I'm playing it for the first time. don't get me wrong, I like the game, but holy frick, why aren't there any teleports anywhere? why do I have to WALK back through several areas to do something? why aren't save positions more common?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

They built a bunch of shortcuts through the lava zone for that. Lava zone leads to half the other areas.

there's always a shortcut near where you need to go, outside of the end game artifact hunt on your first playthrough. Don't forget that and you won't be lost

the world is much smaller than what you can find in modern games and learning the optimal routes to reach your destination is part of the fun, it forces you to fully understand the layout of the map which creates an intimate bond between you and the game, Black person

You're an idiot who hasn't figured out the nuances to travel in the game yet. Just play more until you unlock the boost ball, then use it to move faster through the rooms.

primes greatest sin is that the enemies constantly respawn even though the combat is the weakest part of the game and takes too long even when visiting areas you've long since passed.
in contrast the 2d games let you one shot everything in a room by the endgame.

      >takes too long
even the chozo ghosts die in two super missiles in normal mode which means it takes 45 seconds to clear a room and you can just run past a lot of them

Playing the remake made me realize this. You only have to walk 2 rooms away to respawn shit. Made backtracking/ exploring more annoying.
Still, I fricking love it and I hope they actually do the same with MP2. MP3 I couldn't care less though.

      ?

Super missles then charged plasma one shot most enemies, fission metroids/colored space Pirates are one shot by power bomb

The only thing I thought was total, complete bullshit was the room before the final boss. Imagine having to platform the whole giant room with tanky-ass metroids fricking your shit up the whole way, knocking you off edges into damaging stuff.
You can't even just kill them and get on with it since they respawn more as soon as you kill them.

I've played every single Prime game on launch and honestly Prime 1 doesn't have a very good map layout and the shortcuts and backtracking are "just okay" compared to other games in the genre. Having to go through the very linear Magmoor Caverns or right up the ass end of Chozo Ruins just to get to a few key areas that need revisiting is just extremely tedious. Ice Beam + missles will annihilate most re-spawning Pirates but it does become quite a chore considering the combat isn't very interesting. I never really realized just how dry, flat and uninteresting the lore is either. The Space Pirates in-game are snarling monsters yet their log entries are written in the tone of some programmer at Retro Studios with aspergers who was asked to write lore pieces for 200 different little terminals and lab specimens. Some of the Chozo stuff is alright though, plot holes aside.

It's still a really good game but yeah, I dunno, not as good as I remember it being. I think we've all been spoiled by Lordran and its many amazing shortcuts and sneaky views of other areas. Prime is just a GameCube game with individually loaded cramped little rooms but it does a decent job at crafting a convincing world around that limitation.

if you miss a scan, are you fricked?

If it doesn't respawn, yes. Bosses are obvious but there's a few obnoxious ones you'd easily miss if you didn't autistically check everything constantly, like the special locked door entry that appears for one boss only in either prime or prime 2

Scans carry over between playthroughs, so you're not super fricked, but yeah you're fricked.

Is 100% logbook required to get the bonus scene at the end or just 100% items?

Does logbook unlock anything new in the remaster besides the art galleries, or is there any new art in said galleries?

          Just items.

There's new concept art for the remaster, but I forgot which unlocks which.

That's because Metroid Prime fricking sucks and it's designed to be as annoying as possible. No teleporters, unmarked elevators, and Samus controls slower than ever. People suck this game's wiener like crazy and it makes no sense. Don't get me started on the four different beams for no reason and scanning fricking everything.

This game sucked so bad I didn't want to give MP2 or 3 a chance. It just plays so sluggishly I refuse to even try them.

Fast travel completely kills the sense of adventure if the game just hands it to you. That said, there are a few areas in the game, where they should have designed shortcuts better. That's what makes the backtracking more tolerable in a game like this. There should have been a short cut from Phendrana right back to Talon Overworld, at the very least. having to Trek through Magmoor Caverns like three or four times was not the most engaging part of the game.

What sucks about Magmoor is that upgrades that are supposed to cut down traversal time like the Boost Ball are pretty much useless there. They should've opened some shortcuts for the late game treks at least.
