Sharpness wouldn't even be close making sceptile viable. What it really wants is to keep unburden and learn belly drum.

I’m surprise they didnt fix Sceptile already, They clearly live the Hoeen starters enough to give them megas, why would they take fan requests when buffing Sinnoh’s but leave sceptile as a shitmon, they clearly loved shilling it in the anime.
None of the Charizard forms were broken. They were strong but completely fine for both Smogon singles and VGC.
Sceptile is definitely the most wronged Hoenn starter at least in the competitive scene.

Gen 1's starters are all special-oriented, so it wouldn't be anything unheard of
Only Venusaur was special-oriented (100 special). Blastiose was defense oriented (100 defense ), and Charizard was speed (100 speed ). Charizard only became Special-oriented when it got 109 special attack in Gen 2 (boosted from 85 special)

Venusaur and Charizard both run physical sets sometimes.
Just give it more special moves and nasty plot, then Sceptile might be called buffed mon. Torterra was given only shell smash and it's one of the better grass starters now. I think about grass starters, top 3 for worst starters are: Meganium, Sceptile and Decidueye (both forms)
Hisuian Decidueye is above those starters for having an actual useful ability + spammable signature move

Early Bird is a useless outdated ability that doesn't change how a Pokemon functions like Unburden does, it's hardly the same thing. Shiftry also has 3 ability slots, one of the problem with starters is that they're limited to one "normal" ability.
agree sceptile doesn't need an ability change. also i don't think Gamefreak would be willing to give all the starters a second ability. if anything, they should change the hidden abilities for starters like samurott or meganium. their HAs are just a waste.

For Samurott I expect Supreme Overlord replacing Shell Armor in the future since the ability increases both offensive stats, and Kingambit doesn't make use of the special attack boost.

I think they were only willing to change Empoleon because Defiant and Competitive are basically the same ability, just with different stats. Unburden is too unique to change since you build entire sets around it.
