I got the demo for this from Computer Gaming World back in like 1995. Was mesmerized by it. This cool anime stuff was so hard to come by for a poorgay back in the day.
>really want to love PowerDolls because it looks so fricking cool >no idea what to do >pick random gear until the game lets me start the first mission >no idea what to do. >everything takes FOREVER >still no idea what to do at the 3rd turn >quit the game in frustration
Happens to me every 5 years.
I think I'm a brainlet.
Outside of presentation Powerdolls was terrible. Enemies charged head first at you and there was no point to any of the systems. It's like a fake strategy game.
As someone who's played and beaten the game, it's worse than that.
First off, the game lies to you. It claims to allow you to fail a mission or two and continue onwards. And you can, to an extent. But having failures means you have less people, and the final mission is BARELY beatable with a full team. Beyond a certain point, the game will just fail you if you've had any failures up to that point. Meaning, fail a mission early, and you won't be able to reach the last mission. Fail a late mission, and you won't have the firepower to win.
Second, your main enemy is actually attrition. Your main goal at all times should be 1-shotting the enemy the moment they are visible, and getting out of the sight of any enemies still alive. You don't get back lost/injured pilots after the mission, only one every few missions, and it's possible you'll never get that pilot back before the game ends. Loosing a single pilot is a major problem, and one that can cripple you later on. Forget about the objectives, your mission is to keep everyone alive until the mission is over. Or be forced to load your old save later on and try again without the losses.
Third, most weapons are worthless for your main goal. The only weapons that can 1-shot 99% of enemies are the two missiles and the big caliber Auto-cannon. The downside is these weapons have very little ammo. The big missile only has 2 shots per mount point. and the other two weapons have less than 10 shots. Missing once or twice can be enough to completely frick you.
Also, difficulty curve is all over the fricking place. 2nd mission requires you to be an artillery expert to handle the numbers coming at you, and the third mission is possibly the most difficult mission in the game, where success or failure is almost dependent on RNG. I love Power DOLLS, but damn if the game isn't a broken mess.
>i want a strategy game where i dont need to strategise
OP needs to plat new SRWs then
playing warcraft 2 wasnt this number heavy
they could at least name the weapons with words instead of numbers
Power Dolls is Strategy, Warcraft is "strategy"
>Power Dolls is Strategy
Tactics, to be precise.
Warcraft at least has a simple economy and unit production, which are features of a strategy game.
I remember the movement system for this game being distinctly irritating in emulation. I got to mission 3? Good music and artstyle anyways
>using Smg
ngmi
i just screenshotted the defaults
crazy how good this looks. ive never played advanced power dolls but the soundtrack is incredible.

Are these games just a collage of pixel art or is there actual animation when you're playing it instead of a spreadsheet?
It's exactly like a 80s TT wargame. Hexes and all.
What's with those massive fricking thighs
load bearing if you know what I mean

Just sounds like you're impatient. That's really most issue people have.
Could be, but I'm usually a patient guy. It's the first game in which the low speed makes it excruciating to play for me. Even the mouse is slow.
Don't confuse mech and mecha.
That is probably a mech game.
moron
The wise knows what he says,
the fool says what he knows
looks cool op, the numbers don't fear

So it's like Jagged Alliance.
It's a beautiful rough draft that really needed fleshing out. Is the sequel any better?
No idea, I never got around to playing any of the sequels. I have them all downloaded, just haven't gotten around to them yet.
Do the sequels fix those issues?
>Lakers with it's worse than XCom tier accuracy rates is somehow a better tactical RPG than Power Dolls and Sakura Wars
>What's Fire Emblem?
>Tactical rpg
>What's Disgaea?
>Tactical rpg with e-girls
>What's Jeanne d'Arc for PSP?
>Tactical rpg
>What's CRW Metal Jacket?
>Tactical rpg

I don't care how many times you guys tell me to play FF Tactics, Langrisser or Front Mission. Imma go play Virtua Cop.
>Imma go play Virtua Cop.
Imagine a Virtua Cop SRPG tho, where you're controlling a SWAT team. Would be kino.
autists gonna autist, let them have a few games for the left-brained number types, they love it.
If you're only playing for the old school anime aesthetics and hate thinking you should be playing a VN instead
