I actually got invaded twice when I replayed DeS a few months ago on my Slim. Once in Valley of Defilement and once in Shrine of Storms.
It's objectively better than the original in every aspect.
That being said, Demon's Souls is one of the worst Souls games, so it's not that good regardless.

To be fair, return to slumber in Latria INSTANTLY sets the tone when you enter, instead of the empty quiet in the original, the remake fricked up some things but latria's sad aura was nailed with that woeful humming, it also keeps you hopeful to escape as I was sometimes relaxed hearing it while stuck in that creepy area, what doesn't make sense about it though, you prefer they hide that ost and only show it in the ending??

For remasters devs could easily use stable diffusion with latest models and prompt every single texture file in a given game to be upscaled while also maintaining init image strength. That would ensure it was faithful to the original. Same could be done with audio. There is zero reason to take creative liberties when you can preserve whilst bolstering how it actually would look in greater detail. To do otherwise is merely self-insertion and an effort to topple the work of others. Has anyone tried this approach? It could most certainly be done.
I love how the Maneater's eyes scurry towards you in the pitch black darkness of the original. First time you saw that, you shat your fricking pants, you could tell those eyes were attached to something atrocious. Of course in the remake the new lighting and design of the thing completely ruin the effect. Demon's Souls was another game full of soulful touches very good to showcase Bluepoint's disregard for art, just like all the SotC dust clouds they didn't bother recreating.

I've watched footage of the soundtrack recordings, they wanted something that sounded closer to Bloodborne, and they bothered getting a full ass choir and pipe organ in some church, so they abandoned all restrain and used them both in every fricking track, atmosphere be damned. Like Gwyn's theme later, there was a reason Fake Allant's theme had only one instrument, but nah let's drown that organ in fake Latin chantings. And Phalanx, and the Dirty Colossus's and the Armored Spider's theme, frick it, just frick it. Gotta justify the cost of that studio Sony paid for!
DeS remake completely fumbled the bag the moment they made it so that players in soul form made any noise that wasn't the ephemeral wispy sound they made in the original.
Complete and total misunderstanding of the setting and the atmosphere has never been demonstrated so succinctly.
I think that was the intent, it's even toned down compared to some real ornamental armor, it looks eccentric but plausible and it was such a memorable design to see in that cover.

When I first played Demon’s Souls on PS5’s launch day, I got a perfect taste of what “next gen” was to come. I was super impressed. The PS5 showed what it could do in Demon’s Souls with its rock-solid 60fps and stellar visuals…the game ran like a dream. If games could run and look like this, “next gen” was going to be exciting times.
Fast forward almost 3 full years since…I can honestly say…besides Rift Apart and Forbidden West, there’s nothing that matches the finesse of Demon’s Souls on PS5.
I recently just reinstalled it, just to marvel at its technical achievement, and even 3 years later, the game is still super stunning. Especially on my LG OLED; the game just pops with gorgeous fidelity. It’s disappointing that, literally, only a very select few games on the 1st Party and 3rd Party side of development, have given me the polished, rock-solid experience that Demon’s Souls provided for me that first day I got my PS5.
Why can’t any other developer make the PS5 shine the way Bluepoint does? I cannot wait for their next PS5 title, because I know it will have pushed the PS5 even harder and will be another “next gen (I know it’s current gen now)” experience to behold.
It’s a shame that this generation, so far, has very little to show what this generation can do. Nothing has really pushed the gaming experience the way Demon’s Souls or Rift Apart has imo. It all seems like late-last gen type gaming experiences with just higher resolution bumps and more stable framerates at 60fps. Sure, that’s all great and dandy, but I feel like we’re still stuck in last gen’s gaming experiences almost midway through this current generation.

Like, does he expect nuGow-like attack assist to snap him towards the dreglings, is he upset at them not putting much of a fight while he spazzes and fumbles, the stamina depletion rate, at how he can't cancel animations, what was going through his head, and how did he expect people to react to the footage? I only see a button masher having a spazz-out.
Thats the beauty of it. You also notice that he is way beyond the part of the game he's dodging around with his amount of souls, his hp, his stamina, his 21 half moons. He went in to do this specifically to make this bait. Either that or he suffered head trauma mid playthrough.

Why make it look like generic leather belt with big buckle, when its already very simple design? Because thats the generic leather belt they already had.
Its just a medieval setting with some DnD inspired stuff. Theres 100 ready made assets packages for that. What there isn't, is DeS asset packages. No one made DeS specific assets, from monsters to clothing to items. Every unique asset is replaced with common assets.

