    >games in their own engine
Up until about 20 years ago game devs were actually smart and passionate software engineers capable of doing this. Now that gaming is in the worst state it's ever been in, nobody does it out of passion. Those smart software engineers are working regular jobs and just gaming as a hobby. OTS engines have lowered the bar to entry and so most devs now are just dropouts who have never heard the term "matrix multiplication".

Generalising, but there has been a huge shift in this direction over the last 20 years.

Let's see Paul Allen's game engine.
Look at that subtle off-white coloring.
        The tasteful lightweight of it.
Oh, my God. It even has a watermark.
        Is something wrong, Patrick ?

I'm following a pong tutorial to learn godot. I have a paddle which can move and has a collision box, and a wall with a collision box. for some reason when I move the paddle up to the wall it gets stuck and is unable to move down.

any ideas as to what could be causing this?

game maker is a subscription service and unity is now malware. what the frick else am I supposed to use?

Technically Unity isn't a malware YET but there's various frameworks like monogame, libgdx, sdl. I think construct had an editor if you need that.

            >doing pong tutorial
            >bro use a half engine like monogame!

I need to learn how to make games before switching to something that requires a background in making games. Even if I ultimately stop using godot at least it will be a good learning experience wouldn't you agree?

I agree with you. Unity is shit. Just too complicated to realize your imagination. So laggy and buggy too.
Don't blame yourself. Just pick engines more easy to do.

Unity is like the easiest engine to work in so I think the problem is (You).
