You can flash him out of the sky if you want to cheat. But you might as well learn to hunt him properly. Which weapon and stage? They all fight him differently.
Sword and shield and he's high rank village quest 9 star. I have the sleep sword so i can sleep bomb him
Your SnS jump attack is quite good. You didn't say which stage, but if you lure him over to a ledge and do the double jumping slash up or off the ledge you can bring him down consistently. Block his venom dive and fireballs. His armor is fantastic in high rank so its worth it.
I'll try mounting him more. Wish me luck he hits a lot
You have to fight much, much worse versions of him later, so it's time to git gud or give up.

sleep bombing is only relevant for really specific match ups in single player and even then you need an end game set for it
I have white sharpness atm it's the best I can get. Is sharpness better than raw damage?
They're both important. Sleep ain't.
Since you're using SnS, a lot of your damage should be coming from elements. I suggest crafting an Astalos SnS, Zinogre SnS, Lagiacrus SnS or Kirin SnS: You've a plethora of choice for thiunder elements.

You ideally want all 5 elements but thunder and ice covers every base decently. Almost every monster has some weakness to thunder, and those immune like Rajang (have you fought Rajang yet?) and Zinogre are weak to Ice.
No haven't fought Rajang yet. I've been doing village quests and no hub quests yet. I'm on 9 star village
Aerial sns is busted on rathalos, you have iframe when you step and jump off from rathalos, you can be super aggressive with this
flashing classic mh rathalos isn't "cheating", it's common etiquette to avoid having a terrible time fighting one of the most dogshit unfun monsters in the franchise
It's cheating. They don't hand you flash bombs in the area (most of the time). Just learn to fight him while he's in the air unless you need plates/rubies form the shinies you get. Although at that point you also have to break the back.

not my problem, all they had to do was make rathalos fun but they insisted on making him complete ass for 15 years straight, so i'll flash him out of existence as much as i can
Look, you wouldn't know this because you're a filthy cheater, but when you finally learn to hunt Rathalos in the air it's the best feeling in the world. His wings are constantly flapping in your face, so you can with practice consistently hit them, which brings him down.

Playing Hammer on IB basically breaks any monster not Named Alatreon, Fatty and Safi.
The claw gave it the Beyblade spin and that shit trivializes the game even harder than Defender gear, Is a great game and anyone hating on it is a gay, of curse the Claw is absolutely annoying but it has waaay more positives than negatives.
How so? I soloed every monster with the hammer but I didn't notice anything remarkable about it.
Pick up any other weapon and you will understand how busted Hammer is.

Hammer in Iceborne is way worse than it was in Base World. While its clutch claw moves are fluidly built into the base moveset, it just got way outpaced damage-wise by the ranged weapons, LS, GS, DBs and FC SnS. Also, the maps in Iceborne have way less slopes than the ones in Base World, and abusing the slopes was a huge part of Hammer*s power budget in Base World. The clutch claw moves come nowhere close to offsetting these negatives.
Hammer's claw move is fun but its hardly game breaking any more than Lance's claw counter is

I just beat him somehow lol. Toppled twice and used shock bomb twice. Didn't even have to use a mega potion