60 fps are nice but definitely not integral to a slow paced game like Demon's Souls. It wasn't Artorias of the Abyss yet, didn't shit the bed as bad as Blighttown did either and in hindsight with how the series progressed the strongest thing it has is the atmosphere, it's like a Fumito Ueda game meets a 3D Zelda, and it takes its setting to places not even Bloodborne would go, with really unique music and off the wall enemy presentation. That is completely and utterly undone by the remake. Undermine that all you'd like, but some of us consider it an integral part of it, and just thowing it all away with fricking World of Warcraft moodboards and knockoff Bloodborne music kind of kills the appeal.
I'd argue the only thing that's an actual ,meaningful improvment is the load times, because Demon Souls was a bit of a clumsily programmed game, zone-wise and even when played on emulator with 60fps, they're still lengthy. The Leechmonger model is also pretty impressive, the original looks really confusing, but I'd call every other redesign a failure.

Blue point's Demon's Souls is like Amazon's the lord of the ring.
When I first played Demon’s Souls on PS5’s launch day, I got a perfect taste of what “next gen” was to come. I was super impressed. The PS5 showed what it could do in Demon’s Souls with its rock-solid 60fps and stellar visuals…the game ran like a dream. If games could run and look like this, “next gen” was going to be exciting times.
Fast forward almost 3 full years since…I can honestly say…besides Rift Apart and Forbidden West, there’s nothing that matches the finesse of Demon’s Souls on PS5.
I recently just reinstalled it, just to marvel at its technical achievement, and even 3 years later, the game is still super stunning. Especially on my LG OLED; the game just pops with gorgeous fidelity. It’s disappointing that, literally, only a very select few games on the 1st Party and 3rd Party side of development, have given me the polished, rock-solid experience that Demon’s Souls provided for me that first day I got my PS5.
Why can’t any other developer make the PS5 shine the way Bluepoint does? I cannot wait for their next PS5 title, because I know it will have pushed the PS5 even harder and will be another “next gen (I know it’s current gen now)” experience to behold.
It’s a shame that this generation, so far, has very little to show what this generation can do. Nothing has really pushed the gaming experience the way Demon’s Souls or Rift Apart has imo. It all seems like late-last gen type gaming experiences with just higher resolution bumps and more stable framerates at 60fps. Sure, that’s all great and dandy, but I feel like we’re still stuck in last gen’s gaming experiences almost midway through this current generation.

I'm confused by it. I've been in like 4 threads with that webm and I still don't know what he expected of the game playing it like that. I genuinely don't know what his intention is. Like, does he expect nuGow-like attack assist to snap him towards the dreglings, is he upset at them not putting much of a fight while he spazzes and fumbles, the stamina depletion rate, at how he can't cancel animations, what was going through his head, and how did he expect people to react to the footage? I only see a button masher having a spazz-out.
Thats the beauty of it. You also notice that he is way beyond the part of the game he's dodging around with his amount of souls, his hp, his stamina, his 21 half moons. He went in to do this specifically to make this bait. Either that or he suffered head trauma mid playthrough.
There are people on Ganker who get mad about stuff like this, you should remind yourself about this fact when you get sad to remind yourself how much better you are.

Its because they're not custom assets. Think how many new assets you would have to make to replace everything in the game. Even From didn't do that, they've been making themselves assets for years and kept reusing them in their games.
You think Bluepoint is going to make millions of unique assets for one game? No, they use pre-made asset packages. None of this is about "design choice". Look at the belt "redesign". Why make it look like generic leather belt with big buckle, when its already very simple design? Because thats the generic leather belt they already had.
Its just a medieval setting with some DnD inspired stuff. Theres 100 ready made assets packages for that. What there isn't, is DeS asset packages. No one made DeS specific assets, from monsters to clothing to items. Every unique asset is replaced with common assets.

60 fps are nice but definitely not integral to a slow paced game like Demon's Souls. It wasn't Artorias of the Abyss yet, didn't shit the bed as bad as Blighttown did either and in hindsight with how the series progressed the strongest thing it has is the atmosphere, it's like a Fumito Ueda game meets a 3D Zelda, and it takes its setting to places not even Bloodborne would go, with really unique music and off the wall enemy presentation. That is completely and utterly undone by the remake. Undermine that all you'd like, but some of us consider it an integral part of it, and just thowing it all away with fricking World of Warcraft moodboards and knockoff Bloodborne music kind of kills the appeal.
I'd argue the only thing that's an actual ,meaningful improvment is the load times, because Demon Souls was a bit of a clumsily programmed game, zone-wise and even when played on emulator with 60fps, they're still lengthy. The Leechmonger model is also pretty impressive, the original looks really confusing, but I'd call every other redesign a failure.
