Y6 was a rushed cash-grab tech demo for the flopped DE, and the RGG seriously had no idea what to do with the characters and story for the longest of time. Pretentious nugays love to shit on Y0, but it's the first time the series had a mostly cohesive, satisfying story and good, memorable characters from start to finish.
It prolly helps that Haruka wasn't even born yet during its story.
Handful of guys getting tangled in endless power struggles within the Japanese mafias, occasionally stepping into bigger conspiracies.

The entire franchise is a """ripoff""" of countless yakuza-themed films and novels from the past 50 years. The OG games were literal parodies, which is why their stories feel so flat and uninteresting: you're supposed to spot the references and feel "cool" playing those tropes yourself.
