungeons. I don't think those are bad things to have but they really only make a difference if you want veg out and only play XIV for long periods of time.

i disagree. banning GDKP is heavy handed and also a false solution to what is actually ailing the game mode. GDKP existed as far back as the original TBC from my own experience and is just a form of player engagement.
what would actually fix the issue is culling the bots and hard banning gold buyers. but that takes actual effort, so they're pretending to do something but chopping off one dead shoot when the entire vine needs to be cut.

Unless you know you need Earthly Star for something, use it on cooldown. If you see instances of party damage, use the star fart, the bubble, the Star, the Lady or Horoscope before casting Helios or Asp. Helios. Regens are better than direct heals. If you need extra emergency healing on tank, apply Synastry, it will proc on Benefics done to him effectively making it a 140% Benefic. Use Neutral Sect when you need to pump a lot of healing AND you're 100% sure you'll be casting GCD heals. Press Divination every 2 minutes unless the enemy is about to die. While ideally you should save at least two cards to synchronize them with Divination, unless it's an optimized setting where every inch of damage matters, you can just play cards on CD and use Astrodyne whenever available. 2 seal Astrodyne is good enough, don't sweat a triple.

Just know if you do start unlocking every job, your can say goodbye to free inventory space.
I feel like by the time you have them maxed though you just get rid of the older gear minus as an example I held onto my augmented cryptlurker scouting for Viper. But other than that, just trade it in for company seals or stick in glamour dresser.

Blue mage is a cringe limited job in this game but if you do end up playing it. You'll want to get someone to boost you to 70. You can get 70 to 80 solo using a certain method but just get an ability called Flying Sardine and then someone can boost.
It pales in comparison to the xi experience but it's still enjoyable. Unless you plan on doing all BLU alone.
Thing is to get with someone to level and get spells with, then planning rotation and how to cheese dungeons for more spells.
There's a recommended order like getting overworld spells first, specially 1000 needles first to one shot all sub 50 lvl content, but it's best blind.
You have plenty of time to try other roles+having tank/healer unlocked may come handy
Now, crafters and BLU are a different whole rabbit hole to go down through
If you know that melee is the role for you as a player, there's no harm in sticking with just that and specializing as a melee main.
If you are curious about the other roles it never hurts to try leveling a job from them to see if you like it, or to have it available.
Just stick to melee dps like the mhigger you are. Obvious you're Ul'Dah scum.

I don't care if its good. I care if its fun and rewarding to play. I'm worred that they will make the gameplay bad in an attempt to make it 'more accessible' like they did with SMN in EW.
I don't even think it was particularly bad early on, a lot of its tools made healing the first tier comfy (especially macro on P3S). I played it in all 3 tiers this expansion and I loved it.

Have you ever played healers in this game? They're boring and you spam the same GCD over and over. AST is the only healer with a bit going on this expansion but they're gonna def gut it and make the card a generic buff for Japanese players.
Yes its fun and rewarding because it has aspects that don't show up in the other healers.
No true mobility tools means you have to rely exclusively on dot refreshes and slidecasting to move. For movement-heavy mechanics it genuinely feels rewarding to execute without losing anything.
The cards keep its APM high and give it very active and busy 2m windows. Doing them when it coincides with mechanics is also very fun. Knowing all of the DPS jobs and how strong they are on 2m/1m burst windows to get the most from cards is just a fun minigame to top off the system.
Finally all the other CD usage is just a cut above what you get on other healers. Planning out and executing your cast timings on things like star, horoscope, and macrocosmos so they fall off in accordance with raid damage is a lot of fun and very rewarding especially when you're working against space and healing range on certain mechanics.
So yeah its not that complicated given it exists in the modern healing landscape, but its more complex and fun than WHM and SGE combined. Playing AST well on a fight gives much more of a dopamine hit than any of the DPS or other healers I play (which really don't even feel rewarding to play well since they're so much easier)

High APM =/= good design, the cards are busywork, you're fricking your 2m (which often coincides with raid-wide damage these days btw) throwing out small buffs just to produce less raid damage than WHM spamming glare. I agree that the healing abilities on AST are really cool and well designed but the cards are dogshit, it's forced complexity for the sake of busywork.

Black mage is untouchable. And Scholar is so broken at this point that any rework would probably do it some good.
Then again, after what they did to Summoner and Paladin, maybe they shouldn't touch it at all.
That reminds me, I've got an idea for a Paladin re-re-work that could un-frick it at least a bit while still keeping most of what we've got now.
First, I want the fricking DoT back. I hate that it was taken out in the first place. That goes for the Confiteor DoT, and Goring Blade.
When you finish your main combo, you should be able to spend your atonement stacks on atonement, or spend all three of them on a Goring Blade that does damage over time again for just long enough that you can get an actual Royal Authority and three Atonements off.
Second, Let us stack a few Holy Spirit casts to use during Requiescat, where they should gain the Req damage without using stacks. This way, we'd spend non-burst time saving up extra spells to use for the burst window, but you've got to be careful to only use how ever many you've saved up so you don't use a Req stack on Holy Spirit and waste a ton of Confiteor damage.
And finally, Atonement should break your combo. None of this 124443 bullshit so you don't waste any stacks right before a burst. I want my 123444 back. clean and easy.
Just doing this would make the class something I'd consider maining again, even if it's just as a third wheel when I feel like tanking.
a huge thing they could do for Pali is make shield bash not share a cast time with anything else. Also, give it raise.

Like what? and I didn't say doing that would be cheating. It's just that it would imbalance the utility of one tank above the rest, and groups would start to rely on it to not learn mechanics properly. Limit break is already used like this sometimes, but not often.
I miss Fight or Flight only increasing physical damage. It being separate from Requiescat felt like you had less downtime since you spent most of your time in different burst windows rather than stacking everything together.
I miss that too, but unless they have a change of heart on burst windows, we're probably not getting it back.
I guess what they could do is make Requiescat and Fight or Flight alternating buttons kind of like new-summoners Bahamut and Phoenix.
So you have Req on a 30 second cooldown, and it changes to Fight or flight after you use it.

I sympathize but at this point I've just accepted the reality. Stormblood Scholar was my favourite iteration since it was the perfect compromise between HW and what would come and Miasma II added a lot of nuance on its own. Shadowbringers was so unenjoyable I outright quit the game and came back shortly before EW released.
Despite current SCH being the the simplest iteration yet, it's ended up being a lot of fun to play and its abilities still offer more room for expression than its counterparts. I'm thankful I also get to play with a Sage main since it enables SCH even further rather than competing with it.

To be fair, Selene was worse than Eos on almost every situation and AoE Esuna had to be removed because there was one mechanic in one ultimate that actually required healers to Esuna.

SCHs issue is similar to AST in that a bunch of shit got gutted, not that it can't deal billions of damage you stupid motherfricker
The only point WHM was "bad" was creator, and only because it didn't require as much healing and 20% balance was nuts.
The lillies being useless on SB didn't stop everyone from running WHM because Omega had actual healing checks.
AST should have been Time Mage and never have cards on the first place.

1.5s cast times fundamentally made the interaction with Fey Union different. It's genuinely underrated since it's the highest potency single target HoT in the game that you have complete agency over the duration with. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it.
Dissipation for that matter too, since weaving stacks is free. It just filters people because the idea parts of your kit being locked out parts of your kit is an alien concept to about every other job in the game but there's nothing fundamentally wrong with how it's designed.

started the story last month and I'm halfway through endwalker now and this is my favorite expansion so far with shadowbringers in second, my only complaint is machinist is the only class in the game I enjoy so I have nothing else to swap to until these chegroes add another ranged dps

healers were ruined the nanosecond they added AST because with more then 2 healers they now compete with eachother. there's honestly a lot of cool healer mechanics endwalker added like sch go fast mode or whm being able to unironically act as a tank in dungeon pulls at 90 because misery/aoe burst healing builds tons of enmity and all your new/buffed cooldowns let you survive the dps but its spread very thin over 4 healers that at their core are very similar
nobody cared that sch was way better then whm back in arr because almost everyone was bringing both anyway, but then ast made it so people had to actually care about the power gap in healers because they were only going to pick 2/3 which led to years of whm/ast taking turns being in the shed (mostly whm lol) which led to the devs going enough is a enough and starting this trend of homogenization.
